And also eases sanctions on Russia.

Well, if that doesn't prove the Man-Baby isn't in the pay of Putin then nothing will.

Russia is weak ATM to make a peace deal that rewards it's aggression is madness, this is the time to show solidarity and strength. We have the history of WW2 to look at and learn from. Trying to appease Germany didn't work and neither will appeasing Russia. We all want peace but not at any price.

ronib, your posts on this thread (and others) suggest you admire and support Trump and see Putin as a reasonable aggressor.
Are you planning to move to the USA to get away from all the horrors you listed that American s thinking of a move to Britain need to know about.

ronib Tue 04-Mar-25 08:34:24

That’s a ridiculous comment Iam64 and doesn’t help the situation.

Are Trump and Vance simple business men who focus on no more than financial profits ?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 04-Mar-25 08:37:42

I do wonder how much the fact that Putin is pretty much on his knees or will be over the coming year, has anything to do with ceasing military supply to Ukraine.

Ukraine would almost certainly have the advantage over Russia if the USA continued to supply them as promised.

I think there is certainly a big element in that. They are becoming a pariah state who will if possible exploit as much of the world as possible to their advantage.

Do remember Lease Lend during the war. Britain took decades to remunerate the US. Is Mr Trump going to favour a profitable loan from the US to Europe ?

Russia has a large army. Ukraine doesn’t.
Where did you find your figures GG13?

Easily found on the internet.

Questions to ask:-

How many Russian soldiers have died since Russia invade Ukraine.

How many Ukrainian soldiers have died since Russia invaded Ukraine.

If you are really interested in facts you can find out how much of the Russian weaponry has been lost as well, including tanks, helicopters etc.

All the information is available, Russia is considerably weaker militarily now than three years ago.

Cabbie21 Tue 04-Mar-25 08:43:34

Jeremy Bowen on BBC1 has just said that this proves that Trump views all other countries as “ raw material” to be plundered to make America richer and greater.

Babs03 Tue 04-Mar-25 08:43:36

Well with crippling tariffs announced on Canada, Mexico, and China, China has already promised a trade war which will see the cost of living in the US adversely affected. And I don’t suppose Europe or the UK will escape. So it won’t be the Ukrainian war crippling world economies it will be Trump.
We thought Truss was bad. Just multiply the damage she did by a several billions.

AGAA4 Tue 04-Mar-25 08:47:37

Trump is finding the war in Ukraine tedious and costly and would be happy for Putin to take Ukraine. He obviously thinks it's more advantageous to ally himself with Russia.
By pulling support from Ukraine he knows that Russia will very soon be able to take Ukraine and Trump will be satisfied with that outcome.
I have the greatest contempt for Trump.

I just don’t know how this is actually happening. Trump isn’t a president he is behaving like a Mafia Don.

Aveline Tue 04-Mar-25 08:53:54

A question: what is Trump going to do with all the money saved by cutting Ukraine funding as well as sacking all those civil servants?

Trump certainly likes to think he is, however all his $$$$$$$ comes from his father and grandfather.

PoliticsNerd Tue 04-Mar-25 09:04:17

Can I suggest that to Russia post should just be ignored? People supporting Putin will not be persuaded.

Indeed and if the POTUS doesn’t understand that his trade tariffs will be rewarded by returning the favour?

He’s really a very stupid and dangerous man

^Get over it. Ukraine lost^

I suppose from your attitude you believe we should have rolled over and let Argentina annex the Falklands?
What next- where does China fancy? Got Hong Kong, maybe move on to Australia?
US to annex Greenland before declaring Canada its 51st State?

No - bullies should not always prevail.

Ukraine is not the Falklands, Russia is not Argentina. It’s too close to home to escalate when Russia can do a lot of direct damage to us. It’s a war that shouldnt have happened, now is the time to end it, whether we like it or not if the US stops arms supply it ends the fighting.
The sooner that is accepted the sooner the damage can be repaired.

David49 Tue 04-Mar-25 09:08:44

“What next- where does China fancy? Got Hong Kong, maybe move on to Australia?”

Neither, Taiwan is Chinas target, if The US got bogged down trying to win Ukraine war, sensing weakness China would move on Taiwan.

So Yelensky is to be sacrificed to pander to the vanity of an egomaniac, that is, ^one who has a psychological disorder that makes him believe he is the greatest, most important person in the world.^

This so true, Trump has always been driven by his huge ego and his thirst for revenge against anybody who disagrees with him, doesn’t do as he wishes or pay him the respect he thinks he deserves.

Sounds very much like appeasement and dangerous shortsightedness to me.

Funny you should say that, if it wasn’t so scary.

ITV news was reporting this morning that over the last few days China has been circling Australia with some of its fleet…

RosieandMaw with your attitude, WW3 is around the corner.

With your attitude WWII would never have happened - and we’d all be speaking German.

MaizieD Tue 04-Mar-25 09:19:46

I don’t think the US armaments industry, which is profiting from the Ukraine war, is going to be too thrilled about this development but I suppose that the European ‘alliance’ could buy the arms instead to send to Ukraine.

I don’t know about the other countries but I saw it reported yesterday that Germany is planning a massive ‘off the books’ increase in monies to deal with this crisis, subject to the approval of their parliament

To any American hoping to apply for British citizenship please be aware that our hospitals are crumbling, the NHS is in the process of being remodelled, private education is under fire, food prices rise all the time and energy is in a state of flux and super expensive.
Not only that but Europe has refused to pay its way on defence and it will take at least 3 years to build itself back to where it should be.
It’s entirely right for Trump to take full responsibility for the defence of America and to encourage the rest of the world to meet its own obligations without recourse to America.

I agree with other posters in wishing to publicly disassociate myself with the above post.

For any Americans hoping to apply for British citizenship please bring your skills to the UK.

Our country is not perfect (which country is) but, with reference to the above points:

Our Labour government is committed to the NHS and is already making improvements.

There are plenty of private schools should you wish to privately education your children. However, it’s not necessary to do so - we have an excellent state education system.

The cost of many foods is nowhere near as expensive as in the USA.

Energy prices are expensive but not beyond the means of the ‘ordinary’ person.

You do not need to be super rich to live a good, decent life in the UK.

We have freedom of speech (despite what Vance says); we’re not ruled by oligarchs and autocrats. We like to ‘moan’ (some more than others) but I feel safe and cared-for in my country.
