- without warning, in the middle of the night- in the middle of Ramadan.

NOTHING.

So not true that Gaza is in the news because it’s what Trump wants. Trump since January 2025

Marches re Gaza since 2023

No I wasn’t inferring that’s why Gaza is in the news, just pointing out that whilst there are lands people want those conflicts will feature highest in the news.

Clearly Israel want Gaza. Hamas wants to hunt down and kill every Jew and
Netenyahu wants to stay it power.

It’s all shocking and I hope it ends very soon in some sort of peace.

Why I wonder, are other equally terrible conflicts , apart from a modicum from Ukraine, are hardly ever reported upon never mind demonstrated about, Syria, Sudan The Congo, Yemen and so on, and yet Gaza is non stop? Could it be, 'No Jews, No news?' Just a thought!

No, I don't think so, in the way you've phrased it.

Palestine was a British protectorate for years and years, the UK helped carve up the region after promises in 1917, there has always been a "special interest" in the news for as long as I've lived.

Alongside that are lifelong concerns about the balance between a haven for Jewish people post WW2 and the rights of Palestinians also - events around 1967 wars and the drive for peace and the conflicts starting about Israeli expansionism..... never left the press really. Few in the UK aren't aware at one level or anther, whereas events in other regions are not consistently in the news.

As for the specifics, few other conflicts have the interest and involvement of groups abroad that Israel has - Jewish communities in many countries, its just not the same as Sudan, or the Yemen.

1000 Israelis killed , one terrible day
50,000 plus Gazans killed, thousands of women and many children killed, , 18 months of terrible days x 50

Israel with wealthy powerful friends, unending advanced weapons, their iron dome protection which stops incoming rockets. Presumably living comfortable lives.

Close by are Gazans surviving on nothing , having lost everything, their lives, homes, possessions, limbs, with basic aid being refused by Israel, which is a crime, no iron dome to protect, no powerful friends, stateless and unrecognised by most of the world.

We have all seen what’s happening on tv but there are none so blind as those who will not see.

All violence is abhorrent but the huge power and wealth inbalance between the two sides is stark.

This is maybe why people march.

Sometimes the loudest don't actually signify a large majority. I would hope we have learnt that but maybe not.

Anniebach Sat 22-Mar-25 17:23:33

If true 50,000 plus killed , Hamas releases figures, killed through the evil of Hamas

Claremont Sat 22-Mar-25 17:41:34

This is just getting sicker than ever. Killed by Israeli bombs, and IDF soldiers, and often illegal settlers, protected by IDF.

silverlining48 Sat 22-Mar-25 17:48:01

Yes Claremont on the the West Bank Palestinians are being thrown off their own land by force, houses and olive groves burnt, many people have been killed, yet it hardly gets a mention.

It was reported that Lebanon denies they fired rockets.

Netanyahu is pure evil. Any excuse to continue the war to save his skin.

So true; Netanyahu faces serious charges if the war ends.

Yes Claremont on the the West Bank Palestinians are being thrown off their own land by force, houses and olive groves burnt, many people have been killed, yet it hardly gets a mention.

This has been going on since 1948 when Israelis brutally threw Palestinians out of their homes.

Aveline Sun 23-Mar-25 07:43:48

I can never understand some people's surprise at the Palestinian worm turning. You can't bully people for so long and not expect a response.

Anniebach Sun 23-Mar-25 08:06:58

1948 , birth of a Jewish state. 5 Muslim countries. Declared war on the Jews

Aveline Sun 23-Mar-25 08:35:34

Understandable

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 23-Mar-25 08:36:36

These conflicts in this part of the world have been going on since Old Testament times, Skodadoda.
The peoples of the Middle East find it difficult to live together. Only the weapons have changed.

Yeah, right hmm
Ever hear of Hezbollah? It isn’t the Lebanese government firing missiles all the time into Israel, it’s the terrorists.Having said that, the government has several Hez members and are scared to death by the organisation generally.

silverlining48 Sun 23-Mar-25 09:01:44

Since 1948 nearly 10 million Palestinian refugees have been driven out 0f their homes and lands. Many still live in refugee camps in nearby countries close to Palestine and others spread throughout the world. Israel does not allow them any right of return to their homes. Some families have kept their house keys for nearly 80 years. Passed down through the generations. Imagine for a moment. Heartbreaking.
Anyone with any compassion seeing donkey carts among the rubble loaded with families and what’s left of their possessions off to yet another ‘safe’ place yet never is. Imagine being trapped in a tiny strip of land with no escape knowing that they and their children could be killed that day or the next , just imagine if that were you and yours.
Most people are good people whoever they are and just want to live a peaceful and safe life.
I heard a rabbi on r4 earlier who is protesting against Israel and its treatment of Palestinians saying many Jews feel the same as she does. She can see through the politics of Israel, why cant others.

Anniebach Sun 23-Mar-25 09:09:15

Which? a tiny strip of land or Palestine.?

After rockets were fired by Lebanon on Israel

What damage did these rockets do? Were lives lost? Was property destroyed? Is there any proof of rockets fired?
