Still told to 'get over it, it's done.

And yet only 11 - yes, ELEVEN percent, believe it was a success. And only 24% of Reform. That is just staggering, but not surprising.

Why on earth should we 'get over it'?

I wonder what the ages of those taking part in the poll? If 18 to 25 then they were too young to vote at the time.

Casdon Mon 03-Feb-25 13:13:25

No, fewer than one in ten respondents was aged 24 or under.

Article in yesterday’s Times about how Brexit is affecting smaller companies that used to rely on exports to the EU. But hey ho, why should we care about the ongoing problems that Brexit is causing if it doesn’t affect us personally #theelephantintheroom I may actually rejoin the LibDems because they’re the only party with the guts to tell it like it is and aren’t pandering to Reform. Until Trump was re elected I had decided to move on from the referendum but I now feel as strongly as ever that we have to be part of a large trading bloc.

Your point being? One more reason for giving them the democratic right to say so and want to do something about it, no? After all, they are the ones who are truly paying the price now, for a decision made by a small minority, mainly of their grand-parents generation. My grandchildren are always telling me how proud they are that we didn't.

Kandinsky Mon 03-Feb-25 15:16:01

But Claremont - by your reasoning we’d have to hold a referendum every 10 to 15
years?
because each new generation needs ‘to have their say’ right?
It’s ridiculous.

Kandinsky Mon 03-Feb-25 15:18:17

Who’s going to pay for that!

Barleyfields Mon 03-Feb-25 15:25:23

Surely you are not ‘always’ talking about Brexit with your grandchildren (or anyone else) after all these years Claremont?

Not at all ridiculous. When a decision has been clearly proven to have been based on lies, without any plans, and proven to be a disaster on all fronts, and supported by so few, especially those who were not given a voice at the time, and are now the ones most affected- it seems like the only democratic thing to do. Why not?

No, we talk about so many things with GCs, and I never mention B, but they do, as they are so angry about it as they are young adults who are very intelligent. They have thanks us many times.

Claremont Mon 03-Feb-25 15:41:16

Why on earth do we vote every 4 years? Why not bother then?

sundowngirl Mon 03-Feb-25 15:41:29

If only 2225 people were asked out of a population of around 69 million (maybe 40 million of voting age) how can this bar chart of the poll possible state 'All Britons' ?
Maybe I am missing something or misreading the chart

Claremont Mon 03-Feb-25 15:42:36

This is how stats work- with a sample of the population.

Barleyfields Mon 03-Feb-25 15:43:15

Do you not see the difference between a new government being elected and a Brexit deal having to be negotiated? It would never end. Totally ridiculous suggestion.

sundowngirl Mon 03-Feb-25 15:45:53

Claremont, by your reckoning, continually having referendums every few years, we could be in and out of the EU like the hokey cokey.

Barleyfields Mon 03-Feb-25 15:47:17

Time to stop digging?

A quote attributed to Mark Twain
"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

I don't think even statistics can beat Brexit on lies!

Problem is, NO Brexit deal was negotiated!

Barleyfields Mon 03-Feb-25 16:11:41

Of course it was! Just not a deal you’re happy with. Why on earth are you getting so stressed about this? There’s absolutely nothing you can do about it, so learn to accept it.

Kandinsky Mon 03-Feb-25 16:15:22

Write to your MP about this.
I know this is a talk board and people can talk about whatever they want ( within reason ) but nothing will change talking about this on here.
We’re not going to rejoin the EU even if everyone on GN agreed with you.

Maybe your MP can offer more help?

Well, to use another cliché, it's time we moved on....

Nobody is stopping you. You’re free to move as far as you like.

Just stop telling other people what to do.

Goodness! You’re touchy!

I don't get stressed about it- and I will not learn to accept it. That is the whole point of this thread. All those years ago, we were told to 'get over it' as we were a large minority. But now that it is clear that a tiny minority still suport Brexit, and the vast majority do not- then it's time to not get over it at all- but do anything we can to redress the situation.

Barleyfields could you explain what this supposed negotiated 'deal' consists of?

What henetha says is perfectly valid - we cannot live in the past, we have to deal with the present and work towards a better future.
Don't look back in anger, move on, look forward with hope.
If that's a cliché it's one I just made up.

Not like you to be rude MaizieD 🤔

Well since politicians lie, regardless of Brexit, there’s not really much competition.
