this continues an ongoing thread on Gaza

The O/P read (in part)

"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the population of Gaza will be displaced to the south after his security cabinet approved an expanded military operation in the enclave that a minister described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

The vote on Sunday came hours after the military said it would mobilize tens of thousands of reservists, strengthening its capacity to operate in the besieged Palestinian territory.

“One thing will be clear: there will be no in-and-out,” Netanyahu said in a Monday video message posted on X. “We’ll call up reserves to come, hold territory — we’re not going to enter and then exit the area, only to carry out raids afterward. That’s not the plan. The intention is the opposite.”

We now have the aid crisis at the focus of world wide attention.

Can you point to a post of mine that indicates that Israel should not exist?

What the extreme settlers are doing is illegal.

Do you agree that the Arabs who are being violently removed from their homes and livelihoods, are entitled to live on their land in peace?

Yes, you said Israel had thieved land from the Arabs.
I have already said in many posts that I don’t agree with the settlers taking land in the West Bank.
You must remember that for so many years now Israel has been attacked with missiles and had suicide bombers and hombs left in cafes constantly as part of life from extremists in surrounding countries.

Bombs!

Iam64 Wed 02-Jul-25 19:34:42

Oreo - I struggle to understand why the polarisation on Gaza - Israel feels so difficukt then - I see footage of starving children and the bomb sites that were their homes

Listening to the Settlers dehumanise Palestinians, describe them as less than human etc etc nudges me into understanding -it feels increasingly awful

Oreo Wed 02-Jul-25 21:36:51

Those settlers are incredibly right wing and are taking advantage of the situation at the moment.
It’s plain wrong.
Gaza is more complicated. It’s coming to the time now for a ceasefire and even maybe an end of it all.We shall see.

I watched the Doctors in Gaza documentary last night on C4.

I would like to applaud C4 for showing it.

One day we will look back on the events in Gaza and Israel as a shameful moment in human history.

I think that the appalling thing is that the majority of people are outraged by what is happening, but we seem paralysed into doing anything.

You do say some weird stuff. What on earth gives you that idea?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 03-Jul-25 09:04:06

I see that the IDF bombing the sea front cafe is considered a war crime.

Starvation, malnutrition , yet cafes open

Israeli settlers with Israeli government agreement have been taking land by force in the West Bank for decades. So it’s not just ‘at the moment’.

Have you ever had a heart?

Parsley3 Thu 03-Jul-25 09:28:50

It's not open now , is it? I am bemused that anyone would think that the news coming out of Gaza must be false because there was still a pocket of normal life to be found.

silverlining48 Thu 03-Jul-25 09:29:14

I am away this week so hope I can watch the Doctors in Gaza documentary on catch up.

True.

I meant a metaphorical ‘moment’.

Maremia Thu 03-Jul-25 09:34:42

Okay, for anyone planning to watch the Doctors in Gaza documentary, be aware that it shows much of the horror of what is happening to the people of Gaza. I haven't seen it yet, but have read the Guardian's comment.
Yes, I know, easier for us to watch than actually go through it.

silverlining48 Thu 03-Jul-25 09:35:24

Lizzie it’s ok, I was responding to Oreo’s ‘at the moment’ comment not yours.

Grantanow Thu 03-Jul-25 09:38:57

It's interesting how many posts Gaza generates comoared with other topics when polling shows it's very low down in most people's concerns - well below the NHS, cost of living, defence, immigration, housing, etc.

LizzieDrip Thu 03-Jul-25 09:39:19

No problem silverlining.

You were responding but without much information.Different governments in Israel have acted in different ways to settler land grabs and violence in the West Bank.

Very true.

silverlining48 Thu 03-Jul-25 09:47:35

I have watched the many distressing documentaries on the subject and will watch when I get home, but feel everyone should watch, hard though it is, especially those who support Israel without apparent criticism.
When our children and grandchildren ask why the world stood by without doing anything while genocide was going on in front of our eyes, their criticism will be hard to hear.

Maremia Thu 03-Jul-25 09:49:17

I will put on my 'big girl pants' and try to watch it.
