I like Boris as he did a lot to help people in the pandemic eg eat out to help out, furlough, people allowed to bond with one other person etc. Not all other countries did this.

Ultimately he helped the very rich. Why would you expect anything else? £450 billion was printed and poured into the economy. That's £10,000 per UK adult. Were you £10,000 richer than you were at the start of the crisis. If not, who had your £10,000?

All of the data, including data from the Bank of England, showed that there has been a huge increase in the cash savings of individuals during the Covid crisis. This was predictable, a certainty once the government and central bank decided to inject £450 billion into the economy. The data showed that this money largely went to the bank accounts of wealthier individuals.

The inevitable reality was an economy that became deplorably weak for working people while house and stock prices continue to balloon followed by a bonanza for the richest while the poorest struggle to find work.

I can't imagine anyone now thinks this was a good idea.

If it wasn’t for furlough, many businesses not classed as essential would have folded, 1,000’s of people would have been added to the unemployment numbers.

Of course people saved, they couldn’t go out and spend their money on transport to and from work, they were not spending on social activities, haircuts, beauty treatments, holidays etc.,

What do you suggest the government should have done?

Her rating has fallen to zero because Tories don't understand negative numbers despite her negativity!

The Opposition is always negative about and to the government of the day, it’s kinda their job!
I don’t rate Badenoch tho she does get some hits in at PMQ’s.
They need a new leader in about a year and will have to do some sort of deal at the next GE or will lose bigtime.

The two party system is finished. Support for what people call the minor parties is now at 60%. Only diehards now identify as Conservative ot Labour. To me, this is good, as voters can now vote for other parties, confident they will do well.
I wouldn't touch Labour or the Tories with a barge pole now. Both have failed this country and have nothing to offer.

Barring Truss easily the worst PM the UK has had, nevertheless I don’t believe any other leader would have achieved any more during Covid.

It’s his downright dishonesty before and during the Brexit period that I condemn him, he poisoned the entire Tory party and it could well be we never see another Tory government. I do not look forward to Reform having serious influence on national politics.

I can remember listening to Johnson blatantly lying in parliament and wondering how on earth he was getting away with it. Thankfully eventually he didn’t. But the damage to his own party had already been done.

Still no reason to vote for total unknown loose cannon parties like Reform though imo.

It's really impossible to predict as far as the next election.

Whilst Trump turns the world upside down with continual tariff and profound foreign policy changes, and the effect of the Ukraine war means revising defence and security matters as well as energy costs, there are factors at play now that haven't been for a very long time and "unknowns" ahead. Starmer has made mistakes as far as I am concerned but he is steering us through international matters very steadily.

But probably these don't factor in when you try to decide who to vote for on your local council. Reforms foreign policy, hostile to the EU and favouring the US, are not congruent with what will most help the UK but how do most people who don't follow international news going to factor this in? Especially as they are told daily day after day by a section of the media what rubbish Starmer is even when he's done really good things.

Agree totally, Wyllow. The Reform Party isn't a party, of course, and the calibre of the councillors is a little... patchy, to say the least.
I was saddened that they took Kent County Council but look forward to them actually working out how to run a County ( most of them have absolutely no experience) and how to make budgets and rhetoric work together. Much if the Reform talk is uncosted, unconstitutional, and unmanageable.
Watch this space.

Nigel Farage is so like Trump in his ways. He is not, nor does he want to be, an elected leader, he wants to dictate. I have no doubt that, just like Trump, he will go back on his promises to those that vote for him.

I think there is also some of this in KB; I've thought this ever since I watched her give evidence at the Post Office hearings.

Farage seems to have the personality that cons some, just as (unbelievably to me) Trump does. I don't think KB does.

But that - other than the evidence of her thinking at the Post Office Enquiry - is just an opinion. Just as Trump is now being challenged in court daily I hope anyone attempting to con voters is one day brought to legal account. That may or may not include KB. That is something I definitely don't know.

Bear in mind, the SNP, Lib Dems and Greens have seen their support increase, and this is probably more worrying to Labour. I wasn't specifically mentioning Reform, just saying the majority of voters are moving on from the old two parties. Also turnout at the last election and at local elections suggests there are large numbers of don't care people.

The big problem is, that any suggestions now will be made with the benefit of hindsight.
Maybe PN feels it would have been better to let businesses fold. Maybe PN has hidden knowledge of how the jobs would have reappeared again.
Certainly, if businesses had folded, the rich would have got richer because they would have been able to buy up all the property that people out of work, or having lost their businesses would not have been able to pay their mortgages on.
