Was the voice coach just a code for something else ? It’s difficult to think that how Starmer ( I’ve no respect for the man) speaks is a result of having voice coaching. He has to be the most depressing and boring speaker ever. This was a time when Starmer was critical of the Conservatives for not being tough enough. Not only did Starmer entertain the voice coach but she travelled from Tier 3 to Tier 4 when crossing tiers wasn’t allowed.
I really hate and despite Starmer and I generally really like almost everybody.

Kier Starmer & voice coach during tier 4 lockdown
(305 Posts)How hypocritical of Kier Starmer to have had a voice coach over for lessons during
Tier 4 lockdowns on Christmas Eve!
I am absolutely raging mad that I stuck fast to these lockdown rules, that I hardly saw my parents during these lockdowns, didn’t notice my dad’s dementia because mum always came to the door, couldn’t attend my Aunts funeral, ended up with severe depression & he’s got the gall to put this woman down as a key worker, I thought that was for emergency services, care workers, & shop staff?
What was so urgent that he needed a voice coach on Christmas Eve, he wasn’t even PM?
To think that they gave BJ so much flack, it’s truly unbelievable 😩

Yes, it was quite scary the way people reported one another and seemed to relish the power over those who broke the rules. In some cases that was fair enough (eg the drive from London to Barnard Castle), but incidents like the students having a snowball fight, and people reporting one another for having 'non-essential' items in supermarket trolleys really showed the unpleasant side of human nature, IMO.
Absolutely

He does get rather rattled and cross frequently, like when questioned over his clothes or glasses.
I don't think the voice coach gave him any lessons on taking deep breaths using his diaphragm fully in order to appear less ruffled when being cross questioned!
I don’t think him getting rattled and annoyed is anything to do with his voice lessons escaped
I think he is a very arrogant man who thinks he is not answerable to anyone how about how he acts and decisions he makes.
OK if these actions and decisions didn’t have consequences for the people and country he is supposed to be leading and representing.
I think he’s probably fed up with people picking holes in everything he does and never recognising either the scale of the problems he inherited or the steps he is taking to improve the country. I would be ratty too.
I don't have any knowledge of this story, but what I will say is after everything that has come out re the Pandemic, I will never stop seeing my family again for anyone. The lockdowns in Scotland, in my opinion went on for far too long. Fair enough at the beginning until you know what you are dealing with. These lockdowns did untold damage.

I would say taking the WFA away was one of his biggest mistakes.
All that they promised not to do, they have back tracked & did it anyway.

I’m fed up with people criticising everything and not acknowledging the good stuff. The personal attacks on Starmer are ridiculous
I thought this was about the voice coach.
Much like miss Rayner's council house and her green trouser suit, it seems.
What ‘good stuff’ has this government done that I should be acknowledging?
This current personal attack on Starmer is far from ridiculous. The indications are that the lockdown measures the rest of us adhered to, and which ruined Christmas for many, were broken.

I agree. It is a godforsaken task for anyone to take over. I would be ratty too, but I would recognise that I needed to exude confidence or humility in such a way for the country to take to me, or to believe me! That's what these kind of communication lessons are all about.

Yes, I was thinking that. What is the so-called "good stuff" ?
As another SME owner I am not aware of any good stuff
As a householder, I do not consider rising Council Tax (KS is on record promising no increases in the run up to the election) along with rising water bills good stuff

Without wishing to be antagonistic, but water bills rising are nothing to do with any govt! Water and Energy should never have been privatised.
I think he needs another course of lessons escaped. Whatever he learned must have gone in one ear and out the other.

I posted this on a different thread recently - perhaps some didn’t see it.

Perhaps the current PM should have thought of that before he made his pre-election promises.
The environment secretary was doing the interview round this morning, even he couldn’t remember what had been promised.
Labour mounted a sustained campaign of vilification against the Conservative party and in particular, its leader. Now the Labour leader is proving to be duplicitous and a liar, and his supporters seem unable to recognise the truth.
Strange, that.
Lizziedrip, some of those items in your link are not what I would call ‘good stuff’. For example, the Employment Rights Bill will, if enacted, cause real problems for businesses and thus for investment and growth, and improved security for tenants will likely result in a lot of private landlords selling up. I have seen no indication that those in government have any experience in business.
As regards their environmental policies and their rush to net zero - they are a bunch of urbanites who have absolutely no clue about the realities of life for so many who rely on fossil fuels to heat their homes, cook and run their vehicles; that reliance isn’t going to go away.
And their planning reforms and mandatory housing targets are not going to produce the housing which is actually needed (social housing for rent or for purchase at genuinely affordable prices) because local authorities and housing associations don’t have the funding to buy it, ergo it won’t be built.

Barleyfields that’s your opinion, to which you’re entitled.
My opinion differs, to which I’m entitled.

It goes with the job. If he can’t deal with it perhaps he needs to find another job.

Perhaps you would explain the basis on which you have formed your opinion Lizzie, and how you consider mine to be wrong, as you evidently do.

No, but our net zero will be achieved at further expense to those who can’t afford to replace cars with EVs, or replace heating systems, by paying for imports from countries who are producing the fuels, thus contributing to pollution.
Net zero achievement claims should be made to include showing imports from other countries.
And then . . .
There’s the third runway to provide room for more pollution.
Initially, it might ease the congestion at Heathrow, but soon it will be equally congested by extra flights taking advantage of the extra runway and increasing pollution.
Its the story of motorways all over again.

There’s more than plenty of evidence that during the 14 years of Tory reign of lies, wrong-doing, duplicity and incompetence, yet stalwart supporters still won’t admit anything Johnson and crew did was wrong.
Many Labour supporters on here have criticised the removal of WFA and other policies, however no one appears to own up to the damage caused by 14 years of Tory rule or the Herculean task any new govt would be facing.
Honestly, it’s utterly relentless, I don’t recall ANYONE giving the Tories such a hard time in their first 6 months!
