Israel to "conquer" Gaza

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added

"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

Netanyahu: We will stop if Hamas releases hostages and lays down arms
published at 07:54
07:54
Israel's prime minister has hit back at the joint statement from the UK, France, and Canada.
"By asking Israel to end a defensive war for our survival before Hamas terrorists on our border are destroyed, and by demanding a Palestinian state, the leaders in London, Ottawa and Paris are offering a huge prize for the genocidal attack on Israel on October 7 while inviting more such atrocities," he says.
He adds: "The war can end tomorrow if the remaining hostages are released, Hamas lays down its arms, its murderous leaders are exiled and Gaza is demilitarised.
"No nation can be expected to accept anything less and Israel certainly won't.
"This is a war of civilisation over barbarism. Israel will continue to defend

No calls supporting Israel!

A start at least

Foreign Secretary David Lammy suspends UK-Israel trade negotiations and summons the Israeli ambassador over IDF actions in Gaza, which he says are "incompatible with the principles that underpin our bilateral relations" and an "affront to the values of the British people."

Are the Palestinians, as a whole ‘ barbaric people’ then?

"‘Can you call me back? The tanks are shooting’
published at 14:22 BBC timeline

Alice Cuddy
Reporting from Jerusalem
We have made contact with a woman inside the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza.

In a brief phone call, the woman said: “We are OK. They hit the room we were in, and now the tanks are back. They are shooting crazily", before asking to speak again later.

A loud crash could be heard at the end of the call.
Footage shows bullet holes in a hospital room.
The woman later sent a message to say she was safe but that the "situation is difficult".

Hadiki Habib, chairman of the MER-C Indonesia NGO that built the Indonesian Hospital, said he had also been told by medics inside that bullets had hit the walls of a room they were sheltering in this morning.

As we have reported, the Israeli military says its forces have been targeting “terrorist infrastructure sites” in northern Gaza, including an area adjacent to the Indonesian Hospital.

When approached by the BBC, the Israel Defense Forces said it was "operating in the area of the hospital but not inside of it and we haven't hit it".

It did not comment on the images of the bullet marks.

Netanyahu has a funny idea of what constitutes civilised behaviour.

Well done David Lammy.

More lies Wyllow to seek to justify the unjustifiable.

Well done France, uk, Canada. Well spoken David Lammy. Enough

Talk is cheap Annie from Hamas and Israel.

You don’t question figures released by Hamas,

You don’t question figures released by Hamas,

Do you not believe that people are being killed, having their homes destroyed and dying of starvation?
Why do you continually question the figures?

Smileless2012 Tue 20-May-25 19:49:27

I don't believe everything that comes from Hamas Annie but you never seem to question anything that comes from Israel or condemn anything Israel does.

I suspect the majority of posters are suspicious about information from Hamas. There can be no doubt that people are being killed and children dying of starvation amidst the devastation caused by Israeli bombs.

Most of us are now sadly becoming suspicious about information from the Israeli spokespeople. I heard one on radio 4 this evening insisting the accusation of illegal Settlers and their violence was overstated

Was it a discussion on Theroux documentary?

No. It was an interview with a spokesperson from the Israeli government.

At last, on 5 newspaper front pages out of 7 this morning, the humanitarian situation in Gaza is on the front pages and the UK response. I hope that the UK joins with other countries for an effective response. Pictures heart breaking.

Should Hamas again have free access to aid convoys ?

AGAA4 Wed 21-May-25 10:22:21

I believe Israel are making it difficult for aid to get through. The flour, baby milk etc is now in Palestine and waiting for the go ahead from Israel for it t o be loaded onto trucks waiting to take it to where it's needed. They have been waiting a long time.

Anniebach Wed 21-May-25 10:27:05

So difficult isn’t it, no one wants deaths but feeding Hamas leaves the door open for them to attack Israel.
They have said they want to kill all Jews

Wyllow3 Wed 21-May-25 10:27:39

The UN made a statement on this 4 days ago.

"Mr. Fletcher reiterated that the humanitarian community has done this before and can do it again.

“We know how to get our aid supplies registered, scanned, inspected, loaded, offloaded, inspected again, loaded again, transported, stored, protected from looting, tracked, trucked, monitored and delivered – without diversion, without delay, and with dignity. We know how to reach civilians in desperate need and stave off famine.”

He concluded the statement by saying “Enough. We demand rapid, safe, and unimpeded aid delivery for civilians in need. Let us work.”

news.un.org/en/story/2025/05/1163391

There are 5 lorries, full of food and other supplies, waiting to go, and are not bing allowed to go through. Thats a drop in the ocean, why isnt the regime letting them through?

Some extremists in the Israeli government have said they want to cleanse Gaza of all civilians.

If you don't want deaths there is no choice, let the supplies through. The UN has said it can distribute them effectively.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 21-May-25 10:41:21

How the hell does baby milk feed Hamas.

I have done with Israel.

They are breaking every rule in the book and have apparently no regard for the most vulnerable people in their care (don’t forget that as an occupying force, they are responsible for the populations care). Hamas probably comprises about 20000 or so people, and yet the Israelis have chosen to withdraw water, food and fuel from every single living soul in the blighted piece of land.

History will never forget this.
