SKY news is reporting that Carry Johnson is in hospital with flu and pneumonia.

I wish her a speedy recovery, and that she is back home with her young children soon.

I believe she is back home now having spent a week in hospital

Crikey, a week in hospital! She must have been poorly.

Babs03 Sat 11-Jan-25 19:05:29

There seems to be a dreadful strain of the flu about right now.
A few people I know have had it and one ended up in hospital like Carrie. We had the jab but people who have had the jab have reportedly got it really badly.
This cold weather with people staying indoors will only have made things worse I'm afraid.

Poor Carrie, hope she’s on the mend now.

Anniebach Sat 11-Jan-25 19:12:41

Hope she will make a good recovery

Casdon Sat 11-Jan-25 19:24:06

Goodness, she is young to be so poorly with that, hope she recovers soon. It shows how serious the viruses going round this winter can be.

Jaxjacky Sat 11-Jan-25 19:55:44

She’s said she regrets not having the jab.

It seems to be a nasty flu bug this year that's affecting many. The hospitals are struggling with an influx of flu victims.
Hope Carrie feels better very soon.

Yes, she was silly not not have it.

Farzanah Sat 11-Jan-25 20:31:26

Why would she have been eligible?

Why would she have been eligible?

You can pay for it at most pharmacies if you are not in the cohort for a free one.

welbeck Sat 11-Jan-25 20:41:05

I was wondering who this was.
I guessed it was someone from tv. Which I don't watch.
Think I've worked it out now.

Farzanah Sat 11-Jan-25 20:42:48

Yes of course GG. I dare say they can afford it.

Louella12 Sat 11-Jan-25 20:46:44

I ended up in hospital for a week with pneumonia. I was 27. Awful experience!

Allira Sat 11-Jan-25 20:51:37

Wilfred has probably started school now and children bring all kinds of bugs and viruses home with them.

As well as that, there seem to be a lot of nasty viruses around this winter as well as 'flu.

Allira Sat 11-Jan-25 20:56:03

I hope Carrie is recovering well; it seems as if it was nasty and sounds quite frightening, especially in a younger person.

Babs03 Sat 11-Jan-25 21:00:43

We get all sorts off our GCs, they are nursery age and rarely come home without a snotty nose and cough.
Haven't had the flu yet, got it last year, first time in years, and would not want that again.

Doesn’t seem to have made much difference whether you had it or not. I read that this year’s jab was not very effective.

Yes, I heard that too.

Carrie is reported as saying the NHS staff are wonderful.
I wonder if that means she was treated by the NHS and not privately.
In any case I wish her well and a speedy recovery.

Private hospitals don’t deal with medical emergencies of that kind, you would always be admitted under the NHS.

Flu vaccines are by necessity from the most recent strains - last year’s, to have time to make millions of doses. Therefore, if the virus has mutated, even slightly, the vaccine may not be as effective.
Sounds like this is the case.

Georgesgran Sat 11-Jan-25 21:59:54

DDs and SinLs have always paid privately for the jab, as they aren’t eligible for the free NHS ones. Better safe than sorry, even if this years isn’t as effective as previous years.
