Ok, so all of you who think we need a Trump here.... what is it that appeals?

I have been alarmed by the number of GN members who seem to seriously be calling for Trump like political leaders in the UK. Leaving aside his racism, bankruptcies, misogyny, sexual assaults, and my 'favourite', mocking a disabled reporter.....which of these executive orders do you find an attractive prospect;

Cancelling the price bar on insulin, was $35 per month, now forecast to be $1500 per month

Cancelling state funding of cancer research

KKK members in the South, roaming the streets, handing out 'go home' leaflets ( I understand this may be appealing to some)

Pardoning criminals who assaulted Police Officers

So, which of these appeals to you?

Please read this report from The Independent. We need to know that this is happening

imaround I’m beginning to feel like I’m in a dystopian novel, and I’m thousands of miles away from it all - so God knows how you must be feelingflowers

These threads, & many of the posts on them, are just goady, pure & simple.
So childish.
And they wonder why no one wants to play their silly games.

Silly games- goady! So we a criminal, supported by more criminals, and the KKK, has been elected. He and they are putting the whole world at risk, but we are not allowed to ask any question? Talk about free speech here! So some you approve of the KKK threatening people with violence, or so called Patriots attacking elected Senators and attacking and injuring police on duty. These are not silly games, they are dangerous, VERY dangerous.

And then some refuse to see the similarities with 1933.

I truly want to know what people admire in Trump- as I cannot see it.

Where is anyone at all approving of the KKK threatening people with violence?
I think you should calm down and not accuse fellow GN members of things they have never said.
I have no time for DT at all but for those who do and don’t wish to be faced with being given the third degree I don’t blame them one bit.

Well, this comes pretty close no, from Mumof3

Trump made clear his intentions, so the illegals have had plenty of warning....and now that warning is being repeated.
People have to learn that they can't just go and live in any country they please. They need to go through the proper procedures. If they are refused, they must accept it.

Oreo Fri 24-Jan-25 22:28:24

No, the point they may wish to make is that they won’t go along with a goady thread, calling it flouncing is just insulting and trivialising them for the sake of it.
I guess I don’t like unfairness in general and am seeing a lot of it on here.
Posters being hooked in to a thread to be roasted and everyone knows it.
Why not concentrate on what DT does, he’s the main event, not other forum members, or is that too much to ask I wonder.

Claremont Fri 24-Jan-25 22:29:44

Oreo

We know that DT is doing some wrong and quite vengeful and worrying things, so any dismay and dislike should be reserved for him and not other forum members IMO.

If GN members approve and support what he is doing, why should others not be dismayed and indicate dislike of their approval?

imaround Fri 24-Jan-25 22:30:43

He is also rounding up people who are here legally. Refugees.

Oreo Fri 24-Jan-25 22:31:07

No!
Mumof3 is only saying pretty much what Starmer says about illegal immigration.
She doesn’t approve of the KKK at all.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 24-Jan-25 22:32:31

Claremont I have just sussed who you were previously. You have yet another new name!

You recently called me out - which I didn’t mind - and I explained my change of user name was because of admin problems and not only wasn’t it a secret I had explained openly on different threads why I had changed and who I used to be.

Your turn now!

Kate1949 Fri 24-Jan-25 22:39:50

Oh no I'm not questioning you imaround, I'm just gobsmacked by how quickly this is happening.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 24-Jan-25 22:41:01

This must be like a dystopian nightmare to US citizens.

I’d be frightened to death to tell anyone I was pregnant in case I miscarried.

I’d be frightened to death that my children would be witness to their friends being dragged from the classroom and taken goodness knows where.

This is becoming a nightmare without end.

I haven’t goaded anybody Oreo. Flouncing is the right word though for somebody who announces they are leaving or not participating in a thread, whatever it’s about - why bother to do that if you don’t want to be noticed? Anyway, we’ll have to agree to disagree on this issue, and as you say, get back to the point.

Oreo Fri 24-Jan-25 22:45:43

I think all US States have different rules and regs and sadly some already it has to be said, even under the Biden presidency, chosen to be totally prolife with no abortions allowed.More States may follow suit, particularly in the South and the Bible Belt.
The US is nothing like the UK on these matters.

