I’d like a robust Stop and Search initiative. Knife crime needs tackling as an urgency. Loss of these young boys is beyond tragic.
And ID cards introduced (as in Europe).

You?

knife crime where i live is a problem and it is directly linked to county lines, there simply isn't enough education about how easy it is to get involved and how to get out of it in the very early stages. As a mum of a boy still at school i find it absolutely terrifying and things have happened in our local community that are far too close to home.

Free nursery places and after school clubs, not just for those on benefits but for the just managing as well. We have a ready and willing workforce stuck at home unable to work to keep their heads above water.
And more flexible working arrangements for that workforce so that the maximum can be achieved with both employer and employee seeing the rewards.
Half our population are women. Many with children. They want to work, we need them to work in order to boost the economy, is not hard to join the dots here.

You're so right!

Look at how family structure impacts the behaviour of young men in particular.

Agree.with this ...

Overhaul the sacred cow that’s the NHS - we need a new healthcare model such as the one in Germany.
Look at how the German model is funded.

Free childcare for single mum n dads, particularly during school holidays. More litter bins, dog poo bins on street. Free bulk furniture collections. More medical hubs for walking in care. Protection for deaf people and proper provision of BSL Interpreters when needed. Subtitles for every tv channell for deaf users. A liveable wage. A liveable amount of social security benefits. A lower mortgage rate.....the list go's on.

Less funding for the police. As they spend a great deal of time and resources on idiocies like hate 'crimes' that are not crimes instead of actual offences against citizens and property those elected to act on behalf of taxpayers might as well reduce funding. Dump the costly but useless Equality and Diversity 'initiatives' that now bedevil many of our institutions.

Stop making sharp pointed knives. Rounded knives can still harm but less likely to kill.

I'd like to see people employed to clear rubbish the rubbish in Merseyside parks

Maggieanne Thu 06-Feb-25 20:44:47

I'd like to see parents taking responsibility for their children. Many of the problems start with parents who don't care, in turn the children feel unloved and that's when the problems begin.
It would be nice if people took responsibility for their own behaviour in all respects, including those who have no intention of working when they are fully capable of doing so because they think the world owes them a living.

Well, it's a pity.
Single parent, cancer, new baby and 4 year old in temporary accommodation.
Don't suppose it occurred to the midwife some help or support might have been needed. angry

Thats something I'd like to see - a joined up support system where multi agencies work together to help people when needed.

I’m sorry MissA, that must have been so isolating for all of you x

TakeThat7 Thu 06-Feb-25 21:27:11

Once there are people collecting up the rubbish mainly drinks cans and plastic
bottles jobs then to create benches out of recycled plastic the tin cans made into bins to collect the tin cans Bins made attractive to children to use Disney ones whatever talking bins People employed creating more and more Bin recycling shops attached to recycling centres selling or renting out bikes wheelchairs and re usable toys

Prioritise knife crime solutions.
Less Public Enquiries.
Prioritise early years education.
Training subsidies for SMEs for upskilling of existing staff of all ages
More listening to end-users (public or non-IT professionals) when designing IT systems.
Process asylum seekers and illegal immigrants much more quickly & propaganda in the countries where most economic migrants come from so families know the risks of the journey & that streets of UK aren't paved with gold, & people trafficking risks.
Everyone stop self-diagnosing their own & everyone else's mental health "conditions"
Quicker help for families/ young people with severe / profound MH challenges
Make financial safeguarding for families with severely disabled children / children with cancer a statutory & easily accessed right, not a lottery or charity concern.

I would like instant six month bans for anyone caught using their phone whilst driving. More of a deterrent than points.

Six months (at least) boot camp in the army for young people carrying a knife. Hopefully this would remove them from their surroundings, save prison spaces where they will only be more badly influenced and give them badly needed male mentors.

Can think of lots more things but probably against everyone’s human rights…..

Agree.

Complete dismantling of NHS to be replaced with a health care model fit for today’s circumstances. Before it dismantles itself and becomes an uncontrollable behemoth which only benefits its “managers”.

For people who aren’t white and people who are Jewish, most of whom contribute massively to this country and have as much right to be here as anyone else, to be able to go about their daily lives without fear of verbal abuse, harrassment and physical assault. For people who commit racial crimes and hate crimes to be dealt with as they should be according to the law.

You live in a fairyland of your own don't you.

Athrawes Fri 07-Feb-25 12:04:52

Have people who have common sense - there seems to be little around these days!

Wyllow3 Fri 07-Feb-25 12:37:59

But what do you mean by common sense? Doesn't everyone think their own informed opinions are common sense?

Thepanaramawoman Fri 07-Feb-25 14:01:58

Wibblywobbly, what or who is your comment aimed at? I’m not sure if it’s a question or not. Is there something about being abused or physically assaulted that you think is OK and should be legalised? What do you mean by “fairyland”?

Thepanaramawoman Fri 07-Feb-25 14:03:46

Wyllow3, I agree entirely.

An integrated health and care system. The current NHS and the the lottery that is the care system are not fit for purpose. Time for root and branch reform.

I have just had a conversation with an NHS physio who is quite upset that the unit he works in is unable to give patients the vital therapy they need to recover from life changing strokes.

NICE guidelines say they should get 3 hours therapy a day. He is lucky if he gets that in a week! He is sad, I am sad and disappointed and the physio is sad but as he says “that is how things are right now.”

The millions that are thrown at the NHS have made little difference. Also, what is the point of NICE?

I would like public services that work. I would like children to be allowed to be children. I would like redistribution of wealth and mostly I would like life to go back to how I remember it. Gentler, slower, more predicatable and kinder.

Absolutely this- I would hate to be a youngster in this day & age.
Glad I am on my way out & not on my way in.
