Yvette Cooper gets minced

Did anybody else see the video of Yvette Cooper in a Morrisons store handing out mince pies today?

It was hilarious because a local female resident could not resist going over and telling her what she thought of her and the Labour party.

She has just been on GB News talking about how very disappointed she has been and that she has always been a Labour voter. She told YC exactly what she thought in a very restrained way. She also said Yvette was making out she was donating mince pies but Morrisons donated them. She also ignored a homeless man who always sits outside the supermarket and did not offer him one.

This smart shopper told her exactly what she thought about the way Waspi ladies have been treated, how they keep on about a massive black hole yet they are giving more than that away to foreign countries for climate research, illegal immigrants, Ukraine, etc etc. she ended by saying she should be handing out blankets to freezing pensioners not mince pies.

She was just a 52 year old Mum but she was great!
Good on her I say.

Yes a brave target, has Farage spoken of his intentions to stop the boats, yes I know he said he will but how ?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Dec-24 19:54:17

20 people smugglers have recently been arrested and charged.

This is an ongoing situation unfortunately underreported by the press as are the forced repatriations.

The U.K. has one of the smallest legal or illegal immigration populations in than any of the larger European countries.

Iam64 Tue 24-Dec-24 20:16:29

Jeanathome, of course you are correct. Stopping people smuggling is more complicated than stop the boats
The level of anger, the absence of compassion shown by some groups on our society towards desperate humans is staggering

It seems to me that anyone with a different opinion to that of the person reading a post is classed as a Troll. I've never met Primrose but I very much doubt she is an ugly creature of giant proportions nor are her opinions inflammatory or offensive as evidenced by the number of people who agree with her, myself being one of them.

Thank you buffyfly. The offensive comment about me has now been removed.

You have to concede that 'getting minced' is somewhat goady. Yes, I know, it was meant to be 'punny'.

It was punny of course.

This is what politics is all about though - people vote for politician to represent them but not everyone agrees with the result and they're entitled to their views too.

I'm sure Yvette has tackled far worse over the years, some of it in the House of Commons. She's very experienced can hold her own.

PoliticsNerd Tue 24-Dec-24 22:13:22

People may not agree Allira but it is possible to disagree agreeably (to quote a famous podcast). Insults and sneers aren't arguments.

Though not 'sympatico' with your opinion of Labour or YC - I do think the accusations that someone is a troll are bandied around by some who don't really have a clear understanding of what one actually is and was a bit surprised to see it levelled at you.

Making a challenging post on a news and politics thread with an injection of humour hardly constitutes being a troll...

You have strong opinions on Labour and the left and are a regular poster, but, if you're a troll, then so am I because although too lazy to make an original post on N&P, I certainly don't hold back when giving an opinion on someone else's.

I'm just glad I live in a country where an elected representative can stand in a supermarket dishing out mince-pies and that the public she represents can, if they feel like it, hold her to account by calling her out. As long as that 'calling-out' doesn't involve abuse or threats, I see it as part of our right to peaceful protest.

... anyway, wishing you a peaceful (or otherwise if you've got grandchildren) and happy Christmas.
🎄🎄🎄

It might be the colour-contrast on my screen, but those mince-pies YC was holding out looked very pale - almost uncooked.

Thank you Dickens
happy Christmas and a healthy New Year to you too. 🎄🎄

‘A Conservative activist who sent messages claiming to have paid “crackheads” £100 to beat up the Labour MP Yvette Cooper and warned that “if you make peaceful revolution difficult you make a violent one inevitable” has been jailed for nine weeks.

Joshua Spencer, who received a character reference from the Conservative MP Andrea Jenkyns, attended Cooper’s general election count in December as a representative of the Conservative party despite being under investigation by West Yorkshire police after his arrest.

The unemployed 25-year-old, a constituent of Cooper’s, was arrested in April last year and stood for the Conservatives in May’s local elections.

Spencer pleaded guilty in January to sending malicious messages about Cooper, a former work and pensions secretary who has been MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford since 1997.

