"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.
The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.
“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”
The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added
"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

As the IDF have asked citizens to go South for their own safety I imagine that most will.
Maremia it’s no good you getting hot under the collar, I don’t rise to it.
He did...he did say that!!!!!
My goodness Oreo, misreading the room again.
If the IDF wishes for the safety of the folk in Gaza, shouldn't they stop bombing wee children in tents?
What did that Tory MP say recently in Parliament? Something about how he always supported Israel, no matter what. But now?
It's actually not only about the survival of the people of Gaza, but what will happen to Israel, and the ones who have taken refuge there, from Europe and beyond, if support starts to fade away?
From today's Jerusalem Post.
"Netanyahu's coalition should take notes from Israel's real leaders: IDF reservists - opinion
The government's continuation of the war without clarifying an end goal is a stain on the country and a slap in the face to reservists
(A section praises the dedication of IDF reservists)
"
But we must stop pretending this is sustainable.
"The most glaring failure remains the government’s refusal to outline and implement a clear plan for Gaza.
Is the war about returning the hostages or eliminating Hamas? Or is it both? If it is about removing Hamas from power, there needs to be a new governing entity in place, but the government refuses to decide"
"It moves between conflicting goals, based on political interest rather than what is right for the nation. As a result, Hamas has managed to rearm, and 59 hostages remain in captivity.
Could this have been handled differently? Almost certainly. Everyone knows that the war cannot end in victory without the hostages’ return and the establishment of a new, stable authority to govern Gaza.
If that is the objective, then we should be building toward it. Instead, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to follow the fantasies of Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, who speak openly about reoccupying and resettling the Gaza Strip"
(It speculates on whether Trump will give an alternative to the ghetto in the south)
"Privately, some IDF officers are hoping he succeeds. Without a political plan, a broader invasion risks just doing more of what has already been tried. More soldiers will be killed, more hostages will die, and whatever sliver of international legitimacy Israel still retains will be gone. We will be right back where we started, except worse"
(it then asks questions about drafting the haredim)

And some people still think that Israel is not committing genocide in order to occupy Gaza! I wonder what it would take to open their eyes to what is happening there.
Sorry that should have gone up without the quote!
‘IDF have asked citizens to move south for their own safety,’. ?
Sounds polite but it’s an order, a demand, for the already homeless to move yet again to the south, where there is no shelter , or food, water or medical help, or much else. Perhaps they may be lucky and get a plastic tent. But unlikely now there is no aid allowed in. At least winter is over. They have no choice, they have to move. Again!
They have been ordered to move from the north to the middle to the south and back again so many times, carrying what they can, on their backs, it’s a long walk. Small scared, scarred children. The old, the ill. Surely we all feel, some compassion for these people. They are not all Hamas, any more than we are all Labour or Tory here.

A miracle indeed.
Thread going as previous thread went
There is real news afoot however. I found out that Hegseth, who was due to go to Israel next week as per furthering Trumps ideas (aid to be delivered to Gaza by US contractors) has cancelled. but I didnt realise the complications, as follows:
jewishbreakingnews
🇺🇸🇮🇱 Pentagon Chief Hegseth Cancels Israel Trip Amid Rumors of U.S.-Israel Tensions
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has unexpectedly canceled a planned visit to Israel, fueling speculation about growing tensions between Washington and Jerusalem under President Donald Trump’s administration.
Hegseth was scheduled to arrive in Israel on May 12, ahead of Trump’s tour of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
It would have been his first official visit as Defense Secretary, with planned meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz to discuss regional security and defense cooperation.
But the trip was suddenly removed from the calendar without public explanation, prompting questions about behind-the-scenes friction between the allies.
The cancellation comes after President Trump announced that the Houthis in Yemen had agreed to halt attacks on U.S. naval assets. In response, Trump suspended U.S. military strikes on the group—reportedly without consulting Israeli leadership. Israeli officials, caught off guard, have expressed concern given Iran’s role in backing the Houthis.
Adding to the strain are reports that the U.S. has softened its earlier position tying Saudi normalization with Israel to progress on a U.S.-Saudi nuclear deal. The prior framework linked defense cooperation with Riyadh to Saudi recognition of Israel.
But Saudi leaders have insisted normalization won’t proceed without significant movement toward Palestinian statehood—an increasingly prominent demand amid the Gaza conflict
These sudden policy shifts have sparked growing concern in Jerusalem and renewed speculation that the once-strong personal rapport between Trump and Netanyahu may be cooling

He gets bored I think, very easily if things don’t go his way.
Israel will still get on with what needs doing, getting rid of hamas and trying to get back the remaining hostages and it will be all the better without Trumps interference or stupid ideas about Casinos.
Agree Oreo such obsession with Trump who is hooked on attention, ‘look at me’
But...... as things stand, Netanyahu had said he would not proceed until consultation with Trump. Just quoting from the O/P
"^The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added^".
Also remember that Trump had proposed that aid then would be provided/channelled via private US contractors. And the funding for aid is currently via the UN and individual countries not Israel or the USA.
It also has admitted it would only cover 60% of the population and the UN has rejected the plan

Trump is not now visiting next week after all. (sources - 2 articles in CNN).
I'm just pointing out matters are more complex.

“According to the poll, 60% of the public thinks Netanyahu should resign as prime minister, compared to 31% who think he should stay in his post and 9% who are unsure. Among coalition voters, 24% think he should resign; among opposition voters,
94% think he should resign.”
“A majority of Israelis say that they do not trust the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to a poll aired Friday on Channel 12, with most of the public also opposed to policy on the hostages and disapproving of the budget passed this week.”

The Atlantic has also quoted the same poll. The Atlantic is one of the media highlighted as being in the "green box" by*Elegran*. B N is certainly very unpopular with most Israelis even in 2022 he got 23% of the vote!

How exactly is that relevant?
Don't worry! I don't expect an answer - you never do!
Saudi isn’t dependant on the US for nuclear technology there are several other countries that could provide that including Russia and China. Linking that to Palestinian statehood seems pretty displaced to me, before any statehood can be considered Hamas has got to be removed - one way or the other.
"Hamas has got to be removed one way or the other" quote David.
As Hamas moves amongst those who are just ordinary citizens that would mean killing every Palestinian - genocide.
