Bit of a shock to find Dan Norris my MP has been arrested and suspended from the Labour Party following allegations of rape and child sex offences. I thought it was dishonest to take two salaries, one as WECA Mayor and one as an MP. Constituents complained he didn’t reply to them when they wrote to him, but this is something else if true. He is an NSPCC Child Protection Officer as well.

wyllow very easily it seems look at the church, the schools the children’s homes These low life I have better names but don’t want to get banned seek out these jobs and are often good at them
In my town at the moment we have an ex school teacher with victims coming forward after years and even those who didn’t suffer at his hands are now saying they were always uncomfortable around him
This is nothing to do with a particular political party or a particular religion or a particular job it’s men in a position of power however small
(Off subject…Personal opinion is opposite to FGT ever since I saw toffee nosed JRM asleep in the House with his feet up on the bench in such an arrogant position I have no time for him and now earning more money by putting his family on a tv programme I have even less)

Yes, Fried green Tomatoes, i agree with you about Jacob Rees-Mogg, a perfect gentleman, which some use as a term of abuse, and an excellent MP.
With regard to Dan Morris, I know nothing about him, and am always wary about retrospective allegations until the evidence is made available. He has held a number of senior positions, and these allegations have taken a long time to surface.
We shall see.

Nana49 Sun 06-Apr-25 08:05:52

Personally I don't believe these allegations.

eazybee Sun 06-Apr-25 08:07:25

I know even less than I thought; Dan Norris, not Morris.

Iam64 Sun 06-Apr-25 08:08:10

I am no more wary of historical than I am current allegations. There is ample research to help us understand how hard it is for victims to speak out. Children often don’t have the words or comprehension. We’ve seen this frequently in recent years

Jacob Rees Mogg & 'gentleman' aren't comfortable in the same sentence. He's an absolute buffoon & also holds some very questionable values such as fox hunting (cruel & illegal sport). I have no idea how he ever became an MP. He should do some work experience in a homeless hostel or something it might learn him something. Nope.
It isn't unheard of that people are wrongly accused, we got to see what happens.

Iam64 Sun 06-Apr-25 08:14:47

It’s more likely an alleged abuser will deny than that false allegations will be made

Galaxy Sun 06-Apr-25 08:32:22

He became an MP because people voted for him Nana, the fact that you don't like his views doesn't really impact his right to become an MP if enough people vote for him.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 06-Apr-25 08:35:39

These are very serious allegations and I'm glad to see that he is suspended.
Who represents the constituents in this situation?

It's astounding that anyone ever did vote him in historically. Thankfully people saw the light & he no longer has a seat. Despicable character.

" a nice man"

Like Trump?

This case sounds very distrubing.

Indeed Iam.

Rees Mogg. Pro blood sports, "completely against" abortion even in cases of rape and incest (whilst personally profiting from companies that make abortion pills), votes against any initiative to support the poorest in society, voted against provision of school dinners during holiday time to help the poorest children during covid, blamed Grenfell victims, blamed Covid victims, horizontal in parliament and refers to the electorate as 'pot plants'.

Dan Norris innocent until proven guilty.
Rees Mogg has shown us who he is already.

Frightening c.v. if allegations are true.
Perfect access to children.

Such a shame he won his seat by beating Jacob Rees Mogg by 5,000 votes. JRM is a perfect gentleman. Courteous and honourable. One of the few Tories I really do like.

I find JRM arrogant beyond belief and not really at all part of the real world.

I’m really angry and shocked at Dan Norris, and if found guilty, hope they throw the book at him!

It’s sickens me when anyone abuses their positions to their own ends, irrespective of which party they represent.

nanna8 Sun 06-Apr-25 10:04:37

You have to be a bit of a weirdo to want to be a politician these days. Nothing surprises me about any of them.

Anniebach Sun 06-Apr-25 10:15:26

Cossy why are you angry and shocked,You believe him guilty of allegations made ?

This isn’t about Jacob Rees Mogg although I did find him to be a good constituency MP. Equally I found Dan Norris to be a good constituency MP many years ago when he was MP for Wansdyke before the boundaries were altered.

I have not, however, approved of Dan Norris as WECA mayor with massive spending on controversial schemes which I won’t go into. He was rapped over the knuckles for spending £10,000 of tax payers money for sticking a giant photo of himself and his dog on the side of a double decker bus. I expect the papers will dig out all the dirt they can. It was just such a shock that he has been accused of these alleged offences. It was an equally shock a few years back when my GP was sent to jail for pornographic images of children on his computer.

These are people in a high position of trust and it makes you feel tainted. The LP have done the right thing in immediately suspending Norris. This could go on for months so who is going to represent us his constituents, although he hasn’t been answering email for months?

Wyllow3 Sun 06-Apr-25 10:57:52

As regards guilt I believe that there must be substantial evidence before an arrest was made, enough to be suspended, but we can't say he is guilty of all or part of the allegations until due process.

What I really hope for all is that it's dealt with as soon as possible. I presume the next step is appearing before magistrates and entering pleas.

As someone who lives just over the border, in Mendip, I absoutely agree with your points. As a local councillor, he was impressive and latterly as MP for Wansdyke, but he let everyone down badly with the whole WECA thing. I know you don't want to go into 'those schemes' but they were and are ridiculous.

Sorry I posted that too soon. I also meant to answer your last question. We had a similar situation here in Mendip, when our MP (Warburton) was suspended. We were unrepresented for over a year, but his office still dealt with queries - apparently, though I don't have personal experience of that. It seems that, until he either steps down as an MP, or is found guilty of an offence, he is allowed to be an Independent and so should still represent you over the border. It wasn't satisfactory for us though and Warburton eventually resigned. We now have our second LibDem MP (due to the boundary changes) since that happened.

What I find frightening is that these perverts walk amongst us often with a veneer of respectability.

I really don't think his political party comes into it, FGT.

Abhorrent wherever you find it - dont try to make "political capital" out of it.

I agree, but I’m certain there would have been political capital made out of it had the accused been a Tory.
We have seen that endlessly on GN.

Yep 👍

You don’t have to look weird to be an alleged sex offender, many of them hide behind a cloak of respectability.

Definitely, the Tories bad Labour and Lib Dem’s good mantra is common in GN
