And also eases sanctions on Russia.

Well, if that doesn't prove the Man-Baby isn't in the pay of Putin then nothing will.

nanna8 Tue 04-Mar-25 08:00:48

Trump wants the European stuff over and done with so he can concentrate on China. He doesn’t care about Europe or Ukraine basically. He cares about the USA and himself. One track mind. A side effect will be peace because he doesn’t want to spend money defending anywhere except where China threatens. He really doesn’t care that Russia is an aggressive power.

OldFrill Tue 04-Mar-25 08:02:25

Once Putin has Ukraine, complete with a puppet president, Trump will get Greenland. That's the deal.
All Starmer's diplomacy, kowtowing, bribes of state visits are a total waste of time, Trump will do exactly as he wants. Trump hates Europe and Starmer is a mere court jester to him, entertaining enough but of absolutely no importance.

ronib Tue 04-Mar-25 08:03:55

PoliticsNerd I believe that Putin is willing to negotiate with Ukraine. It’s time to move to that option.
America has said that it won’t continue to support the war. Best look at hard reality. This is where it stands.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 04-Mar-25 08:04:17

ronib- how are you with Mr Trump funding Israel? Is the continuing slaughter there ok?

RosieandherMaw Tue 04-Mar-25 08:06:16

Nobody else is joking.
With your attitude America would never have entered WWII except to retaliate against Japan for Pearl Harbour.
Isolationism was a strong force then - as it would appear to be now.
But the post-war balance of power depended on NATO including America on the one hand and the Soviet Union on the other.
Factor in the growing economic, military and technological power of China and the weakening of the Western alliance by fragmenting it - what could possibly go wrong?
Wake up and smell the coffee is a more appropriate suggestion than “Get over it”.

I am not joking. This war is sickening. In what way am I totally ill informed about this war? Why are you so invested in it continuing?

Nobody wants the war to continue, nobody relishes the loss of life, but kowtowing to an aggressor like a Putin whose expansionist tendencies are well known, and even easing sanctions before a peace process is underway, is totally unheard of.
Should we in this case of simply given Hitler part of Europe in order to end the loss of lives? After all that war went on a bit too long and caused economic problems.
We want an end to the war but handing Ukraine to Putin on a plate is not how we do it.

To any American hoping to apply for British citizenship please be aware that our hospitals are crumbling, the NHS is in the process of being remodelled, private education is under fire, food prices rise all the time and energy is in a state of flux and super expensive.
Not only that but Europe has refused to pay its way on defence and it will take at least 3 years to build itself back to where it should be.
It’s entirely right for Trump to take full responsibility for the defence of America and to encourage the rest of the world to meet its own obligations without recourse to America.

I doubt many will agree with you.

ronib just came out with sound bites which don’t add up to you having an understanding, either of what effect Trump’s actions are having, or of even the concept of diplomacy to resolve this, or other wars or potential future wars. People judge by what they read you say - and you lose any argument when you say ‘get over it’ , it’s what people say when they are in a corner and an aggressive response is all they can think of.

ronib Tue 04-Mar-25 08:09:15

RosieandMaw with your attitude, WW3 is around the corner.

I agree he cares about himself, I very much doubt he cares about the USA.

ronib Tue 04-Mar-25 08:10:50

Casdon get over it was meant- Russia has won - accept it.

I sincerely hope not!

None of us want the fighting to continue, not the war in Ukraine, nor Israel/Gaza, nor anywhere else.. BUT we cannot simply roll over and give in to dictators and bullies, which is what Trump/Putin & sadly many others are, many many people lost their lives in WW2 fighting for our liberty, imo, we let them all down the moment we cave in.

Parsley3 Tue 04-Mar-25 08:13:25

After his deal with Putin, Trump had to manufacture a reason to "pause" his support of Ukraine and so he started that public spat in the Oval Office. Trump is no humanitarian and anyone trying to put that spin on his actions is deluded.

Your words give you away.

RosieandMaw so Americans should be relieved that at last a president has looked for a cessation of hostilities and loss of life. It’s perfectly moral to ask Z to stop the slaughter and discuss a peace plan. For Starmer and Macron to pretend that Ukraine can win is grossly irresponsible and foolish. Get over it. Ukraine lost.

Not sure you understand winning or losing either.

Russia has 650,000 dead

Ukrainian 57,350 dead

Russia invaded Ukraine and expected to be in control of Kyiv and the thereby the entire country within a matter of weeks.

The fact is three years on they have made minimal inroads, have massive losses of man power and hardware, so much so that they are relying on North Korea soldiers.

Nobody wants to see death and destruction, but nobody in their right mind wants to give the green light to any aggressor that aggression wins

ronib Tue 04-Mar-25 08:17:20

So what is the game plan?

Cossy Tue 04-Mar-25 08:17:25

So, has the time come to tell Trump to pull all of his air bases from the UK and bring his “people” home?

We could use the infrastructure on their bases for very much needed housing and make use of other resources!

RosieandMaw with your attitude, WW3 is around the corner.

With your attitude we will all be speaking Russian within the next ten years

foxie48 Tue 04-Mar-25 08:18:29

Russia is weak ATM to make a peace deal that rewards it's aggression is madness, this is the time to show solidarity and strength. We have the history of WW2 to look at and learn from. Trying to appease Germany didn't work and neither will appeasing Russia. We all want peace but not at any price.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 04-Mar-25 08:19:15

Totally agree foxie48

Casdon Tue 04-Mar-25 08:20:23

ronib

So what is the game plan?

Quit the sound bites, and give us your own rational solution based on your evidence about securing peace ronib.

ronib Tue 04-Mar-25 08:21:43

Russia has a large army. Ukraine doesn’t.
Where did you find your figures GG13?

keepingquiet Tue 04-Mar-25 08:22:48

Putin coud end this war tomorrow and you know that Ronib!

PoliticsNerd Tue 04-Mar-25 08:26:10

Oh, I can see the hard reality of Trump leading the USA and the illegal war fought by Putin ronib, which, given half a chance, he will take further into Europe.

America under Trump makes it a stand alone country only interested in making money from the rest of the world not caring for internal or external law.

The people in this country backing him will find they do not benefit. Next step may well be the US leaving Nato.

ronib Tue 04-Mar-25 08:29:52

How could Putin end this war tomorrow when Z sees no end in sight? It takes two.
Putin hasn’t spent 3 years fighting over disputed territories just to give up now.
