It quite clearly was a Nazi salute. I said it to my partner as soon as he did it. My partner agreed. He also looked very manic.
The evidence is looking everyone in the eyes, seems some people don't want to see it.

Musk’s salute.
(248 Posts)I found this very disturbing, especially the look on his face with the first one.

True. Silly is definitely not the word to be used here.

Yep. Looks just the same
Thanks for this. And yes, the nazi salute does include a hand to heart gesture first. So exactly the same.
OMG that post has disappeared- and the link is now scambled? Now THAT is scary.
Could GN please explain what is going on?

From the article Wyllow3 posted:
"On top of that, Musk also recently signaled further support for the far-right when he changed his X username to “Kekius Maximus” and updated his profile to an edited picture of “Pepe the Frog,” a meme that had been co-opted by the alt-right and white supremacists in online spaces such as 4chan. And just a week ago, Musk — who has relentlessly promoted imprisoned far-right extremist Tommy Robinson while injecting himself into British politics — criticized the prison sentencing of a neo-Nazi who helped incited riots in the UK."
When someone tells you who they are, believe them.
Quite right. He makes who he is quite plain. Ignoring that can not be acceptable , either across the pond or here
No, the 2 photos posted by bmacca where one of Musk and his salute, and another of H*tl*r and his - and they are absolutely identical.
If this gesture was done in Germany or Austria- it would land anyone doing it in person. But if you don't believe it was a nazi salute- why not go out there and test it for yourself- stand in a busy place, hospital, school, supermarket, etc- and just test it and see the reaction.

I didn’t click to check it, but Hitler doing the Nazi salute is a banned image on many social media sites, so it was probably that.

You’re right. I just listened to an interview where it was said if he had done that in Germany yesterday he would have been arrested immediately.
sorry for autocheck- in prison, not in person.

That link gives a bit more footage, and it's crystal clear. Quite unhinged.

He put his hand on his heart and then shot out his arm to the right. It was not a nazi salute.. I think he was symbolising the future in his rather odd robotic manner..
Correct. After touching his heart he then swept his arm out to the audience which I took to mean he was sharing his love with them or saying “back to you”.
Oh yes, he sure had an expression of ‘love’ on his face didn’t he Primrose???

I sort of agree Dickens, but it was bizarre.
I think he is not neurotypical, but obviously am diagnosing a stranger on the internet which is not acceptable!Oh, I'm quite prepared to accept I'm wrong - as I said, it was a "gut reaction".
If he really is reviving the Nazi salute - deliberately - then he's been watched by millions and it will be interesting and necessary to follow their reactions.
Perhaps he's emboldened by the current fiasco of Trump 'fever' and believes in a 'new dawn' of Politics?
I just don't know. When I looked at the footage, I also thought he looked rather silly - like a teenager high on adrenalin or intoxicated.
I still think he's going to 'come a cropper' at some point, if for example, he appears to be outshining Trump, or, in his unpredictability, steps too far. His behaviour is apparently sometimes bizarre, and I think he's a bit emotionally unstable, but that's purely my subjective view.Dickens.. Musk has said himself that he has Aspergers Syndrome a form of Autism
Aspergers is no longer a recognised diagnosis from what I have read. Maybe it is different in the USA but again I believe the DSM 5 is used in the USA so maybe he should say he is on the Autistic Spectrum.
It is an 'old' term, it was once described as high functioning autism but people are wanting to move away from that term as well.
Am no fan of Elon Musk, a very odd character with too much power, but even I as a Jewish woman do not think it was a nazi salute.I would soon say so if I did, and I’ve watched the footage a few times.
If you want it to be a nazi salute as you dislike him, that’s another matter.

I tend to agree Oreo.
My half brother, who is also Jewish (and dislikes Musk intensely) said he thought it was a gesture them stemmed from his sense of his own power, but he did not believe it was a deliberate Nazi salute. In spite of Musk's links to the alt / ultra Right.
But I don't think anyone's going to be persuaded to change their view. Unfortunately, it does closely resemble that infamous gesture.
In a way, it's a good thing - because the eyes of the world will now be watching him more closely and probably be more wary of his pronouncements.

Where were the audience sitting because unless they were on a balcony he wasn't stretching his arm out to the audience.
Can I also say as a Christian woman whose childhood was affected by what my father experienced fighting Nazis I think it was a salute not a gesture to the audience, the look on his face said it all.

We will all def be watching him, my own feeling is that Trump will keep him close but use him and his great wealth and SM power as a bolster while trying to keep a lid on the human powder keg that Musk is.
There is something about this person that has always given me the heebeejeebies. We were really shocked by that gesture.
And so where most of us. I have seen dozens of photos since showing that many na*is, including top man, doing exactly the same gesture, heart first then either to the front or to the side.
Musk's grandparents were in the Nazi Party, and moved to South Africa when the Apartheid regime came to power in 1948- to support the new Apartheid values of segregation and racial superiority. The Nazi salute was often used by the Apartheid regime, at all levels. So it is just nonsense to say that Musk was not aware of its very specific significance.
Hitler-like salute!
I agree. He was excited about Mars. It was - To Infinity and Beyond!

Will he be piloting this craft?
Captain Musk, to go where no man has gone before!
