Breaking news: Congratulations to Andrew Gwynne who wins the ministerial sack race of 2025

The Labour MP for Gorton & Denton was tonight sacked as a health minister after the Mail on Sunday revealed his vile WhatsApps. After a 72-year-old local resident got in touch with Gwynne’s constituency party to complain about her bin collection, the MP wrote a suggested response: ‘Dear resident, Fuck your bins. I’m re-elected and without your vote. Screw you. PS: Hopefully you’ll have croaked it by the all-outs.’
Charming.

All the above is a quote from this week's Spectator. What a lovely man, I am so glad he is not my MP

The messages were exchanged in a group called ‘Trigger Me Timbers’, which Gwynne shares with more than a dozen Labour councillors, party officials and at least one other MP, all based on the outskirts of Manchester. The MoS gained access to thousands of messages from the closed group, which was set up in 2019, and discovered a barrage of abusive texts. Among them are Gwynne saying someone ‘sounds too Jewish’ and ‘too militaristic’ apparently from their name alone, and sexist comments about Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner performing a sex act.

Agree 100% with M0nica the entire group have disclosed their colours and should be kicked out. If they weren't disgusted enough by his remarks to either report him or kick him out of the group then they endorsed him by omission.

One of the group reported him according to the news reports, so clearly they were not all involved in this behaviour. An investigation will reveal all.

I often wonder what these people think they are doing putting this out onto a Social platform?
They just don't think. If you are in the public eye why do this? Total idiot makes you wonder how he got to be MP.
Just as well his been binned by Starmer

He should be permanently suspended from the House of Commons. People like him should not be making laws for the rest of us to obey. He sounds vile, as well as a racist, a misogynist, and ageist. He has absolutely no respect for anyone so why should anyone have any respect for him.
Can you honestly imagine how your employers would have reacted if you had behaved this way? Many people would be fired, and so he should be found unfit to represent the people and there should be a by-election and a new, more suitable MP elected.

rafichagran Sat 08-Feb-25 23:41:21

I agree with Monica also. He is a disgusting man, vile views, and and very immature and misogynistic.

I don’t take such a hard view of this mishap as you all, this was a closed group of Labour councillors and a couple of MP’s it wasn’t for the public and it certainly wasn’t an email sent to the 72 year old who had complained about her bin collection.
Must admit I laughed at the first line of it.I expect a good drop of vino had been consumed and he was amusing the others.
True, you have to be damn careful about these things coming to light and did the MoS infiltrate the group or did one member of it decide to dob him in? It was meant to be private but nothing now is. I think Starmer should suspend him but not sack him, tho he may get a different job within the Party.
Am not being lenient cos he’s a Labour MP btw but think it’s not a hanging crime.MP’s are just as human and fallible as anyone else.

I am sorry Oreo I am shocked beyond words by your response, you sound like a real Corbynite.

These kind of remarks made to a group of fellow local government officials , whom he must, by definition know will complicitly understand and have a good laugh at his 'jokes', or is it 'banter', completely disgust me.

The fact that he made these remarks to a group he felt so comfortable with, shows that they shared his attitudes to his and their constituents.

These were not the occasional flip remark, later regretted, that all of us have made at time. These are the remarks of engrained ageist, anti semitic bigot, with a deep contempt for the very people on whose vote he is dependent and who he is ostensibly pledged to serve.

Not only should he be kicked out of the Labour party but so should everyone else in the group who received the messages and did not protest them.

I have to agree with Monica chapter and verse….👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

We should all be worried that a man with these views is a voting member of a government that makes the laws of our country.

Who else is in the Government that shares his views and would vote to pass laws to make these opinions reality?

It’s A nest of vipers….

What sort of person writes that! He needs to take a good look at himself, what an example to his family.

Whether it was to be made public or not, it just shows his mindset doesn't it.
What a pig of a man.

Babs03 Sat 08-Feb-25 22:49:30

Why do these odious men feel they can say what they want and not get found out?
They lose their careers and reputations, is it really worth being part of some grubby little club where they can be as dreadful as they like for no good reason.
So many entitled men around at the moment who certainly learned their three R’s when growing up - how to be Repugnant, Repulsive, and Revolting.

I think there will be large numbers of stupid people representing us and who knows what MP’s get up to and write and say? I also think drink may play a part and then all things sensible fly out the window.
He was stupid to joke with others in that way and has paid a heavy price for it.The sad thing is he was maybe a good MP.

Some joke 🤬. Sorry, but no excuses should be given, he’s supposed to be a representative for his constituents and should be able to behave accordingly, whether he agrees with what someone might say or not. If it’s true that he’s said these things, then shame on him and I do hope he doesn’t have a parent/s of 72 plus years..
It’s all very well saying that it was a closed group, etc, etc. The point is, it should not have been said, and ridiculing people is, in my view, not at all funny, privately or otherwise.

But he wasn't a good MP. And he's also terribly stupid.

Good riddance

I have to disagree.

Do we want such stupid people representing us?
Someone who holds their constituents in such contempt?
He has a mind like a sewer.

He's been suspended from the Labour party.

Oreo Sat 08-Feb-25 22:11:51

He hardly had a choice…

He isn’t, no. He’s been an MP since 2005, and served as a shadow minister under Jeremy Corbyn too.

Good grief!

Is he a user?
No-one in their right mind, especially a representative of the peopl , should be responding like that.

Indigo8 Sat 08-Feb-25 21:20:07

He must be really thick, as well as 24 carat obnoxious, to put his ghastly thoughts in writing. Good riddance!!!

It never ceases to amaze me the buffoonery of some that enter public life, I'm not even attributing such idiocy to one party. Do they not even contemplate an indiscretion such as this is going to hit the headlines sooner or later? it's very hard to hide that level or awfulness these days. Whilst he might think it, which is bad enough, but what kind of idiot says it shock and of course it shows an absolute derision for the people he represents. What an arrogant jerk!
