Want to understand what Trump is doing? Part 2
(1001 Posts)The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.
They are all bullies who do not live in the rational world like the rest of us do.
Lies, and complete ballsups -
The White House confirms that a journalist was inadvertently added to a group chat where senior US officials discussed plans for a strike against the Houthi rebel group
Editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, says he received an invite on the encrypted messaging app Signal from an account labelled White House National Security Adviser Michael Waltz.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who is alleged to have shared details of planned military strikes in the chat group, tells reporters "nobody was texting war plans"
Trump "President Trump says he knows 'nothing' about journalist in Houthi strike group chat.
A further issue (apart for the reliability of the technology) is that messages disappear after a week, but
"Official government communications are supposed to be either automatically archived, or the individuals involved are supposed to forward, copy, or preserve the messages"
information from BBC I player news feed.
Insane isn't it? The incompetent.
Well, we now how Florida plans to fill all those jobs left open by deporting migrants. Children!
www.cnn.com/2025/03/25/business/florida-child-labor-laws/index.html
It won't their own children being sent out to do night shifts though.
Well, everyone knows that small children are very useful in the chimney sweep business due to their small size.
Migrants can be exasperatingly large.
Good news. Special elections have started all over the country. And Dems are wiping the floor with Republicans. They are flipping long held Republican seats and seats that Trump won by over 15% in November.
There is a very important election on April 1st in Florida and New York. 3 seats in the House to replace the people Trump nominated to cabinet positions. If these 3 seats flip, Dems will take control of the House by 1 seat. Which will be just enough to a big thorn in Trumps side. To be honest.
The bad news, Trumps EO today targets elections. Apparently only his rules are safe.
And he wants to audit state voter roles. This is, in my opinion, an effort to legally challenge the results. Because he does that a lot.
At the same time, Reps are filing impeachment papers on judges who rule against Trump. Johnson mentioned trying to disband the federal courts. I didn't get into how he plans to do that.
Oh and, the "National Security Team" discussed war plans with a journalist on Signal while one of the people on the group was in Kremmlin.
Bernie Sanders and AOC are doing a tour around the country. And it is drawing record crowds. Here is Colorado they held 2. 1 in Greeley which is a fairly red area. Rhey expected 1,000 and 11,000 showed up. In Denver, 34,000 showed up.
People are holding "empty chair" town halls in red areas where Reps refuse to see voters. Those are drawing record crowds. And embarrassing the reps IMO.
People are starting to push back. Which of course means things can go off the rails quickly.
MAGA is starting to attack protestors. In Texas a man tried to drive his car into protestors. Luckily no one was injured. In California, a man tried to taze a woman. Then a grandma twice his age took him down. It was glorious to see.
He is upping the violence rhetoric. Death threats for public officials are increasing, violence increasing on the streets isn't far off IMO.
I am starting to see Trump as to some extent the expendable fall guy in this, pushed to the front of the Revolution by the shadowy organisers and theorists who would like to see a complete change of direction in US politics - but not toward the Democrats. If Trump is dethroned (that word carefully chosen) it will be Vance who takes his place.
I accidentally came across a FB page where someone described how there is one political philosophy in the US which advocates dumping democracy and treating the head of state as a CEO (or as a monarch in the Henry VIII style) who runs the whole country like the head of a commercial business with shareholders, or like a dictatorship. Peter Thiel and Elo Musk are of this philosophy, and (according to this page) they drew in J D Vance and backed him as a VP to Trump.
Unfotunately, I was so interested in following a link to an interview with one of these philosophers (Curtis Yarvin) that I forgot to save a link to the original page, so I can't share it with you, but here are two links. One is to that interview - Curtis Yarvin looks drugged and surly in it, but he sounds dangerously serious in his pronouncements. The comments below it are from people with their feet on more sensible ground. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDTtxMItva0
The other is a talk by someone who knows a great deal more about philosophy as a subject than Marvin. The format is rather annoying, as it is chopped up into short attention-bites punctuated by ads, and the speaker is rather show-bizzy in his bright and chirpy presentation, but worth watching at least some of it (and skipping the ads) www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrrsnFT-LNo
imaround, that's most encouraging. I love the "empty chair" meetings.
Please carry on keeping us informed.
The Atlantic released the texts the journalist received.
This is a big deal.
Tulsi Gabbard is getting grilled again by Congress today, and looking very uncomfortable.
This should kill the careers of the people involved, but I am doubtful.
In the UK it would mean resign....thank you for your news round up imaround
going back well into the USA's past people did fight for civil rights I hope the momentum continues.
Well this is gross behavior by an elected official. I am not at all surprised it is MTG.
