I would like to see secure units for those young people who display dangerous behaviours and are known to several agencies.
Don't wait until something tragic happens to someone as we saw with the Nottingham and Southport killers. Both were ticking time bombs and should have been sectioned for the wider communities safety but 6 lives were lost because there is nothing in place.
A quick turnaround for illegal immigrants. If they cannot apply in the normal way then they cannot have a life in the UK.

What would you like to see done in the UK right now?
(115 Posts)I’d like a robust Stop and Search initiative. Knife crime needs tackling as an urgency. Loss of these young boys is beyond tragic.
And ID cards introduced (as in Europe).
You?

In terms of immigrants, what do you mean by “applying in the normal way” In order to claim asylum in this country currently you have to physically be here. If you’re coming from certain countries you are prohibited to travel to seek asylum, so “normal” ways would be out of the question.
Do you not remember Berlin and the USSR behind the iron curtain? It’s similar in certain other countries.
”also extreme porn sites, especially toward women”
Agree Mt61.
Why is violence towards women and girls increasing?
It’s because extreme, violent porn videos where women and girls are horrifically abused are readily available on social media platforms.
The more that people (usually men and boys) see this behaviour, the more they become desensitised to it. It becomes normalised to them.
That’s how the human brain works; it’s basic psychology - not rocket science!
Make the tech oligarchs *remove this c* from their platforms before an entire generation of young boys / men have their brains ‘rewired’.
Apologies for the ‘hyperbole’ but I feel strongly about this issue.

Oh, I know only too well.
The point being also, that giving people what they need, a little help, sometimes, would save money in the long run with repeat tests having to be done, appointments made when results to discuss arent available.
I couldn’t agree more, I was once involved in the project involving family works and DWP working alongside each other to help families in crisis, but below Social Services remit (tier below child in need). It was a great partnership and stopped in many areas due to monetary constraints. Early help is vital.
The dwp were just awful when I had my grandson to live with me.
Shouting my business across to the colleagues, didn't know what exactly the rules were for help with childminding for an 11 year old.
Trumpeting out "Does anyone have the number for the Families with problems charity?" in front of everybody...

That’s truly awful! I was forever calling out my colleagues for poor behaviour towards both claimants and their colleagues. But there were some good people there, few and far between, but I always did my best for 14 years to give the best advice, service and to be diplomatic and preserve the respect of those with whom I worked. I totally understand where you’re coming h from and it’s what made me take early retirement in the end, knock g my head up against a brick wall constantly wore me down
Oops soz about typos
Free nursery places and after school clubs, not just for those on benefits but for the just managing as well. We have a ready and willing workforce stuck at home unable to work to keep their heads above water.
And more flexible working arrangements for that workforce so that the maximum can be achieved with both employer and employee seeing the rewards.
Half our population are women. Many with children. They want to work, we need them to work in order to boost the economy, is not hard to join the dots here.
I must say, they were much kinder the second time I had dealings with them, but I was less beaten down and fragile by then, and determined that they would show some respect.
They probably thought "Aye, aye, stroppy mare herr!"
MissA - stroppy mares get things done, in my experience: well done, you.

I'd like the death penalty brought back in for ALL animal abusers/killers totally irrelevant of age, gender, social status, excuses etc.
If we had a police force and a judicial system that we could trust, yes. But we haven’t. So we are stuck with what we have.
Miscarriages of justice cases are rising, not falling.
Definitely agree with immediate searches for people carrying weapons
I’d also like public transport to be hugely improved to reduce the traffic congestion
Spend more money on railways not new runways
Good thread. And the 1st time I think I have ever agreed with FriedGreenTomatoes2 (previously *Urmstongran, I think), re ID cards anyway. Let's find out who's really here and whether they have the right to be here.
I would like instant six month bans for anyone caught using their phone whilst driving. More of a deterrent than points.
Six months (at least) boot camp in the army for young people carrying a knife. Hopefully this would remove them from their surroundings, save prison spaces where they will only be more badly influenced and give them badly needed male mentors.
Can think of lots more things but probably against everyone’s human rights…..
A new style of government which doesn't "encourage" MPs to stick to the Party lines at the expense of decency and common sense. Well, I can dream....
Thank you Ramblingrose22 (yes I was indeed Urmstongran 😁).
ID cards was one of my wishes. Nothing to do with tackling knife crime of course. Completely separate issue.
So many sensible grans on here. We ought to form a political group for the next GE! We’d smash it. We could call ourselves the Common Sense Party.
I agree with you again FGT2.
We'd do a better job than most politicians, but that includes DT for me, so we'd part company there.
Fair enough! 😁

Since you have let us know you support the Reform Party and its one of their key and well known "slogans" as all can see, isn't it a wee bit disingenuous here to suggest "inventing" a new Party?
Ime everyone tends to think their own political ideas are "sensible".
Now, its sensible to avoid burning yourself and its sensible to wear warm clothes in winter,
but in terms of what we think is good for society its an opinion.
I would like public services that work. I would like children to be allowed to be children. I would like redistribution of wealth and mostly I would like life to go back to how I remember it. Gentler, slower, more predicatable and kinder.
Lots of great ideas here but we need a magic wand to fund it all. The financial cut backs on public services are continuing. They have been under staffed & under funded for years, and often blamed for not doing this or that. It’s easy for new political parties to point out all the errors and make wonderful promises, but will they find the money needed to fulfil it all?
Banning smart phones for children is a simple idea which could do with government support. My DIL is trying to get an agreement on this with the local primary schools in her area. One person on here mentioned something about Australia banning them for under 16’s. An ordinary old mobile phone would still allow parents to communicate with their kids. Children don’t need smart phones and are vulnerable to abuse or bullying. Something seen cannot be unseen.
Where do I start…
Beg the European Union to have us back 😢
Overhaul the sacred cow that’s the NHS - we need a new healthcare model such as the one in Germany.
Overhaul the benefits system - there are too many people reliant on the state who should be encouraged to work.
Immigration - we’re a small island with too many people. Alongside that, a significant minority of immigrants need to be encouraged to embrace the culture of the host nation or at least accept it.
More support for teachers - our education system is another thing that’s a shambles.
Sort out the rail network so that trains are seen as a viable mode of transport.
And, last but not least, acknowledge that there are two sexes only and accept that the trans lobby is affecting women’s rights.
Forgive me if I sound like a right-wing nutter (the last thing I see myself as) but the country’s in a mess. I know none of these things is likely to happen and that’s why I have to switch off from politics.
Rant over.
