Whatever your views are on this it seems that it is becoming increasingly apparent that more evidence calling her conviction into question may result in an appeal or retrial.

How distressing for the poor families involved.

Oreo Tue 04-Feb-25 15:11:25

Why on earth are you saying that as a title for the OP? You don’t know that she didn’t murder babies and a jury felt that on the basis of all the evidence that she did exactly that.

DamaskRose Tue 04-Feb-25 15:12:06

My first thought was for those poor parents.

It’s the title if he BBC news piece.
Not my title.
Am simply supplying what is available in the news.

No closure for those poor families 😢

I assume this is regarding the press conference held by the new legal team of Lucy Letby.

It was just that a press conference with new neonatal experts giving their views.

Aldom Tue 04-Feb-25 15:22:50

But that's not the full quote from the BBC. You are wrong to use that as a title in your OP.
'*Letby did not murder babies, medical experts claim'*.
The above is the full quote from the BBC.

I apologise if I didn’t include the whole title, was trying to be brief.
I hope the whole thread isn’t just going to be about the title.
I suspect I should have included a question mark.

Did anyone listen to the File on 4 series?
The evidence for her prosecution is very weak.

I haven’t followed this but innocent people have been found guilty by juries , even hanged

Granmarderby10 Tue 04-Feb-25 15:29:46

The investigations about issue(s) surrounding the quality of evidence used in prosecuting her have been gathering momentum for a few months now.

It will undoubtably be painful for the parents but this review- if it is permitted could prevent a gross miscarriage of justice.

Have changed the title.
And is nothing to do with me.
Take it up with the BBC.
Thank you.

Thank you Babs03, OP is now a true reflection of the BBC's headline.

Having read about the case, I think that it was obvious from the outset that the prosecution evidence presented at trial was woefully mishandled and the defence was nowhere near robust enough.

I am still not saying that LL is definitely innocent but it is beginning to look that way.

Barleyfields Tue 04-Feb-25 16:12:21

It’s very strange that these experts weren’t found by her defence team so that they could give evidence at the trials. She is the common denominator in all these tragic deaths and near-deaths, but I have no medical knowledge and coincidences do happen. We will have to wait and see if her convictions are judged to be unsafe so that a retrial is needed. Whatever the outcome, I feel for the parents who are having to go through this all over again (though of course they live every day, every hour with their loss anyway) and may ultimately be left without answers, as we sometimes are after a death. I sincerely hope that this won’t culminate in the babies’ bodies undergoing further investigation. That would be truly dreadful.

Luminance Tue 04-Feb-25 16:13:30

I think it would be rather a comfort to know a baby died of natural causes rather than snatched away by cruel hands. By the families of those fear children and the family of Lucy Letby as well as herself. I dearly hope that is the case. Poor care my still implicate Lucy Letby or someone else entirely.

Barleyfields Tue 04-Feb-25 16:17:31

Yes, to know that death was unavoidable would be easier to come to terms with. Though they would always wonder why my precious baby, could nothing have been done. I am very grateful not to walk in those shoes. I know that some here wear those shoes.

Babs03 Tue 04-Feb-25 16:40:18

I agree that natural causes might be easier to bear than thinking your baby was murdered. But still it is bringing it all back again for the parents who may have to suffer another trial at the end of which the murder sentence may remain.
They must be on their knees at the mere thought of it.

Margiknot Tue 04-Feb-25 16:44:09

She has never admitted deliberately murdering the babies. It’s terrible for the families.

Cold Tue 04-Feb-25 16:44:30

These are experts hired by the defence team as I understand it - so not entirely independent experts.

It is torture to try and move on when you lose a newborn through natural causes but to have regular reminders and to have to come to terms that the baby's death might have been avoidable must be sheer hell.

dogsmother Tue 04-Feb-25 16:54:32

Cold.
I think this is most pertinent.
The evidence is always what has to be used. But in this case I still think the gut instinct of her colleagues (plural) should be relevant.

jct1 Tue 04-Feb-25 17:00:33

Yes it's a nightmare for the parents, but what if Lucy Letby IS innocent, can you imagine how dreadful the whole situation is for her?
