The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

Mine was the reality - Trump actually thinks he's generating money - the Guardian quote

""Donald Trump says the tariffs he has announced will generate “$6 trillion in investments” but experts explain that tariffs are actually paid for by American businesses and consumers That would make it the largest “tax hike” in US history."

Always good to get the facts on the ground, imaround.

The head of Social Security knowingly made decisions to "punish" the Governor of Maine, by harming its people.

And then the emails of him doing it were leaked.

From Alt-National Parks.

"Emails reveal that Dudek Leland, Acting Commissioner of the Social Security Administration, knowingly took illegal action to punish the people of Maine for political reasons.

In response to Governor Janet Mills refusing to comply with what’s being called a potentially unlawful executive order from President Trump, Leland terminated two vital SSA contracts with the state. These contracts managed enumeration at birth and electronic death registration—programs designed to reduce fraud and ensure payment accuracy.

Here’s what the emails show:
- February 21, 2025: Trump threatens Maine directly: “You’d better do it, because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t.”
- February 27, 2025, 3:30 PM: An SSA staffer warns Leland that canceling the contracts would increase improper payments and create risk for identity theft.
- February 27, 2025, 7:09 PM: Leland replies, ordering the contracts be canceled anyway, writing:
“While our improper payments will go up, and fraudsters may compromise identities, no money will go from the public trust to a petulant child.”

That “petulant child” is a direct reference to Governor Mills—for standing up to Trump.

Despite reinstating the contracts on March 7, Leland’s email clearly shows:
- He knew the consequences (fraud, waste, identity theft),
- He ignored professional warnings,
- And he acted out of political revenge, not public service.

The bottom line? Leland admitted—in writing—to intentionally harming the people of Maine and risking taxpayer dollars to serve political ends. This isn’t just unethical. It’s criminal."

I wonder if Trump called this part of his team out by name today to show appreciation?

Its petty. It's morally and socially wrong. No one can defend it!

Thank you Casdon. Mumsnet is indeed entertaining. Not very reverential towards POTUS are they? My favourite quote ''His toupee is clinging on for dear life".

This one intrigues me…
“In-dust-tree
Tech-knuckle.

Reminds me of the scene in Austin Power when the fembots start to malfunction”.
I haven’t seen that film but I need to watch it now!

The Mumsnet thread is a joy.

My favourite "My mother would have been shaking her head and saying ‘verbal diarrhoea’."

The ‘Giant Wotsit’ made me laugh, it can be very amusing on Mumsnet.

He says American grocery prices are coming down (eggs 59% less now), ‘gas’ less than 3 dollars etc. I like the way he praises his team. Name checks them.

They disposed of the infected chickens, new chickens - new eggs - prices lowering. After Easter I'd hope egg prices will low. Not about POTUS.

Gas taxes in the 50 states are different. Gas does not appear to be less than 3 dollars a gallon going into travel - summer period.

"Today, April 3, 2025, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.260, up from $3.238 yesterday, and $3.155 a week ago.

As of today, April 3, 2025, the average price of regular gasoline in California is around $4.89 per gallon

$4.89 in California - home to 39.4 million people.

Here's a breakdown of current gas prices:

National Average (Regular): $3.260 per gallon

Yesterday's Average (Regular): $3.238 per gallon

Last Week's Average (Regular): $3.155 per gallon

Month Ago Average (Regular): $3.097 per gallon

Wasn't it to do with Avian Flu? That's why prices rose.
Not a Trump Triumph at all!

In the past some countries – like South Korea, Britain and the US – have used tariffs to protect and foster nascent industries, and grow rich from the results. Can America's current experiment with protectionism work out the same way?

This is a short version of a longer interview to be released on Sunday.

"The measure, jointly introduced Thursday with Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), would limit the president’s power to impose tariffs. It would require the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of such an imposition and for Congress to explicitly approve any new tariffs within 60 days. The bill also would allow Congress to end any tariff at any time."

Our first bipartisan bill I think. If Grassley is on board, they may have enough willing to jump in Congress to take some power back from Trump.

This will escalate the power struggle though, which could be a good thing if Republicans in Congress do their jobs. They hold the power to remove him from office.

They won't, but they can.