On Friday he was sentenced to nine weeks in prison and given a restraining order preventing him from contacting Cooper or her former office manager, Jade Boterill, for 10 years.

The Tories said “we extend our sympathies” to Cooper and said Spencer has now been expelled from the party.’
Just one example of threats that Yvette has received. In another article someone who worked for her said she received 40/50 death threats a week. So I don’t find the fact that she was verbally abused in a supermarket amusing…

Can't remember you being all huffy when Farage was assaulted.
Verbally abused, you mean someone gave her a piece of her mind. Still it wasn't a milk shake was it.

MayBee70 Tue 24-Dec-24 23:33:40

Really? Do you keep a record of everything I post on the forum, then?

Wyllow3 Wed 25-Dec-24 00:33:48

MayBee has a point.

" In another article someone who worked for her said she received 40/50 death threats a week. So I don’t find the fact that she was verbally abused in a supermarket amusing…"

Another women might think twice before cheap aggressive stunts.

MayBee70 Wed 25-Dec-24 01:48:26

I think women MP’s are far more vulnerable than male MP’s. Ann’s Soubry said she always stood with her back to a wall on station platforms for fear of someone pushing her under a train. Jess Phillips has spoken about how she has had to secure her house. And I’m sure that Yvettes daughters have spoken about how they worry for her safety. And we must never forget what happened to Jo Cox sad.

BevSec Wed 25-Dec-24 09:00:39

Grunty

^Well done for starting a very goady thread.^

It's only goady because it doesn't align with your political persuasion. If it had been about Boris or Farage no doubt you'd have found it "topical".

👏👏👏👏👏

Anniebach Wed 25-Dec-24 09:05:58

Agree Wyllow a cheap aggressive stunt

Wyllow3 Wed 25-Dec-24 09:13:23

I don't agree. Threads that start with a deliberate attempt to annoy and provoke always end up "like with like", and thats across the board politically.

petra Wed 25-Dec-24 09:40:57

Do any of you numpties who think it’s a simple process to stop the boats read any articles with words of more than two syllables.
I appreciate some might find it difficult but is worth persevering, you might learn something.

Anniebach Wed 25-Dec-24 09:48:52

Farage will stop the boats and definitely within 7 days , his fans criticised the Labour government for not doing so in a month,
how he will stop them is a mystery

Wyllow3 Wed 25-Dec-24 10:01:39

I don't think that any GN's are numpties at all, but I do notice that there is always evasion when those who support Reform quote"we will turn back the boats", no one tries to explain how it will be don..

This is what Reform have specifically said, and why it is not possible

Anniebach Wed 25-Dec-24 10:12:12

Thank you Wyllow , I. have asked how it will be carried out ,
now I know, it can’t be done the Farage way

Ilovecheese Wed 25-Dec-24 10:20:06

To be fair to Yvette Cooper and Starmer's Government, I think they are being as nasty as they can be towards people seeking asylum here. Deportations have increased and they are also promising to "stop the boats" .

JaneJudge Wed 25-Dec-24 10:22:10

Merry Christmas Yyvette smile isn;t it punishment enough that she has to live with Ed Balls?*

*that's a joke btw wink

When someone suggests that Evette Cooper takes herself off to Dover to stop the boats I’m afraid there is no other polite word.
Other than transforming herself into Canute and trying to turn back the tide ( although the tides are low at the moment) I can’t see any other way 🤷‍♀️

Mollygo Wed 25-Dec-24 10:27:31

How rude, but not unexpected.

No one thinks it’s an easy job to stop the boats, not even your designated numpties.

But Labour have said they will do it.

That’s their SMART target.

Specific: -stop the illegal smuggling of refugees
Measurable:
Zero boatloads will arrive in the UK or be sent by illegal people smugglers

Achievable: the LP have said it is their target, so presumably they think it is.

Relevant: to what is going on at the moment, both for the UK and the refugees

Time-Bound -presumably within their term of office.

We will all be watching keenly, to see if there’s something to learn.
