Some extremists in the Israeli government have said they want to cleanse Gaza of all civilians.

Hamas are civilians , not all but possibly many, we don’t know, we saw those strong, healthy men mocking the released hostages ,at the same time we saw malnourished hostages and were told babies were dying from malnutrition

we have read on these threads young Palestinians are joining Hamas because of the war, this said with understanding, yet such criticism of those who join the Israeli army

I have done with Israel.

They are breaking every rule in the book and have apparently no regard for the most vulnerable people in their care (don’t forget that as an occupying force, they are responsible for the populations care). Hamas probably comprises about 20000 or so people, and yet the Israelis have chosen to withdraw water, food and fuel from every single living soul in the blighted piece of land.

I checked out CNN to try and get a US view.

The US is trying to get some kind of diplomacy going, but it seems very weak willed about it. However as regards the immediate situation this was the comment

"One of the officials said that the US wants humanitarian aid to continue flowing into Gaza, something the Israelis acquiesced to on Sunday after blocking aid into the strip for nearly 11 weeks.

Israel “can achieve their objective of defeating Hamas while still allowing aid to enter in sufficient quantities,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday

You have this acute, immediate challenge of food and aid not reaching people, and you have existing distribution systems that could get them there,” Rubio told the Senate Appropriations Committee

Asked if it is an emergency humanitarian situation, Rubio conceded it is.

“Ultimately, I think we all see the same images,” he said.

What is frustrating is that Netanyahu - to satisfy the US? conceded limited aid to Gaza, hence the trucks loaded and ready to go, but hasn't allowed them in.

Yes the trucks went through the palistinian checkpoint on Monday, but but Israel is not allowing them to go any further. Why? . Mothers ( and everyone else) don’t have enough food hence no breast milk and babies are starving, and dying.

I think long term Israel wants total control of food into Gaza so that it can use food as a weapon against the population as and whoever it sees fit. The UN must be allowed to continue as they have done over the last how many decades.

Yes and here is why.

The ICJ was right then and so it has been proven - it has simply gotten worse.

Trucks which have been checked now have to be unloaded and their desperately needed loads put onto other trucks.

This is a deliberate act to 'look' as if aid is being allowed when in reality it isn't. Good way of mentally torturing Palestinians though; 'look aid is here including milk for starving babies, you can see it but can't have it yet'.

only over a year later has France and this country believed it ?

The difference between now and then is the humanitarian situation regarding food, water and other key supplies, as well as changes in military tactics. Thats what has finally tipped the balance of "enough!"

The balance was tipped for you 27th January 2024 but not until

The balance was tipped for me long before May 2025 Annie and I'm ashamed of this country for not speaking up a lot sooner.

I welcome this government's halting of trade talks with Israel and the introduction of sanctions on West Bank settlers, together with the words describing Israel's behaviour as repellent and monstrous.

However, now that the whole of Gaza has been turned into rubble - its housing, businesses, roads, hospitals, schools, etc, etc, what use is this action and these pronouncements? Will Gaza be rebuilt for the benefit of the Palestinian people? I hardly think so. And now aid agencies warn that 14,000 babies may die within 48 hours if aid is not distributed.

anniebach as I believe you have often described yourself as a Christian, I find it shocking that you have spent so much time defending Israel's oft reported "right to defend itself". What has happened in Gaza does not look like defence to me -It looks to me - and many others, including Jewish people - more like opportunism of the most heinous kind - using a terrible event to wage war on an entire population - including the young and the elderly - for the evil acts of a few, with a view to grabbing the land for themselves.

Eloethan I don’t describe myself as a Christian, I am a Christian, sorry you are so shocked, I suggest a dose of Rescue
Remedy. Unlike you I do not speak for many others including
Jewish people . I do not believe Israel is waging war on an
entire population , I do not believe Netanyahu started this war
to prevent him going a court charged with a crime, I do not
believe silence was held for many hours when Hamas was
invading Israel.

I get much criticism because I do not accept all allegations here ,now you join the club

May I ask the question raised here, Anniebach - what could Netanyahu do that would cause you to disagree with him?
For me, not allowing baby milk through to starving infants is a bridge too far.

You don't accept anything that shows Israel in a bad light Annie despite any evidence to the contrary.

I think it’s generally believed that Christians ( other religions available) ) are compassionate and kind, they love their neighbour, take care of those in need, and certainly don’t want little children to suffer. That sort of thing.

I believe that sometimes it's better to accept that I'm never going to change another's opinion and why waste energy. I'm appalled at the loss of life in Gaza and the suffering of Palestinians, nothing would change my mind and I accept that for others it's an acceptable consequence of war. We think differently.

I was merely responding to a post. Apologies if you thought I included you, I did not include your name in my post.