She verbally attacked this poor UK reporter. Please know the majority of Americans do not accept or condone this behavior.

She is well...gross.
Had an email from Open Britain with this information about elections in the USA
"While US news today has been focused on the ludicrous and embarrassing ‘Signal-gate’ fiasco, an astonishing new executive order from the White House slipped by without getting as much attention as it deserved.
In addition to requiring proof of citizenship just to register to vote, the order gives Homeland Security and DOGE the power to comb through states’ voter rolls, ostensibly to root out supposed fraudsters.
Musk and Trump have repeatedly claimed that millions of immigrants illegally vote in US elections. That lie has been thoroughly debunked.
Research shows remarkably few incidents of non-citizen voting. Just 30 votes out of 23.5 million reviewed (0.0001%) in one major study were flagged for further investigation – and even those weren’t even necessarily confirmed.
It’s been just over two months since Trump took office, and already the world’s richest man is set to have unprecedented and unelected control over America’s voter registration system.
The Trump-Musk project is not about “efficiency” or “security.” It’s about control. It’s about dismantling public institutions, eroding democratic rights, and silencing opposition.
(Open Britain have a petition, Trump not to address parliament, not hard to find)
Trump and CO. Must know there is a big chance they will lose the House on April 1st. He just pulled Stefanik's nomination for UN Ambassador. This will keep an extra R in the House.
OR
He is going to remove the US from the UN and doesn't need an ambassador.
One never knows what will happen next with this lot.
Or perhaps one does know, imaround, ie, anything to further their interests! It would matter a great deal to lose the advantage in the House.
Oh, I so hope they don't take the USA out of the UN - despite all, its important, symbolic as well as practical.
RFK told people with measles to take Vitamin A to help cure them. A couple of weeks later, patients are showing up at the hospital with liver damage from toxic amounts of vitamin A.
"Several patients at Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock have been found to have abnormal liver function, CNN reported, which can occur when a person takes excessive doses of vitamin A. Those being treated include “a handful of unvaccinated children who were given so much vitamin A that they had signs of liver damage,” the New York Times reported.
Only Trump can decide what true history is apparently

What a shame Spitting Image is not around any longer. They could have done a marvellous puppet of a cross between a tyrant and a two year old in a temper for Trump. His two year old will be shouting "I want it I want it!" But in his case , it is not a teddy, but another country and all their minerals. He seems to think he just has to say he needs something and that is enough to grab what does not and never did belong to him. Alternatively we can look at the tyrant side watching his behaviour with the president of Ukraine etc.
Why on earth would the uk want to be allied to him? We have always been an island off Europe and would have been much better being in some agreement with them. We have already seen that Trump has no idea of loyalty or dimplomacy and you cant trust a word he says unless it is going to benefit him. Starmer must have had to take sick pills before he had to offer him another trip to England to meet the King. Let us all support Greenland in gaining their independance and the right to decide on their own future. I have visited there and there is no love of Trump or wish to be any part of his domain. It is not a bone for Trump to fight over. (Seeing how greedy he is , do you think it would stop there either?)
I do wonder why people don't see that this is WW3. The three most illiberal, anti-democratic powers are fighting for the ownership of the world's natural resources, strategic military locations, and to destroy other strong global networks.
Do not simply mark Trump as mad. What Hitler did seemed mad as he attempted to build the Third Reich. What Genghis Khan did building the Mongol Empire will have seemed mad to those he conquered and sadly many of the acts carried out in the attempt to extended the Great British Empire will have seemed, at the very least, mad.
The current acquisitive three powers are not allies but they will leverage one another's moves to get what they want.
imaround, I understand that Mr Kennedy has decided, now, to " blame " the six year old who died from measles complications .
He explained that problems arising from measles were more likely to occur in those who exercised less and ate a poor diet.
I am not sure that this will be of comfort to the bereaved parents who were guided by the " vaccination is dangerous " rhetoric.
edition.cnn.com/2025/03/27/business/video/trump-tariffs-cars-impact-mark-zandi-digvid
“Buckle in': Top economist says Trump's tariffs may backfire”
“President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on all imported US cars that will go into effect April 3. Trump believes these tariffs will boost US manufacturing, but economist Mark Zandi predicts the tariffs will result in higher prices and less US jobs.
imaround you may not be aware of the controversy that our politicians should have second jobs or not, but this takes the biscuit:
What we know about Trump family’s plan to sell a new cryptocurrency
edition.cnn.com/2025/03/26/business/video/trump-family-cryptocurrency-stablecoin-foreman-ebof-digvid
Mind you, it would help if I really totally understood what a cryptocurrency is, but I can just imagine UK reactions if Starmer was setting up one
