I would highly recommend todays “The Rest is Politics” 29/01/25. Podcast

Warning it is grim and chilling

He is creating a Sovereign Wealth Fund so the US can buy Tik Tok. hmm

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-Feb-25 19:49:05

Where is the money coming from?

imaround Mon 03-Feb-25 19:56:54

The Democrats are finally showing up. They will stall confirmation of nominees.

The courts are catching up. There are many lawsuits over the executive orders and a restraining order has been filed in the case of federal funds. So far, though, Trumps team have ignored it.

The good news is the government is only funded through March 15th. IMO, let's shut this shit down (Trump already has anyhow). We all need to stop giving in to him. Let's force the fall and rebuild. Stringing this along for 4 years won't be good for anyone.

imaround Mon 03-Feb-25 19:57:29

Federal Treasury.

Doesn't that sound like a good idea? confused

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-Feb-25 20:19:50

So is Tik Tok going to belong to the government?

Bit socialist isn’t it?

foxie48 Mon 03-Feb-25 20:47:37

So TikToc that helped Trump win the election is going to be bought with a Sovereign wealth fund. Honestly, you couldn't make it up!

Many here feel the same about Starmer here imaround!

imaround Mon 03-Feb-25 20:56:39

I think a bit less socialist and more fascist IMO.

I can't imagine a Trump/Musk led state news.

Claremont Mon 03-Feb-25 20:59:37

We won, get over it smile

so your version of democracy is that 4 years is too long for a properly elected PM. But over 8 years for a disastrous Referendum is totally fine.

And that minor loss of Sovereignty, but with democratically elected representatives and full representation in decision making, is just awful. But totally fine to give up 100% Sovereignty without representation or influence in decision making, to Trump's USA, is totally fine. Bizarre.

FGT give it a rest!

Allira Mon 03-Feb-25 21:02:15

LizzieDrip

FGT give it a rest!

Why?

We could say that to some other posters too but wouldn't be so rude.

LizzieDrip Mon 03-Feb-25 21:05:31

Funny that it’s ‘rude’ when I say ‘give it a rest’ … but just expressing ‘exasperated opinion’ when FGT says it🤷‍♀️

imaround Mon 03-Feb-25 21:06:26

His DOJ has said today that they do not have to comply with the court order on federal funding. It is completely lawless right now.

There are reports that D of Homeland Security has blocked the building that Musk is in so no outsiders can get in. The people Musk has installed are sleeping inside the building.

Employees and private citizens have been trying to blockade federal buildings to keep Musks people out.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 03-Feb-25 21:09:44

I think it’s best if I just totally ignore you from now on LizzieDrip. You are always gunning for me so for my well being I shan’t engage with you going forward.

Federal Treasury is fine, that is where the money comes from, after all. But who is going to be in charge of it?

Who is going to be in charge of the computers that do the book keeping and top up bank's reserves? Are Musk and his happy hackers going to take control of the Federal Treasury?

5pm out time tonight:

Vance mocks critics of tariffs after concessions from Mexico
JD Vance, the US vice president, has criticised sceptics of Donald Trump’s trade policies.

He wrote on X: “For three days a lot of the far left has actively rooted against America and argued we’d get nothing out of President Trunp’s demands that Mexico secure its country.”

Referring to the concessions won from Mexico this afternoon, he added: “Well, how do you like them apples?

imaround Mon 03-Feb-25 21:36:04

Musk already has control of the federal Treasury. He is the one who has shut down payments nationwide.

But no one knows yet how it will be ran because it is illegal and unconstitutional for Trump to do what he is doing. I am fairly sure they won't be telling anyone how it is ran.

A masterclass in how to win friends and influence people. His mouth precedes his brain.

And?

imaround Mon 03-Feb-25 21:44:14

The only "concession" he got from Mexico was for them to send more troops to the border. Something Biden did in 2022 without the treat of a tariff war. The President of Mexico asked Trump last week to have a conversation and she got tariffs instead. He used force to do something Mexico was willing to do in the first place.

Not sure I would be crowing to loudly about it if I were Vance, but I can see where Trump fans would think it was a Trump win.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 03-Feb-25 22:00:54

Trump delays tariffs on Canada after talking with Trudeau.

imaround Mon 03-Feb-25 22:11:13

I figured he would back down.

imaround Mon 03-Feb-25 22:15:05

All Canada had to do is appoint a Fentynal czar and follow through with the already planned $900 million border bill announced in December.

So all this global discord just to get more troops and a czar.

So much winning. 🙄
