The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

Thank you. I've heard of them in our parliament too.

What is this one trying to block exactly - it's not the budget, but which significant legislation? Glad to see Republicans taking part, it must be controversial.

More recently:

Chris Murphy D 15 hours
Ted Cruz R 21 hours
Rand Paul I 13 hours (Libertarian right)
Bernie Sanders I 8 hours (Socialist Democrat left)
Harry Read D 9 hours

Chris Murphy joined Cory Booker today in support because Booker stayed with him during his own filibuster.

Booker is going to be the leader we need as long as Dems don't try to reign him in to keep Schumer happy. Schumer isnt popular right now with Dems because he did not stand up to Trump. Left voters are calling for him to retire.

Wyllow3 Wed 02-Apr-25 01:08:30

I'll check in tomorrow and look up Booker.

The vote was a procedural rule to advance a package of Republican bills that specifically does not allow proxy voting in Congress. This came from the case of a Dem Colorado Rep who was on maternity leave and asked to proxy vote. They said no. She loaded up her newborn and took him to the floor of Congress where she voted against Trump.

9 Republicans joined the Dems to vote against Johnson.

Republican Rep Luna from Florida is actually the one who has been pushing this. She joined the Dem from Colorado and told Johnson off.

She actually resigned her position on the House Freedom Caucus over this.

The good news is this, cracks keep appearing. The more vocal the voters are, the more Repub reps are going to start pushing back like this. Courts are ruling against him daily, lies are starting to surface and mistakes are being made.

We are going to keep pushing.

Republicans both won in Florida. They will keep control of the house.

Trump pulled the nomination of the NY gal, so no election there today.

No results reported in Wisconsin yet. It will be a few hours. This is the one I am more worried about to be honest. As far as I am concerned, Florida can build a wall around itself and sink into the ocean. They all get exactly what they deserve.

imaround Wed 02-Apr-25 02:44:06

The Dem is at 58% of the votes for the Wisconsin Supreme Court Case with 32% of polls reporting.

The polls are reporting record turn out and some locations had to get more ballots for everyone because they didn't have enough. Everyone's will be allowed to vote and all votes will be counted. Most likely these employees will be working through tomorrow.

I hope Musk is fuming he gave up $2 million to voters and is going to lost anyhow.

Despite the Dems losing in Florida, they were actually able to cut in half the Rs margin of victory. That is a good thing.

Churchview Wed 02-Apr-25 10:02:55

So disappointing when your cheese hat fails to impress the electorate.

Wyllow3 Wed 02-Apr-25 10:22:20

Wisconsin supreme court race: liberal Susan Crawford beats Musk-backed candidate.

Crawford, a liberal judge from Dane county, defeated Brad Schimel, a former Republican attorney general and conservative judge from Waukesha county, after Musk and groups associated with the tech billionaire spent millions to boost his candidacy in what became the most expensive judicial contest in American history.

The result means that liberals will keep a 4-3 ideological majority on the state supreme court. That majority is hugely significant because the court will hear major cases on abortion and collective bargaining rights. The court could also potentially consider cases that could cause the state to redraw its eight congressional districts, which are currently drawn to advantage Republicans.

Pointing to the potential to redraw House districts, Musk ha

Musk earns roughly $555 million a day in interest
$2 million is probably what he would consider a tip.

Later tonight we will get the lowdown on the new Tariffs. So far it has proved impossible for Trump to understand that U.K. VAT is not a tax aimed at USA imports but a Sales tax on (most) goods and services, regardless of origin. So I reckon we are going to get hammered. I wonder what Trumps rich buddies will think when their bottle of Scotch goes up 25%.

imaround Wed 02-Apr-25 20:29:55

I haven't even looked yet. He is an idiot no matter what.

Norah Wed 02-Apr-25 20:59:06

Was his tariff rose ceremony today?

Dow closed up today, up 500 since Nov election. Good news, I suppose.

Musk has fired the all the employees from the department that helps low income people, including seniors, pay for heat/air conditioning.

He also severely cut employees that help facilitate Meals on Wheels, which is a food delivery program for seniors and disabled.

If that doesn't show how much the Trump regime loves Americans and wants the best for them, then I don't know what does. confused

MayBee70 Wed 02-Apr-25 21:22:39

He’s just slagged off all the previous American presidents. Weren’t some of them Republican? As for everything else, what the hell is he actually rambling on about???

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 02-Apr-25 21:31:20

Come now, Maybee, surely you understand that no former President, of any colour, could possibly be as wonderful as Mr Trump.

Special reciprocal tariffs at his rose ceremony. Daft.

He really is rambling, I’ve been watching, but at the rate he’s going it will be hours of waffle. He just said 10% reciprocal tariff for the UK, but whether that’s what it will end up as by the time he finishes, goodness knows (I don’t think Trump does himself).

Wyllow3 Wed 02-Apr-25 21:37:17

Those are really bad news, imaround

trump tonight

Trump says jobs and local manufacturing will come "roaring back" to America, and promises to "pry open foreign markets".

He touts stronger competition and lower prices for consumers, to applause.

"This will indeed be the golden age of America," Trump adds."

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 02-Apr-25 21:51:06

He says American grocery prices are coming down (eggs 59% less now), ‘gas’ less than 3 dollars etc. I like the way he praises his team. Name checks them.

MayBee70 Wed 02-Apr-25 22:16:54

Aren’t the egg prices coming down from the astronomical price they went up to when he was first elected?

Wyllow3 Wed 02-Apr-25 22:31:37

I expect some people will think will suddenly bring back years of lost manufacturing jobs and everything will enter his long promised golden age and others will be a tad more realistic. We'll have to see, as its predicted that prices overall will go up.

Casdon Wed 02-Apr-25 22:46:55

The Mumsnet thread is very entertaining.

The tariff on the Heard and McDonald Islands will only be 10 percent.

However, no-one lives there anyway.

Except he is lying. Everything is up and gas has been less then $3 a gallon for a long while. Before him.

His team literally uses an unsecured app and email to make war plans, rounds up asylum seekers in the US amd sends them to prison camps in El Salvador and says oops we made a mistake! Oh well, we cant get him back now.

Nothing I have seen about his team is commendable or deserving of being celebrated.

Thank you Casdon. Mumsnet is indeed entertaining. Not very reverential towards POTUS are they? My favourite quote ''His toupee is clinging on for dear life".
