The other filled up very swiftly - so I assume a need for it’s continuation.

History will need accounts such as mine, I know. Which is why I keep posting, even if no one is reading it. smile

Someone needs to tell the truth about what happens if he is successful. Because he wont.

I’m reading them. We need people from Trump’s country in order to see how it is impacting them. I would love to see a MAGA follower posting as well. Although unless they are totally caught up in the cult, I think they will very soon be showing huge disappointment.

Imaround, this thread is on my watch list and I’m always keen to read your posts. Please carry on.

It used to be a badge of honour for young US citizens that they had worked for the Peace Corps, a way to serve, a way to add experience to a CV, and of course "soft power" for the USA.

It really does indicate a tragic loss of a proud part of US identity that these activities could be cut or restricted. What is it doing to young people?

Protests in almost every big city today. Trump is playing golf with the Saudis while we all try and figure out how much the tariffs are damaging us.

He skipped being present when the bodies of the first 4 soldier who died on his watch were brought home.

The largest group of Federal employees is veterans, many of whom have been laid off.

He is also gutting the VA and veterans are going to lose health care.

And now this.

Making them inward-looking, parochial and also selfish?

I hope the weather holds. Tornados across Southern states moving north, would appear bed weather for protests?

Florida for golf, avoiding a transfer of military personnel caskets.

It is reported that he claims he didn't know anything about the deaths of the American soldiers!

It is alleged that, meantime, the Saudis are paying him millions for the privilege of playing golf with him. Whether true or not, I do not know.

Perhaps, his doge attempts to save money are misdirected. I'd think US forces are underpaid and without good benefits - probably removing mortgage relief was a mistaken saving attempt.

I'm reading it with interest, Imaround, and passing it on to friends and family. Also getting occasional updates from a Trump despising "pen-pal" in South Carolina. You Are Not Alone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 05-Apr-25 17:36:59

For balance wouldn’t it be good to hear from some Trump supporters?

Aely Sat 05-Apr-25 18:33:42

I don't know any. Do you, FGT?

Wyllow3 Sat 05-Apr-25 18:34:51

I'm keeping my eye open for later to see details/pix of the demonstrations. CNN had this "starter" but its early in the day.

One thing I like about these demonstrations is the huge numbers of "home made" placards instead of some organisation mass producing them. Its like everyone is giving their personal slant and has made the effort.

I found this analysis regarding the reputation of America and a permanent shift in the world order being acknowledged and acted on very interesting, posted in case anybody else wants to understand what the future relationship with USA might hold.

I have listened, ie its not American First, its America alone (except for awkward buddies like Putin), and our only way ahead is a strong Europe because Trump/Vance are severing old alliances for ever, and "no going back".
It did strike me that the difference could be if the American people themselves halt those directions, many are very unhappy.

Wyllow3 Sat 05-Apr-25 18:58:21

He also mentioned people deciding to "not buying American" and given the other thread in GN on that it is happening.

Not on here 🤷‍♀️

The protests arent really being covered by mainstream news yet. Here is an article with photos of the DC March. I saw one mention "thousands" of protestors. Saw a comment on another place that said over a million.

I have no idea how they estimate crowd size, but I can say this looks like more than a few thousand and less than a million.

I was just watching the protest in one of the Chicago areas, there are definitely thousands there, this is a pan shot.

"Hundreds of people also demonstrated in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a few miles from Trump’s golf course in Jupiter, where he spent the morning at the club’s Senior Club Championship. People lined both sides of PGA Drive, encouraging cars to honk and chanting slogans against Trump."

Wyllow3 Sat 05-Apr-25 21:33:47

Great photos, keep them coming.

It gives me hope. Again, dont you just love the "home made" ones.
There were also demonstrations in Europe, US citizens in number of cities, some photos of that here and a video of the Washington one to watch.

Here's a great video - quite detailed - from the demo in New York, with some interesting interviews including from lawyers, and a marching band

There are other videos on u tube from further West pending editing as they were later.

Reports from Paris about the protests in several French cities by Americans (video) interesting commentary on detentions when they return to the states

I am seeing photos from around rhe country pop up. I wosh I could post some here.

From Utah, one attendee said rhey had never seen anything like it in the heavily red state.

Trump voters are not happy with him either right now honestly. And he is off golfing with the Saudis while the country false apart due to his dealings.
