Bit of a shock to find Dan Norris my MP has been arrested and suspended from the Labour Party following allegations of rape and child sex offences. I thought it was dishonest to take two salaries, one as WECA Mayor and one as an MP. Constituents complained he didn’t reply to them when they wrote to him, but this is something else if true. He is an NSPCC Child Protection Officer as well.

Maybe "the known twat" could be the lesser of two evils in such a context, and I suspect it would be a story if the aforementioned "twat" or indeed any other "twats" whatever their political persuasion were at the centre of such a controversy. Depending on the outcome, this Labour MP could well morph into such a definition and join the ranks of his predecessor. As there is an enormous spectrum of behaviour that goes into the constitution of "A twat" and it does seem Mr Norris may well have some of the defining characteristics. Strangely they're not confined to one political partyhmm

What is the actual story in this case though TerriBull? Do you think that the alleged bullying allegation by a displaced employee would have been newsworthy if it hadn’t come on the back of the later, much more serious allegations? I suspect not, unless it had come to court, because there are many people with grievances against their former managers, including those in politics. I think the Telegraph is knowingly making something of very little in this case.

Easybee I agree that all charges made recently are relevant and Norris of course has rightly been suspended and awaiting trial.

But it's frustrating in terms of the selection story because only the Telegraph is pushing the story of what Starmer is supposed to have known when Norris was actually selected -

there is no other source nor fact check. (just repeats of the Telegraph story on SM)

As Casdon said
"It may have escaped the notice of the Telegraph that even if Starmer was made aware of another potential case against Norris, (and the League Against Cruel sports btw)

the candidates for the elections had been selected well prior to June, as the election was on 4th July?

Whether Starmer should have taken action at that point, when there was no substantiated information except the word of a displaced chief executive who presumably has an axe to grind is doubtful."

Thank you easybee.

Nana49 I suggest you start your own thread about JRM and leave mine alone.

It's not actually "your" thread, that's not how it works. It's an open forum, if you want your very own thread, that's called a blog.
You don't get to control what people write I'm afraid.

Dan Norris has been banned from the WECA offices with his key fob deactivated.

He’s access to Westminster also revoked. There is more to this case in this circumstance.

Dan Norris has been banned from the WECA offices with his key fob deactivated.

Doesn’t that always happen if an MP is suspended?

Casdon Thu 10-Apr-25 14:27:32

I assume in this sort of case, access is always denied to prevent the workplace computers being wiped of any evidence? I don’t know, but otherwise that is a risk.

Wyllow3 Thu 10-Apr-25 14:38:47

Makes sense. He still actually hasn't been charged with any specific offences, they have to collect evidence.

Banned not as an MP but his separate role as WECA mayor. He is still technically mayor until the elections on 1st May but he cannot access the buildings or IT or any meetings. This was issued to staff as an assurance.

Just checked. No it doesnt automatically happen if an MP is suspended but

"New rules in Parliament mean that a risk assessment is carried out when an MP is arrested on suspicion of a violent or sexual offence, which can decide to ban them from the Parliamentary estate"

Obviously this applies in the case.
