My goodness the statement from the Murdoch is extraordinarily damning.

I wonder what it is that they are keen that we don’t hear at a trial.

Ilovecheese Wed 22-Jan-25 11:09:22

I understand what you are saying whitewavemark2 but I do fear that the result will be a lot of vicious and unpleasant posts about Prince Harry, with no understanding of what a good thing he and Tom Watson are trying to do.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:15:30

Well ignore the words Prince Harry and give thought to what Murdoch’s paper were doing to doing.

All illegal - including surveillance, phone hacking, misuse of private information lying, damaging relationships .

ViceVersa Wed 22-Jan-25 11:17:02

I agree. We should focus on that - because it affects far more than just Harry. However, I suspect, as is always the way on GN, that this thread will inevitably become an excuse for more Harry and Meghan bashing by all the usual suspects.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:17:04

Don’t forget all the hundreds of people harmed by Murdoch whose names we shall never know.

Harry had the heft to bring Murdoch to account.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:20:25

The police need to pursue the perjury and criminal activity.

Iam64 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:41:37

Yes, well done Prince Harry. The statement from his barrister confirmed how this man has been subjected to intrusion, lies, misrepresentation for years.
Well don’t Tom Watson
Badly done murdoch press

eazybee Wed 22-Jan-25 11:48:59

What I devoutly wish is that Harry takes the damages (after the lawyers have had their slice) and uses it to buy a stud farm and breed polo ponies or whatever makes him happy wherever that may be, and does something useful with his life at last.
And Shuts Up.

Iam64 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:50:51

Harry gets so much criticism for everything and anything he does. The lack of empathy is stunning.
He’s been vindicated. Good

Ilovecheese Wed 22-Jan-25 11:51:13

Well that didn't take long

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:51:24

The police could start with perverting the course of justice. That carries quite a stiff sentence. Thousands of E-mails/pieces of evidence were destroyed by Murdoch.

Ilovecheese Wed 22-Jan-25 11:51:55

Sorry, post was meant to follow eazybee

Tip

IGNORE THE NAY-SAYERS .

Murdoch has been found guilty!

Now let’s see what happens to The Daily Mail. Early days, but it will take its course.

Cossy Wed 22-Jan-25 11:58:25

I too salute Harry. He is doing what many either fear doing, or cannot afford.

If the press do something illegal then they should be held accountable.

AGAA4 Wed 22-Jan-25 11:58:52

I am glad Murdoch has been found guilty and well done to those who brought this about.

MaizieD Wed 22-Jan-25 12:07:23

Now let’s see what happens to The Daily Mail. Early days, but it will take its course.

Is there something in the pipeline for the Daily Mail? It's not a Murdoch paper, of course, it's Rothermere's.

Can Murdoch wriggle out of this?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Jan-25 12:25:00

No - you need to listen to Murdoch’s statement .

It absolutely admits guilt and has paid a substantial amount to keep it out of court.

I reckon the level of payment reflects the level if misdeed.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Jan-25 12:25:27

Oh and yes! The case is active regarding the DM

Breaking
NGN offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the serious intrusion by The Sun between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including incidents of unlawful activities carried out by private investigators working for The Sun.

NGN also offers a full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by journalists and private investigators instructed by them at the News of the World.

NGN further apologises to the Duke for the impact on him of the extensive coverage and serious intrusion into his private life as well as the private life of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, in particular during his younger years.

We acknowledge and apologise for the distress caused to the Duke, and the damage inflicted on relationships, friendships and family, and have agreed to pay him substantial damages. It is also acknowledged, without any admission of illegality, that NGN's response to the 2006 arrests and subsequent actions were regrettable.

NGN also offers a full and unequivocal apology to Lord Watson for the unwarranted intrusion carried out into his private life during his time in Government by the News of the World during the period 2009- 2011.

This includes him being placed under surveillance in 2009 by journalists at the News of the World and those instructed by them. NGN also acknowledges and apologises for the adverse impact this had on Lord Watson's family and has agreed to pay him substantial damages.

In addition, in 2011 News International received information that information was being passed covertly to Lord Watson from within News International. We now understand that this information was false, and Lord Watson was not in receipt of any such confidential information. NGN apologises fully and unequivocally for this.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Jan-25 12:32:07

The bloody annoying thing is that I very much doubt that criminal charges will be brought - as they should have been done when it all first blew up. - remember Rebecca Brooks?.

It will be considered not sensible what with so much the police need to concentrate on now. Knife crime etc. although tbh I would have thought that was a different branch?

Lathyrus3 Wed 22-Jan-25 12:32:28

Not quite what they were originally looking for though.

The statement’s mostly about News of the World which is already defunct.

It only admitted private investigators had done anything n regard to The Sun.

I guess that bit of the lawsuit couldn’t be proved. Will each party bear their own costs now?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 22-Jan-25 12:34:38

A figure of $787million is being talked about.

That is quite a lot of guilt.

Parsley3 Wed 22-Jan-25 12:56:20

It is indeed. Also full and unequivocal apologies to both men leaves no margin for doubt.

escaped Wed 22-Jan-25 13:34:11

Well done to the lawyers. They must have worked their socks off on that one.

Where did you get that figure from? The reports I’ve seen say between 10 and 20million.
