Is Mister Trump Surgically Welded To That Baseball Cap?

He gave a press conference (selected and favoured journalists only) on Iran wearing that MAGA baseball cap - again. Not a look that lends gravity and dignity to the so-called Leader Of The Free World.

And Mister Trump doesn't look as if he's played baseball in many a long year, if ever.

It keeps his very thin, Shredded Wheat-looking hair still grin. He's a very powerful billionaire, he doesn't give a toss about what people think.

“Love home or loathe him at least when he makes a decision he see it through”

I’m not sure why you think that’s necessarily a good thing. If I promise to do a dump on your doorstep, and I then follow through by doing a dump on your doorstep, will you praise me?

Besides, following through on a decision could be disastrous if it’s an impulsive, bad decision. That attitude sounds like his MAGA supporters commending him for “always speaking his mind”. What’s actually on his mind would often be much better left where it was!

Well he doesn’t actually. Because he then back tracks on things, after causing as much damage as possible ( and getting himself into the forefront of the days news).

BBC News - Nato boss commends 'daddy' Trump's handling of Israel-Iran conflict - BBC News
www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/c1e0nnx60q6o
Have world politics really descended to this level of childish dialogue? How much more humiliated do world leaders need to be to accept Trump being called daddy?

Nato's secretary-general Mark Rutte appeared to approve of the language previously used by the US president about Israel and Iran.
During a press briefing in the Netherlands, Rutte and Trump discussed the conflict between the two countries.
Referencing Trump's use of an expletive on Tuesday, Rutte said: "And then daddy has to sometimes use strong language."

'Whataboutery'.

There's plenty to discuss about Starmer, but this thread is about Trump who is, arguably, the most powerful politician in the world. Unlike Starmer.

There's little to be gained from comparing the two.

Tariffs, a possible war scenario, and the abuse of executive power - these are global matters.

Well Iran seems to have quietened down for a few weeks, so the war scenario is on hold, plus tariffs - if they work for the USA why not? Abuse of executive power - I don’t think so as probably covered under stealth or some category to allow presidential action as opposed to inertia.

Love him or loathe him (and I belong to the latter persuasion), it’s President Trump.

And he is * Sir Keir Starmer*

Is common courtesy dead these days?

Not that many people are into titles these days - we’re supposed to be living in a meritocracy. It’s a bit last century?

RosieandherMaw Fri 27-Jun-25 14:32:48

You may think so, how does that preclude a title such as President - an elected office. Does that breach meritocracy rules?

PS ask Sir David Beckham, Sir Gareth Southgate , Dame Judi Dench et al how they feel they might “merit” or otherwise their title?

I doubt very much that any of these people are able to be questioned by Joe Public …. Well protected from the great unwashed RosieandherMaw

You may think so, I couldn’t possibly comment.

Really?

You don't know who knows whom or whose DH might be a Sir on Gransnet (hence the Gransnetter could have the courtesy title of 'Lady' eg Lady Jones). There may be a few Dames amongst us too!

ronib Fri 27-Jun-25 15:51:37

Quite right I don’t know…. Although of course hasn’t changed my opinion that it is very much an anachronism…. And the titled individuals I have known in the past had their problems too ….. Allira

Allira Fri 27-Jun-25 15:58:28

Sorry, I am all for titles if they mean honouring the hard work people do on behalf of others.

Allira Fri 27-Jun-25 15:59:17

Yes, those three people (and others) certainly had their problems.

ronib Fri 27-Jun-25 16:02:42

Some people lead extraordinary without honours.

So you don't think those three people deserve their honours?

🤔

ronib Fri 27-Jun-25 17:06:25

I am not the person to ask about individual cases….Allira … I don’t think my neighbour deserves hers come to think of it but since when has that mattered?
