Israel attack on Iran

This is a serious situation. Netanyahu has gone against advice from the US and has attacked Iran.
Iran will retaliate and Israel has closed down today waiting for the attack.
Although the US has distanced itself from this only warning Iran not to target US bases it's inevitable that they may get pulled into this war.

Where does the very wealthy Saudi Arabia sit in all this?
Israel is right to poke the bear - it might save countless lives. Iran can’t be trusted to develop nuclear weapons. It’s a bit weird that more countries are not singing from the same page.

Antisemitism is moral and just !

Of course it isn’t Annie, as you well know.

But surely you cannot support Netunyahu in this action?

I don’t wish to see a further fatalities, of any faith or nationality killed!

I don’t support wars, terrorism or Hamas, Iran or Iraq.

I support peace!

Saudi would love to see Shia Iran change to a peaceful neighbour, the Houthis in Yemen have been fighting them for many years funded by Iran but will stay neutral in any hostility

It's a very volatile situation and if the US becomes involved for Israel would there be another powerful country aiding Iran.

ronib Fri 13-Jun-25 11:08:16

China and Russia are firm allies of Iran …. Too late to change that?

Oh stop it, Annie, please, just stop this. It has NOTHING but absolutely NOTHING to do with antisemitism.

Netanyahu, more than anyone at the moment, not even Russia or Trump - is threatening to start WW3.

Claremont Fri 13-Jun-25 11:27:53

Annie asked 'Which country will be first for the bomb ?'

well, this is clear- Israel has just bombed Iran.

ronib Fri 13-Jun-25 11:29:46

Claremount not with a nuclear bomb…
But then you approve of Iran having nuclear weapons? You agree?

Maremia Fri 13-Jun-25 11:36:00

Don't be ridiculous ronib, don't think anyone on here just now wants a nuclear war.

AGAA4 Fri 13-Jun-25 11:36:43

I don't think many agree with Iran having nuclear weapons but Israel could cause another war that would drag in other reluctant countries and cause mass devastation.

Claremont Fri 13-Jun-25 11:40:51

I disagree with all nuclear weapons. In the 70s and 80s, I was very active in trying to explain that nuclear proliferation would be a disaster, and the MAD was just a short term fix that would break down when one or two (or more) power hungry mad men got involved. And until smaller so called 'tactical' nuclear weapons were created, as for now- which give the massively dangerous illusion that a limited, targetted, nuclear attack is survivable.

Attacking Iran is a diabolical act of aggression from Israel that puts the whole world at risk, and Israel and its inhabitants, as well as Palestine and the whole Middle-East, at massive risk. The whole world indeed. There is NO EXCUSE for this attack- the consequences of which could be diabolically dire.

Israel attacked first, with the first bombs. The rest ?????

ronib Fri 13-Jun-25 11:41:26

I think this whole discussion is ridiculous.

ronib Fri 13-Jun-25 11:42:50

To be clear Iran is building nuclear weapons.

Maremia Fri 13-Jun-25 11:44:10

It's not ridiculous to be concerned about a nuclear war.

Galaxy Fri 13-Jun-25 11:44:29

I think this whole discussion is ridiculous.

I don't understand why you are still posting. Seems pointless if you don't like the discussion.

Maremia Fri 13-Jun-25 11:44:55

And the USA was on a political mission just now to deal with that.

Galaxy Fri 13-Jun-25 11:45:11

Whoops.
I will be grateful to Israel if they stop Iran in terms of production of nuclear weapons.

Maremia Fri 13-Jun-25 11:47:45

Skipped over to CNN just now, 'Trump didn't want Israel to strike. They did it anyway.'

AGAA4 Fri 13-Jun-25 11:49:25

There are many countries with nuclear weapons. Israel may have just caused a much more dangerous situation.

ronib Fri 13-Jun-25 12:04:25

Well good if Israel has escalated the problem. It hasn’t been resolved or dealt with in any sensible way by either the Uk or USA so good on Israel. It can’t continue as it has done.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 13-Jun-25 12:07:09

It seems to me that lessons need to be seriously learned from history right up to today.

The Jews were “gifted” Israel by the world during the early part of last century, and done so without the majority of the population’s consent.

The Second World War and it’s horrors brought fresh impetus to the idea of an Israeli state.

Israel declared itself a state in 1948. And has been to a large extent at war ever since.

The lesson has to be that nothing good can ever come from forcibly taking land from people who lived on it for centuries and in the normal way would be seen to be the rightful owners.

I am afraid that Israel will never be at peace. It has disastrously become a military state at war with its all neighbours to a greater or lesser extent. I am sure that the original Jewish settlers never, in their worst nightmares envisaged such a future for themselves.

I am also sure that if the world had been able to look into the future it would have hesitated over casting out people who lived in the area that is now Israel and given the whole thing much more thought.

This is a very simplistic overview, but I put it out there as an argument.

Whenever is somebody going to say STOP! What is happening to our beautiful world! It is full of hatred and mad men.

It will be even fuller of hate and destruction if Iran were to go on unchecked where nuclear capabilities are concerned.
The UN say Iran has ignored warnings for the first time in 20 years.
Iran simply cannot be allowed these weapons, simple as that.

Oreo Fri 13-Jun-25 12:14:41

If Israel wasn’t surrounded by enemies, terror groups in several countries all funded by Iran and all wanting to attack Jews, then there wouldn’t be any need for wars and all those countries including Israel could live in peace.
