Prosecutors in the UK have confirmed for the first time they have authorised 21 charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate, including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking.
Until now charges were only issued in Romania.
The brothers hold UK/US citizenship and are currently in Romania. they had been in the USA but returned to Romania in March.
The CPS's charging decision came after it received a file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police about allegations made in the UK.
The CPS said Andrew Tate, a 38-year-old influencer and former kickboxer, faces 10 charges connected to three alleged victims, including rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain.
Tristan Tate, 36, faces 11 charges connected to one alleged victim, including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking.
But the CPS said "the domestic criminal matters in Romania must be settled first'
(The pair were both born in the US but moved to Luton in the UK with their mother after their parents divorced.
In recent years, Andrew Tate has built an massive online presence, including more than 10 million followers on X, formerly Twitter, sharing his lifestyle of fast cars, private jets, and yachts.
He and his brother were first arrested in Romania in December 2022, with Andrew accused of rape and human trafficking and Tristan suspected of human trafficking.
They both denied the charges and spent several months under house arrest).
A year later, in August 2024, they faced new allegations including sex with a minor and trafficking underage persons, all of which they deny.
When will justice catch up with them at last?

UK prosecutors say 21 charges authorised against Tate brothers
(49 Posts)CNN reports that the Tate Brothers promote the "red Pill" culture.

I hope they are put away and the key is lost and no connections with ANY phones or social media
I'm in no doubt that the Trump administration was protecting them to some extent.
It pressured Romania to release the brothers from Romania for a period in the US. (BBC)
However......once in the USA, "Florida's state attorney-general launched a criminal inquiry into the brothers, welcomed by the US National Centre on Sexual Exploitation, which represents one of Tate's alleged victims" (BBC and CNN)
so they hot tailed it back to Romania...
And until recently Farage ( who the news media are saying will be the next PM of this country) was praising him….
They should both be locked away for a very long time.
That news hasn’t reached us. Trump seems to get involved with all sorts of strange issues which don’t seem to be anything to do with him. He wants to look after the US and dump Europe etc. so he should just butt out of everyone else’s affairs. He can’t have it both ways.
Couldn't happen to a better pair of chaps. I sincerely hope that the prosecutions are successful and their vile views and behaviours are shown to be criminal as well as toxic.
Serial abusers, so dangerous in the way they appear to influence some young men with their misogynistic outpourings. Awful pair.
It feels like one step forward, three steps back so far as women’s rights and safety. Men like these two normalise abuse and derogatory treatment of women, including their ‘girl friends’. Dangerous sexual practices that demean women alongside the ‘I own you’ attitude.
The internet allows them to spread their poison to vulnerable adolescents. Sorry, I’m moaning on rather than coming up with any hopeful solutions. We have to hope our parents/families, schools etc can provide better role models and treat men like these with contempt.
That is one of the solutions Iam64, 'provide better role models'.

Do you read MN? It is astounding and shocking to read when a member asks is this behaviour normal, should I accept this

I agree
I agree too. I think schools and colleges have t start to be more realistic on how young people are being exposed to this kind of content and how we can educate them effectively as to how and why it is wrong. Unfortunately lot of young people do not have effective education from their parents with regards to misogyny and male on female violence, in some cases it is normalised. How we go about this I don't know
Porn is a massive problem.
What to do? I think it's proper for our Online Safety Laws to address the output of the Tate Brothers if we can. We do have laws about hate and violence in this respect.
In March Starmer and Badenoch addressed the issue (and I'm sure most smaller parties felt the same) - it became highlighted when the drama "Obsession" came out on TV.
Badenoch for example said " My views about the dangers of social media are not just about children. I know even as adults we can get dangerously addicted." Starmer met the producers and highlighted the dangers. of SM on these points. The producers then agreed to make viewing free in all schools.
And of course if the Tate brothers came to this country they now could be charged possibly imprisoned now the CPS has made it clear.
I cant understand whats going on in Romania, the brothers have to attend the police station once a week but why not charged and tried? I've not been able to find an answer. They follow EU laws on SM hate crimes.
I do agree with both your posts JudgeJane, I'd like to think sex education would come with the message to girls 'never be pressurised, never submit to anything you feel uncomfortable with, respect your body' I read somewhere, not sure where, sex education lessons were including "how to strangle safely and instructions about anal sex"Noooo! porn is driving such practices along making women victims

Yes I do sometimes read mumsnet. I read the Macron discussion yesterday and was pleased to see the majority saw the incident as serious and unlikely to be isolated.
Then you get posts as you say, describing abusive behaviour the poster has been going along with, ‘love’ and ‘everyone else does it’.
Yes it is always porn.
It’s so destructive and becoming normalised. When I started work with women and children exploited and abused, filmed being abused, accessing the film of photographs was difficult. It must have hindered the progression of the abusive men as more ‘bland’ images didn’t satisfy their perverted needs.
Calling the making of ‘adult movies’ sex work tried to legitimise abuse and exploitation. I feel the same about ‘sex work’, so often sanitised by movie/tv dramas.
I’m pleased Starmer and ministers continue to focus on safety for women and girls (children) but it feels a huge task

I did look this up and found numerous references and complaints about gender education (around 2 years ago on GB and other sources but not such practices). I might be wrong of course but I suspect that it might have been raised by a student (trying to stir it?) and a teacher have to deal with it.
But it's precisely the kind of practice the Tate brothers put out there so some teenager at home may well have come across it and talked about it at school?
I have put what is it like for women in Romania and why weren't the tate brothers charged with rape in Romania and it has given me two really good explanations but I don't know if you want me to post them
sorry I put it into chatGPT
I'm going to cut and paste the one as it is quite useful.
The Tate brothers, Andrew and Tristan, were not initially charged with rape in Romania due to significant legal challenges that undermined the prosecution's case.
In 2024, a Romanian appeals court identified several flaws in the case against them. Key evidence, including witness statements from two alleged victims and the brothers' own statements, was deemed inadmissible. Additionally, the court found that prosecutors had failed to properly explain the charges to one alleged victim and had not adequately presented charges against two female suspects. The indictment also lacked specifics regarding seized assets, further weakening the case .
The Guardian
Despite these setbacks, the Romanian authorities have not dropped the charges. The case remains open, and the brothers are still under investigation for human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to exploit women. They deny all allegations and have appealed the court's decision to proceed with the case .
In contrast, the brothers now face 21 criminal charges in the UK, including rape, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution. These charges stem from a Bedfordshire police investigation into allegations from 2012 to 2015. A European arrest warrant was issued in 2024, leading to their extradition orders. However, Romanian courts ruled that their local legal matters must be resolved before extradition can proceed .
In summary, the lack of sufficient and admissible evidence in Romania led to the absence of rape charges there. Nevertheless, the case remains active, and the brothers continue to face serious legal challenges both in Romania and the UK.
Thank you Jane I get the picture in Romania now. They clearly can afford top lawyers to prolong what was an initial inadequate prosecution case.
They are hugely wealthy. This Sky article shows just how. I can see how the seized assets came up and they've fought this in court too. Hackers working against him found out who was buying their material online.
