Are these really the words of a sane man!

“America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on Earth, inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world,”

Be afraid, be very afraid!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 21-Jan-25 13:24:01

Your opinion counts Rhinestone of course (more than my opinion) as you live in America. That said you are at odds with the majority of those who did vote. That’s democracy for you.

With regard The release of the Jan 6th criminals is disgusting sending a clear message that it’s okay to commit crimes against our institutions is rich considering Biden, in his last few hours pardoned five members of his own FAMILY.

That stinks, does it not?

America has long been under the illusion that it rules the world. One of the reasons why British people should stop copying them. They set a poor example!
However, at present, we need Trump. We need an end to all this Liberalism and Globalism.
Trump intends to put America first....and we need to start putting Britain first!

What a dangerous statement !
Can I point out that one of the first acts that Trump signed in was to take away affordable medicine and healthcare ? Yup signed yesterday . I know people on fixed incomes that this will adversely affect . So it’s not just his creepy threats to other nations this is what he actually signed yesterday as one of his first acts !!!

If Panama hadn’t relied so heavily on America to build the canal, there might be some argument to say that China shouldn’t be given preferential shipping rates. As it is, America could be thought to be protecting its own interests. I think we should hold off judgement until we have a fuller understanding.

China has no profit in the Panama Canal that’s misinformation .

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 21-Jan-25 13:55:26

Yvette dissembling when she speaks about what they are going to do - the Inquiry.

What she does not want to address is the matter of what the government did and did not do at the time of the incident so this shoves it nicely over the horizon.

She’s canny.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 21-Jan-25 13:55:47

Sorry. Wrong thread!

Syracute Tue 21-Jan-25 13:59:38

No , we don’t NEED Trump !
As I have already mentioned one of the first acts he signed was to take away affordable medicine and affordable health care . He is devious and evil . So under the cloak of dangerous international sabre rattling he is undermining those Americans that need health care the most .

pascal30 Tue 21-Jan-25 14:01:01

No sign of dementia though.. I don't think many people could make a speech of that length without notes..

I was amused to see Bill Clinton's mouth fall open at some of Trumps speech..

China has given Panama most preferential status which means Panamanian registered ships get preferential treatment in Chinese ports, and Chinese registered vessels get preferential treatment in Panama.

(The above is readily verified if you care to look at any number of sites online.)

ronib Tue 21-Jan-25 14:43:32

So how might a slightly weakened China play out in the current world stage?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 21-Jan-25 14:47:10

In one GG13 that’s what Trump said about the Panama Canal.

Casdon Tue 21-Jan-25 15:17:53

The Panama Canal cuts through the centre of Panama, it doesn’t border any other countries, it is an integral part of Panama, and its use is controlled by Panama. USA can negotiate a deal directly with Panama. What purpose does it serve before even attempting to do that to be so aggressive towards another sovereign country, and p off China too?

winterwhite Tue 21-Jan-25 15:32:05

'Reclaim' and 'rightful' are the words that worry me. And it wasn't a speech but a repetitive rant. He can carry on in that vein for hours.

Casdon Tue 21-Jan-25 15:53:22

Fact check, which is illuminating, from CNN. There is a section on the Panama Canal.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 21-Jan-25 16:37:46

I can’t remember the details but Trump did say that Panama weren’t abiding to the terms of a signed Treaty.

I’m sure he’ll work something out that’s more advantageous to American when he’s in negotiations.

I'm knocking on a bit. We once got burgled, it wasn't nice. But nobody has robbed me.

THIS WAS ON A FRIEND’S PAGE: An anguished question from a Trump supporter: ‘Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?’

THE SERIOUS ANSWER: Here’s what the majority of anti-Trump voters honestly feel about Trump supporters en masse:

That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine." (https://www.usatoday.com/.../trump-university.../502387002/)

That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay." (https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-hotel-paid-millions...)

That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem." (https://abcnews.go.com/.../list-trumps-accusers.../story...)

That when he made up stories about seeing Muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/.../donald-trumps.../)

That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you exclaimed, "He sure knows me." (https://www.usatoday.com/.../president-donald.../4073405002/)

That when you heard him relating a story of an elderly guest of his country club, an 80-year old man, who fell off a stage and hit his head, to Trump replied: “‘Oh my God, that’s disgusting,’ and I turned away. I couldn’t—you know, he was right in front of me, and I turned away. I didn’t want to touch him. He was bleeding all over the place. And I felt terrible, because it was a beautiful white marble floor, and now it had changed color. Became very red.” You said, "That's cool!" (https://www.gq.com/story/donald-trump-howard-stern-story)

That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw. (https://www.nbcnews.com/.../donald-trump-criticized-after...)

That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?" (https://www.theatlantic.com/.../americas-first.../549794/)

That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense." (https://www.usatoday.com/.../what-trump-has.../1501321001/)

That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!" (https://www.latimes.com/.../la-na-trump-campaign-protests..

That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!" (https://www.independent.co.uk/.../donald-trump-orders...)

That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!" (https://www.theatlantic.com/.../why-cant-trump.../567320/)

That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be." (https://www.huffpost.com/.../trump-insult-foreign...)

That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they're supposed to be regulating and you have said, "What a genius!" (https://www.politico.com/.../138-trump-policy-changes...)

That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, "That's smart!" (https://www.usnews.com/.../how-is-donald-trump-profiting...)

That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was in the middle of water and you have said, "That makes sense." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/.../the-very-big-ocean.../)

That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, "falling in love" with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, "That's statesmanship!" (https://www.cnn.com/.../donald-trump-dictators.../index.html)

That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids, has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that they’re just “animals” - and you say, “Well, OK then.” (https://www.nbcnews.com/.../more-5-400-children-split...)

That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise. (https://www.americanprogress.org/.../confronting-cost.../)

What you don't get, Trump supporters, is that our succumbing to frustration and shaking our heads, thinking of you as stupid, may very well be wrong and unhelpful, but it's also...hear me...charitable.

Because if you're NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering.

Why oh why do you so often quote from friends?
Presumably you have opinions of your own and frankly I CBA with the views of “dear friends”, “young friends” or even “friends”
Third hand opinions carry no validation IMO whatsoever. .

Well, a lot of research and time has been taken to produce the post above. Why would I take even more time, having checked it carefully, to re-write it in other/my words. That would be nonsense. I copied the whole post, including the intro- nothing about a friend of mine, as such.

Claremont Tue 21-Jan-25 20:47:54

Why shouldn't they if they express exactly the same views as one's own? I don't get your point.

Copied from SM somewhere.

At the risk of opening myself up to criticism, it is YOUR opinions which count in a discussion - not the third hand quoted views of others - and at such length too.

It’s called democracy Claremont and DT this time again won the US election.
I don’t like him, you don’t like him but that doesn’t matter, he’s the President now and name calling his supporters achieves nothing and just sounds childish.
