Oh Lordy, what now …this is scary news and now what happens..

lafergar Mon 23-Jun-25 19:27:32

A complete madman in charge, Trump.

It's terrifying.

which makes the idea of proliferation and those who 'deserve the nuclear bomb as goodies, and 'those who do not because they are baddies' - just scrarily nonsensical.

Why should Israel have the bomb, which they have produced totally illegally ad no threaten most of the middle east with. Or China, or Russia.

And if countries can be bombed without Government consultation or Nato consultation, in a totally illegal preemptive strike - which could lead to the use of such mass destruction weapons on civilian populations, then what next.

China could say, we can bomb Taiwan or Hong Kong. Same for many other conflicts.

The development of smaller tactical and targetted weapons makes this even more likely- with some getting the crazy and dangerous idea that we could have just a small limited nuclear attack and not necessarily MAD.

Proliferation and smaller tactical weapons make this so much more likely.

It seems to me that what has happened over the past couple of days is stage managed warfare. Done in such a way that no civilians or military personnel are killed. So that both parties can appear strong and not lose face. At the same time using warfare that has cost millions of pounds at a time when people are starving. Wouldn’t surprise me if both sides were warned in advance of what was going to happen.

I think that you absolutely right.

I don't know how possible it is to not harm anybody?

Sorry, I just feel utter despair. Think I'll try to take a day or two away from the internet.

They just said that Qatar had been given prior warning so my gut feeling was right....

The Irish used to give warnings too back in the day. It didn't stop people being killed and certainly wasn't stage managed. Whilst Iran's attacks against the USA's assets may be trying to save face by retaliation without triggering further attacks by the USA, they'll be the only ones stage managing. I don't think Trump will sit quietly by whilst they do this and even if he doesn't go back at Iran now, it won't take much to trigger more warfare.

Has this given a "Green Light" to China to invade Taiwan?

Allira Mon 23-Jun-25 22:00:03

Oh, I do hope not, while the world is distracted. A friend is from there, all her family is there still.

Mt61 Tue 24-Jun-25 00:22:06

If that is true nansnanny, then they are totally complicit. What did they expect would happen.
I don’t think the president, thought lightly about dropping these bombs, after all he will have a war cabinet guiding him- I know it comes down to his decision in the end. I wish something could have been worked out before dropping the dam things.
I hope we as Britain don’t get dragged into it, after all we can’t even keep the airbases safe here. Incidentally, these people should be tried for terrorism, for causing millions of pounds of damage. That’s if they can catch them.

I thought China had just threatened Iran?

OldFrill Tue 24-Jun-25 00:29:35

Re Trump Truth Social - abridged version -
All's well, all's forgiven, Iran and Israel having a ceasefire and everyone's friends.

Iran and Israel haven't, as far as l know, responded.

Thinking of you Mt61, this is so hard for those who have family in the region, or indeed far away.

Thanks Claremont- heard from them tonight, all safe 🙏 I think it was a “tit, for tat” thing going on. Main thing, no body was hurt as far as I know.

Bea65 Tue 24-Jun-25 01:57:43

Iran confirms they have agreed to ceasefire with Israel …🙏

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Jun-25 02:43:30

If Israel agrees - and that is the sticking point - then we are back from the brink

Over to you Netanyahu.

He won’t like that though.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Jun-25 02:47:12

Must say the situation is very confused.

Anniebach Tue 24-Jun-25 03:53:11

This thread is very confusing , two old men causing mayhem,
Churchill stood down as PM age 80 .

How, exactly, is Iran able to retaliate? Why is the situation so worrying? I don't quite get it.

If Trump has incapacitated any nuclear weapons the Iranians might have had, what have they got left? Some missiles which might not have the ability to reach America?

Please somebody explain why the situation is so dangerous.

Because The Tangerine Toddler has access to and probably has his finger on the button of nuclear weapons. Do you really want WW3. The man is a danger to the rest of the world and a lot of US citizens can't see further than the ends of their noses.

nanna8 Tue 24-Jun-25 06:41:28

I don’t like Trump anymore than some of the world’s other leaders but I think referring to him as a tangerine toddler is just plain rude and says more about the writer than the one written about. The US is the only country in the world that has actually used nuclear bombs and that is what worries me the most - they have a history of obliterating places, not just once, but twice. Dangerous situation.

PamelaJ1 Tue 24-Jun-25 07:23:24

nanna8 have you read the book ‘OnThe Beach’? It made a huge impression on me when I was about 15 and now I look at what is going on and hope Mr. Shute didn’t have a crystal ball.

Looks like mission accomplished by Israel and the US 😃

Are you thinking about what happens next Oreo? What will the outcome of this craziness be?

fancythat Tue 24-Jun-25 08:40:36

What and who is to stop Trump doing what he pleases?

I am not at all getting the role of the Republicans in the US currently.

You have no idea!

ronib Tue 24-Jun-25 08:44:58

Given the deep theological differences between Israel and Iran, and embedded hatred, has the fight been suspended for a while only to start up again? Iran will continue its pursuit of nuclear weapons and the USA will always have the capacity to out bomb. And so it continues.
