The points made by foxie48 are those that influenced me to watch Settlers. I’ve read about many American ultra orthodox settlers who are increasing in numbers as well as in their determination to rid Gaza of Palestinians.
They share the belief that they have a god given right to the land and that “the arabs” have none. Their disgusting bigoted views about Arab people are so deeply held and their influence on Netenyahu so great, peace seems a dream
Since its creation in December 1987, Hamas has invoked militant interpretations of Islam to spearhead a Sunni extremist movement committed to destroying Israel. Hamas distanced itself from the longstanding Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)—an umbrella organization for disparate Palestinian factions that ranged from Marxist to secular nationalists—by propagating resistance in the religious context of jihad, or a holy struggle and martyrdom. “Jihad is its path and death for the sake of Allah is the loftiest of its wishes,” Hamas said in its first statement in the late 1980s. Predominantly Shiite Iran has armed, trained and funded Hamas since the late 1980s largely due to its opposition to Israel and Islamic ideology.
Formed in 1987, won election to govern Gaza in 2007

Israel to "conquer" Gaza
(1001 Posts)"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.
The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.
“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”
The plan would be implemented after US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East next week to “provide a window of opportunity” for a hostage deal, the official added
"The plan then, is to displace Gaza’s entire population to the south of the enclave, following which the total the blockade of humanitarian aid may be lifted, the official said, adding that the military “will remain in every area it captures.”"

Just like most media they have a biased agenda on many subjects, usually to make news more “dramatic”.
Whether you like that bias depends on your personal opinion of any situation, in the case of Gaza the bias is massively pro Hamas, repeating Hamas propaganda many times.

Gosh, that is quite a biased opinion david
No election till October 2026. A lot of damage could be caused and lives lost till then.
There was an election in 2022, yet it has been said here there was to be an election in 2024 but Netanyahu stopped it,

He should have called an election last year (?) and failed to do so because he knows that he will lose. He uses the excuse of perpetual war.
Netanyahu also awaits trial for corruption.
“Whitewave* please explain or give a link to the above,
term of office is 4 years, he won in 2022, thanks
Gantz called for an early election in 2024 on the basis that the Netanyahu government was held together with a coalition of minority groups that few Israelis had actually voted for. Israelis had been out on the street demanding an election and polls showed that Netanyahu would almost certainly lose control of the government. I think WWM might be thinking of that.
I have posted a link that explains the voting in the 2022 election, it's far too complex to paraphrase quickly and easily but is worth reading if you want to understand why many people might feel there should be an early election.

Netanyahu refused ?
Read, thank you, so no dirty dealings,
Freya 5 - I would think the hostages are dead now for quite a while. Zionists have been perpetrating atrocities on Palestinians and the British (which is why we left) since they decided they wanted the land in the early 1900s.
This is a very shameful episode in the history of humanity.
I've read it and it shows the sheer complexities and breadth of opinion. Whether it represents the majority will of the people now is difficult one. There must be a whole range of view, some who support occupation of all Palestinian Territories to those opposed to expansion as they dont see it bringing peace.
Every week at the moment -information here from the Jerusalem Post - there are tens of thousands in Tel Aviv and other cities demonstrating because they feel the government is not interested in cease fire/hostage negotiations and they want a change in regime.

Amongst the demonstrators were former hostages

But clearly many support expansionism. I don't know more than anyone else how this can be resolved within Israel.
Meanwhile, Hamas has refused to engage in negotiations until the blockade on aid is ended and the threats of full occupation described in the O/P withdrawn. Why should a whole population accept a ghetto? There isn't a mechanism for the Palestinian voices who have had enough of Hamas and clearly fear to speak up. Their voices are valid too, but how to make them known?
Now Trump is to be involved again and it seems that his view will be congruent with the announced plans? I cant see any different.
I wish I had answers to these issues.
If they are dead Hamas allows families to keep hoping

Netanyahu and Trump are saying respectively that 24 and 21 hostages are still alive. Is this real information or a gambit? Guesses or back channels?
all heartbreaking.
Hamas could speak ?
There are large demonstrations planned this Saturday 10th May in several venues in the UK and I expect in other countries, also for silent vigils calling for ceasefire

It’s a fact not an opinion. The BBC won’t even call hamas a terrorist organisation, even after the terrible events of Oct 7th.
The BBC have also had to pull certain programmes over hamas biased footage.

More pro Palestinian vandalism of statues I expect, along with antisemitic chanting and slogans. What a waste of police time.

I suspect both sides aren't "speaking" for their own reasons.
Speaking takes place runs a table or with negotiators and the latest announcements preclude negotiations? One can only hope but is Trump going in as peacemaker or enforcer?

I sincerely hope not, since it's completely counter productive. Unfortunately a minority tries to grab publicity and those wanting a peaceful resolution get tarred with the same brush.
But now the issue has come to the point where a ghetto is planned and UK people have a right to have a voice.

Blow up the Israeli Embassy ?
I think most of the protesters want what many of us on GN want and that is an end to the killing and suffering. For the Israeli families to have their loved ones back. For the Palestinians to have aid getting through and most of all to have an end to this terrible war.
Yes, but what of Hamas ? seems they are of no importance
And the media to include those voices too not just look for any shock horror type headlines.
Amos Goldberg an Israeli Professor of Holocaust Studies, with 30 years of research and teaching experience in the subject of 'Holocaust, genocide and state violence' tells us that what is happening in Gaza just now is a genocide. He goes on to say that right now we have mass denial in Israel and around the world.
You can catch his full statement on the Led By Donkeys video, to be found on Facebook.
AGAA4 yes, and such a poignant thought, as we celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