People need to learn that they can't just go and live in any country they please.

Even elementary knowledge of American history will tell you that that is precisely what the European settlers did. They killed and dispossessed large numbers of Native Americans in the process.

Well nobody can do that now!

American people are not British people or Australians for that matter. Trump would never be elected in either country. I can quite see why he was the ‘chosen one’ looking at the Democrats and I hope it works out as the majority would wish without too many casualties en route. He doesn’t like wars so at least there is that and I do think he is much better at foreign policy issues than any of the Dems who were pretty aggressive and pretty useless that way. As for Starmer, he is disgraceful and I can see why people make comments about preferring Trump ( I personally don’t agree with that, mainly because of the gun policies and his targeting Mexicans and minorities). The whole post is goady and aggressive, and I think flouncing ( another piece of aggressive commentary) is quite in order.

Here is the honest truth about living in the US right now, from my singular perspective.

I am lucky, we are white and live in a blue state. But I have a daughter and a LGBTQ son. (I havent even broached this topic because it is so volatile on GN. But we are scared for his safety in the future) We are keeping a low profile right now.

I am about to pull money out of savings to majorly stock up on food. We already have shortages of eggs, chicken and beef are getting harder to find and more expensive. Now that crops are rotting in fields, we are on a countdown to our grocery stores being bare. Luckily I garden and start my seeds inside each year. I will have some vegetables this summer.

I have begged my daughter to get an IUD that will last through Trumps term.

I am thankful, for the first time in my life, that we have a second amendment.

I never in a million lifetimes would have thought this is where we would be.

Kate1949 Fri 24-Jan-25 23:06:08

That must be very difficult for you imaround. I wish you well.

Allira Fri 24-Jan-25 23:10:23

I would again direct you to actually watching and listening to Reform's Conferences and also to President Donald Trump's Inauguration Speech and you will then see that everything they are about and their values are what the majority of decent people share. There is nothing else to be said, it's all there, how the extreme left are ruining both America and the UK with their woke idealogy and anti-democratic ideas. Obviously you haven't bothered to find out and see just what a nice person Nigel Farage is. Again, your comments against us on here who support decent values are inflammatory, always trying to have a go at us under different headings. I am not going to waste any more time on your comments. There is nothing else to be said - get yourselves educated!

You still haven't explained what the values are that the majority of decent people share.
us on here who support decent values
There is nothing else to be said

Well, I think there is more to be said because, before we can evaluate what you have said, we need to know exactly what these values are and why they are decent.

An explanation would be helpful.
Thank you in anticipation.

Allira Fri 24-Jan-25 23:14:13

Now that crops are rotting in fields
Can I ask, politely, why crops are rotting already? Trump has only been in office a week.
They may in future, of course.

I know this happened last time Trump was in office but so soon? Or is this scaremongering to frighten you?

I'm asking from a practical point of view.

The USA needs to get to grips with this.

75% of the migrants farm workers havent shown up to the farms due to ICE in the area.

This part of California produces 25% of the produce for the US.

newrepublic.com/post/190555/donald-trump-immigration-deportations-farm-workers

A non profit in Milwaukee has notified the people that get their free produce boxes that they are unable to get produce from the farm in Texas because no one is picking the food.

It has already started unfortunately. We will have about 2 weeks, in my opinion, until we start feeling the full effect of it.

LizzieDrip Fri 24-Jan-25 23:22:26

imaround my thoughts are with you - what a nightmare!

Please keep posting so that we in the UK are aware of what’s really happening. There’s so much crap misinformation on social media, and some people here are falling for it, believing that Trump is great🙈

I hope your son & daughter stay safe; your son deserves the right to be who he is, and to be proud of that. No judgement from me, I can assure you. Take no notice of small-minded bigots!

Take careflowers

Most of the kinds of produce grown in January in California should be ok if this witch hunt stops in the next couple of weeks.

Well, perhaps just someone might realise how utterly stupid this is or else the crops will rot.

imaround Fri 24-Jan-25 23:58:24

I certainly hope that this stops and our food sources continue to send food to our stores.

I am not going to wait and see though. Worst case scenario I have a good stock of food.
