Nanna8 Where on earth do you get your information from? This is so obviously untrue. Crimea, as part of Ukraine, have long fought against Russian dominance.

I'm wondering what the quotes mean around the word narrative?

My information generally comes from the horses mouth, ie when speaking about there being no or very little RE minerals in the Ukraine my information came from the geologists/RE mineralist.

I enjoy reading more detailed information than if it were re interpreted by a 'journalist' (my quotes😄are pointing out not all journalists are equal in their professionalism)

The LSE analysis did not include the importance of the port of Sebastopol. It is the only port open all year round. We think that this port in the Crimea is the main motivation for Russia holding the area. I am a bit surprised that LSE overlooked this dimension!

Actually the article stuck to the remit of the research ie Identity and citizenship, it was not about the strategic importance of Sevestopol.

What a peculiar post, Trump is pushing for an end to the war by stopping arms to sustain it, when many other countries are wanting to escalate it.

Trump is pushing the world towards war because he has changed the balance of power and is enabling the strong to threaten the weak. Sadly he doesn't seem to understand the role which the US took willingly when NATO was formed in 1949. The narrative that the US has been fleeced by Europe is completely false.

It sounds to me like Putin is bringing pressure to bear on Trump to secure this deal asap or else. I mean I know the war has lasted 3 years but why the sudden knee jerk urge to end it by any means, including giving Putin Ukrainian territory and easing sanctions on Russia. Neither the former or the latter make any kind of sense when a ceasefire hasn’t even been agreed.
Obviously Putin has Trump in his sway and is dictating what he should do, and I do believe this will include getting rid of Zelenskyy and replacing him with a pro Putin leader so that Putin can rule Ukraine by proxy.
Is just so obvious that this is the case. Maybe Putin has ‘the goods’ on Trump or maybe he is angling to get the mineral rich territory and split it with Trump, maybe both are true. Certainly this is not how we end wars.

I do think there's a lot of truth in your speculations. As I said in a previous post I do wonder what sort of private deal Trump has made with Putin and why.
Trump only cares about himself and secondly America, he has no wish to assist the rest of the world. He's right in that other countries have not paid their due share towards defence but that's no excuse for his actions.

I have listened to various radio programmes about this and read reports.
It’s def a divided region.

Unfortunately Putin won’t just be content with the Crimea region in any peace deal, he’ll want all the land they have now taken over, and unless there is security and peacekeeping there will go back for more in a few years.

Trump is deliberately damaging Zelenskyy. Giving him very little choice but to accept Trumps terms on the minerals deal . The US will then take over Ukraine. Get rid of Zelenskyy and get a puppet president in place who will adhere to Trump . Putin will get to keep the land he has taken over illegally .Putin and Trump can then mine and trade Ukrainian minerals with the world .
Trump far worse than Putin . Trump wants Ukraine, Gaza, Greenland, Panama, Canada . Why are we ignoring this ?

I agree GrannyGravy13. It was bound to happen. It’s bully boy tactics. I think domestic issues will now consume Trump, he certainly isn’t in a comfortable position.

I do hope you are right, and certainly I think Trump will find some very serious problems to deal with in the US, but I am dreadfully afraid it will not stop him trying to do all the things he talked about in his speech - take over Panama, tax European imports to the US, force a peace deal through, unless we stop him, that will make Ukraine vulnerable to Russia, and probably quite a number of other countries as well.
