Thanks fgt and Galaxy.
If you bought a potato salad would you expect potato?
Good Morning Wednesday 6th May 2026
It’s been a while so I will start us off…….whats for supper and why?
We were just sat with a couple of American medical doctors who were avid Trump supporters. They didn’t understand why there is so much opposition to him in the rest of the world. They said he had got rid of a lot of people who did no work but got paid for their services in government circles and that they had witnessed all the waste within government health services and other departments themselves ( didn’t know they had any to be honest, thought it was all private health there). It was interesting to hear that they thought he would save America. They also said the Ukraine is one of the most corrupt regimes in the world (!!) involved with many worldwide illegal trading including that of young girls . Who to believe? They were clearly sensible high achievers. I said Trump may be good for the US but a disaster for everyone else. They didn’t like that at all.
Thanks fgt and Galaxy.
Get well soon Iam64 Covid is no fun at all, is this really the first time for you? My neighbour calls herself a Covid virgin😁
Give yourself little treats.
I agree that Trump supporters are a varied lot, so many millions voted for him so that’s what you would expect.
I’m glad we have Starmer here too, even tho I don’t agree with everything the government is doing. On the world stage it’s good to have a calm head.
imaround
Did someone mention mob boss?
He is demanding yearly payments from Europe, for "reparations" I guess, before he will even sit down at the bargaining table with them.

This is massive, imaround
Trump, who has frequently criticised transatlantic trade imbalances and NATO burden-sharing, stated that no talks would take place unless the European Union committed to making annual payments to the United States, both retroactively and going forward
will this include the UK? We were part of the EU for a long time.
I think it deserves a thread of its own!
Thanks Oreo, I have been lucky but on a retreat last week was certain two people arrived with it. By today 5 of 12 positive, plus the originals who didn’t test.
I have a good book but watching a tv police drama right now. Feel rough and hope my imms help. I could have had the latest jab last week but fixed it for today as I was away. GP phoned - good service

Markets bounce up and down all the time. Huge losses at the moment but it won’t last. It never does.
I wish I could share your confidence. Vast sums have been wiped off the value of people’s investments across the globe, and it is predicted that the fall will continue for some time. I feel for anyone nearing retirement whose pension fund is invested in equities. Trump will be the ruin of many.
Oh I love a police drama when I am ill or fed up.
I disagree with some of the things Stafmer has done nationally but internationally I think he is handling issues such as Trump, Ukraine really well.
Or Starmer as he is more commonly known.
He’s called all kind of things Galaxy and it’s good to know we agree on some of the actions he’s taken. I continue to feel we have a thoughtful determined person as PM in these tough times
Galaxy 🙈😏. I’m beyond work getting in the way of a scrap on gransnet but covid has finally sought me out, so my brain more fuddled than usual.
I hope you feel better soon, Iam64, I know how miserable it is so rest, plenty of fluids and hope you have some vitamins D, C and general vitamins and minerals.
Thanks everyone for kind support
Iam64
Thanks everyone for kind support
I think Line of Duty is returning in the autumn.
Hope that cheers you up!
It does - line of duty is so good
Wrong information sorry!
They may start filming in January 2026. But that's very promising,

Of course it won't last, the Dow was only down 372 today.
Up down, profit taking. It'll go back up, always does.
Feel better Iam64!
Here is the survey taken in 2024. As always, every voter has different reasons for voting for Trump. I think this report confirms Galaxy's thought that Biden and the Dems came up short the last 4 years, which helped Trump win in 2024. Honestly, historically, the #1 driver of election results is the economy. Many voters in this report said the economy was their driving factor, which is why they feel so betrayed with the tariffs and what Trump is doing.
It is also helpful to point out that MAGA and Republicans are not simply the same group. In fact, MAGA should have been it's own political party in my opinion. The Tea Party actually started back in the early 2000's and eventually morphed into MAGA. From my experience living here we broadly have:
MAGA voters: these voters are mostly on board with Trump's policies. They are ok with him taking people off the streets and shipping them to El Salvador without due process is fine. They are anti DEI (which is different than Affirmative Action) and say they want merit based hiring, but then are OK with Trump putting unqualified white men
Republican voters: Believe it or not, I fit here. I am a lifelong Republican voter. They want fiscal conservatism and less government. I have only voted for Dems 3 times, Al Gore, because I believe in his thoughts on climate change, Biden in 2020 and Harris in 2024. I have never voted for Trump as I have never liked him. I find that these people are the ones voting for the economy while holding their nose at Trumps shenanigans. Trump the man and Trump the policies have pushed me into the liberal group though, and I will be voting AOC if she runs in 2028. I expect we will see a similar election result in 2026 that we did after the 1930 tariffs. Dems took 130+ seats in Congress at the next election.
Independents: these people are not committed to any party. They will vote the issues and policies. They are typically the most neutral of voters and they often seek out multiple sources of information before choosing a candidate. This is the group that both parties want to court.
Democrats: The traditional sect of Democrats.
Liberals: the far left of the bunch, nearing Socialism viewpoints. They vote for Dems only because there is no farther left party available to them in the US.
Obviously, this is a generalized list and no one can say 100% why a person voted for who they did. But the study does give an interesting look into the why of Trump voters if you are interested in numbers.
This survey also looks at the race of voters, which has been discussed in this thread previously.

The best solution to our elections, in my opinion, in ranked choice voting. However neither party wants that, so it is not hugely popular. We need more than 2 viable parties in the US.
Of course, this too will pass.
He's 78. Unfortunately younger than me though.

As of the last market close, the S&P was down 16.1%, the Dow was down 13.0% and the Nasdaq was down 21.1% in Trump's second term.
I also want to point out that Biden is the one we should be pointing fingers at actually. He needed to not run for a second term so we could have had a primary. I supported Harris, but that may not have been who I had picked if a primary had happened.
We can also blame Pelosi. She threw Biden under the bus, escalating the drama surrounding Bidens age and inserting more turmoil where it didn't need to be.
Right now, Schumer isn't very popular amongst the Dems either after he voted with Republicans on an important bill recently.
The result, though, is that 2026 is looking like we are going to see a changing of the guards in the Dems. There are some leaders rising up, like AOC and Cory Booker. Even at the state levels, like Pritzker from Illinois. A much younger co-hort too. It is time.
Thank you Casdon. It is frustrating when people minimize what is actually happening.
Yes market fluctuate. This crash, though, was deliberately caused and the person who caused it plans on it continuing for a long time.
We are looking at, at best, a 2008 level recession. If he continues, we could hit Depression era losses.
And the entire thing is avoidable and reversible.
I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like this before imaround, so I’ve been checking the markets. Of course at some point this artificially created position will change again, but Trump needs to move quickly to avoid the ducks being rearranged to avoid his tariffs, he can’t remain at odds with the rest of the world and expect to get his own way.
7 Republicans in Congress have joined the Democrats on a bill that, if passes, will.m severly limit Trumps ability to use tariffs.
I read there is talk between Senate and House to get more House members on board, because ot has to pass there too.
Unfortunately, it has to land on Trumps desk and he will veto it. Then they will have to have a 2/3 vote.
That is where things will get tricky.
^ but Trump needs to move quickly to avoid the ducks being rearranged to avoid his tariffs, he can’t remain at odds with the rest of the world and expect to get his own way.

What do you mean by this?
Fingers crossed that happens, is it likely to be soon do you think?
But he's just continuing to pile on the uncertainty and pressure.
