USA dealings with Russia and Farage

Farage was one of the principal people to persuade people to vote Brexit, splitting UK with the EU. He cosied up to the USA and supported Trump’s election. Additionally, Farage is hoping to have money from the USA to back his party in the UK . Considering, what Trump has done by having his team talk to Russia and suggesting to cut up Ukraine as well as taking the rights of ‘rare earth’. What is Farage doing with his US friends? I haven’t heard anything from him yet. What would you hope he will do?

From the Guardian

'For there is no such thing as a free lunch, even at Mar-a-Lago: being part of the court of Trump means sooner or later feeling obliged to defend the indefensible, which inevitably comes at a price back home. For all those on the British right who have basked in his favour, let this be a moment of reckoning.'

but they have all gone quiet! Not surprisingly. So which will it be?

Trump is unpredictable and anyone who sups with him needs a long spoon.

If only Babs03.
I was hoping, as he wanted to lead the UK and had Trump’s ear, he would hop in a plane to whisper some good for Ukraine in that orifice.

Faragè has been batted aside by President Trump and his chief lackey, Musk. Naive Nigel is just one of an army of "useful fools" who once worshipped at The Temple of Trump, hoping to share the limelight.
Now he's simply surplus to requirements, rather like the voters who put Trump in the White House.

I think Farage will follow Trump but he won’t necessarily be upfront about it. In the end the UK will also follow Trump, they haven’t got much choice.

mokryna Thu 20-Feb-25 07:41:36

nanna8 No there is no choice because of Brexit. Now Trump writing on Truth Social, ‘This War is far more important to Europe than it is to us, we have a big, beautiful Ocean as separation.’ That same ocean is between the USA and the UK.

There’s no point in the UK ‘following Trump’ and we do have a choice. There is Europe right there on our doorstep where most of its leaders are at least sane.

Most Brits detest or dislike Trump. It would be a further nail in Labour’s coffin if they took us too close to Trump.

Who says most Britons detest or dislike Trump. It seems to me that is not true. A lot admire his stand on immigration, borders, gender, transwomen in sport and would like to see that here. What is concerning for Europe and UK is his policy on trade tariffs and this latest intervention with Ukraine although he wants to keep out of Europe. Yes we all want to see the war ended but not this way. For once Boris Johnstone and Starmer agree about something.

madeleine45 Thu 20-Feb-25 08:12:23

Oh , have just had an idea. I should get some nice invitation cards printed and invite Trump, Farage, Putin, Assad, Johnson and a few others who spring to mind to come here to a special conference . They can all come and (sorry what was the name of that village where the big sink hole has opened up?) what a lovely thought that they could all be swallowed up in one great moment!! Ah well I can dream cant it?

You appear to think that because you were born in this country ( how many years ago) and comment on uk sites, read uk newspapers that you know us
From your post above it’s very clear that you know nothing about us.

Churchview Thu 20-Feb-25 09:29:28

I strongly believe that if the UK government condones Trump's stance on Ukraine in any way the population will not tolerate it. Certain factions of society might admire Trumps, but we are a just people who will not tolerate liars and Trump is a liar.

Starmer and Badenoch have both condemned Trump.
The Daily Mail comments section is an indication that even the readers of the right leaning press are appalled by Trump this week.

MaizieD Thu 20-Feb-25 09:35:10

Who says most Britons dislike or detest Trump? The polls do, that’s who.
I don’t make things up.

love0c Thu 20-Feb-25 09:35:19

IMO Trump is trying to start conversation regarding Ukraine. We did not expect this war to go on for years. But it has. Something has got to happen and change. It can not go on as it is. EU Countries pouring millions of pounds into Ukraine and no change. Countries are already starting to 'talk'. Good on Ttrump.

Oh thanks for that petra I really appreciate that only British people are allowed to comment on here and I think it might be time to go. I am shocked and surprised at your xenophobia , frankly. I will not reply to any more of your posts.

That was a bit offensive wasn’t it Nanna8. But if she is to be true to herself it means Petra shouldn’t comment on other countries apart from her own.

eazybee Thu 20-Feb-25 10:26:19

Yes, Petra's post was offensive.
I heard Tony Abbott being interviewed at the weekend and he seemed to have a good grasp of British and American affairs, far more so than Trump about Europe and the rest of the world.
Please continue posting, nanna8

I don’t agree.

Despite Reform crowing about their ever-increasing popularity, it’s still a very small part of our political system.

It seems those who support Reform generally also support Trump, which in effect means they also support Vance, Musk and Putin.

This “unholy” alliance can only end in tears, possibly dragging us all along with them.

We, in the UK, have, through ignorance and in some cases sheer stupidity, have cut ourselves off from our closest allies, and now have little or no clout with anyone.

vintage1950 Thu 20-Feb-25 11:14:57

Why do we never hear from the LibDems these days? Or have I missed something? They have more seats that Reform.

Yes they have more seats, with a lower voting count. First past the post anomaly. Still Lib Dems have always been a nonentity, always will be.

Just remind me how many MP's the LibDems have got compared to Reform? Imo the LibDems have always been the voice of reason in British politics and still are. Far more relevant than Trump worshiping Farage and is handful of MP's...

Hey we are not all as rude as Petra in her reply to you. Don’t let that put you off.
Am afraid threads like this can bring out the worst in people
Your opinions are as valid as anyone else’s.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 20-Feb-25 11:45:47

Anyone heard from Farage, Tice or the rest of Reform lately?

All gone quiet whilst they try to work out a good excuse for Trumps behaviour.

Make the most of it - it won’t last

LauraNorderr Thu 20-Feb-25 11:47:17

I would like to see Farage, Trump, Vance and Musk lined up over the next expected sink hole and hope it opens up all the way to hell.
