Is Mister Trump Surgically Welded To That Baseball Cap?

He gave a press conference (selected and favoured journalists only) on Iran wearing that MAGA baseball cap - again. Not a look that lends gravity and dignity to the so-called Leader Of The Free World.

And Mister Trump doesn't look as if he's played baseball in many a long year, if ever.

IOMGran I don’t think that I understand you- who has been rounding up people dressed as a paramilitary soldier? I honestly am surprised that Trump might, if the world is really lucky, have achieved more than Starmer and Lammy from the UK in brokering some kind of ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Can you not just be glad?

He often wears it to connect to his followers I think, in the same way that Harold Wilson often appeared in pics holding a pipe or with it in his mouth, when in reality he was a cigar smoker.Or Boris with wild ruffled hair and ill fitting suits to appear to be a man of the people, or Farage holding a pint when he isn’t a beer drinker.

“The 1964–1970 Labour government carried out a broad range of reforms during its time in office, in such areas as social security,[34] civil liberties,[35] housing,[36] health,[37] education,[38] and worker's rights.[39]

It is perhaps best remembered for the liberal social reforms introduced or supported by Home Secretary Roy Jenkins. Notable amongst these was the partial decriminalisation of male homosexuality and abortion, reform of divorce laws, the abolition of theatre censorship and capital punishment (except for a small number of offences — notably high treason) and various pieces of legislation addressing race relations and racial discrimination.[40]

His government also undertook the easing of means testing for non-contributory welfare benefits, the linking of pensions to earnings, and the provision of industrial-injury benefits. Wilson's government also made significant reforms to education, most notably the expansion of comprehensive education and the creation of the Open University.[40]”
But, unlike Farage and Johnson, Wilson did actually represent the working class whose image he took on; he didn’t just pretend to be on their side the way that they ( and Trump) pretend to be…

Did I say he did?
I was saying that certain things are used as props to convey a man of the people look.Wilson liked cigars and whisky but welcomed a photo opportunity clutching a pipe and sometimes a pint. That doesn’t mean he didn’t want to help the working classes where possible.

Balanced and criticism without insults is a much better way to get one’s point over.

Oh how I agree!

Ronib ICE agents have been just capturing random Latinos at work for instance. And sending them around the country. There is no due process. They are not identifiable even by a badge number. Now criminals are using the same tactic and pretending to be ICE. Also the cease fire was just in trump's head.

Loads. What problem is there with you not resorting to whatabouttery? I am 100% against theocracy in any form. Rounding up people while dressed like a paramilitary soldier with no checks and balances is the sort of thing I associate with theocracies and dictatorships. We have the rule of law. Do you disapprove of that if Trump doesn't like it? Is this a hill you really want to die on?

We have the rule of law

I didn't realise you lived in the USA, IOMGran!

Why did I assume you lived on the Isle of Man. Never assume anything!
It must feel very uncertain over there at the moment.

I hope our PM remains steady, he doesn't seem like a rash decision-maker..

ronib Tue 24-Jun-25 17:50:57

Okay that’s not a good look IOMGran but where’s your legal representation in all of this?
Back to the ceasefire. - so far it’s apparently working. It was a very difficult situation and at least Trump put a lot of effort and energy into it. If Trump has delayed the making of nuclear bombs by Iran that’s to his credit?? Trump seems much more proactive than European ministers.

IOMGran Tue 24-Jun-25 17:54:30

I live in the Isle of Man, thank goodness. My American friends are really worried though. We had similar checks and balances to the USA but now the USA seems to have abandoned them. And the constitution appears to be a toothless wonder. I want Starmer to be as distant as he possibly can, and not join in with any reckless military adventures. We hosted some Brits who live in N Florida last month and they said it was really awful politically there now.

How much do you want to be that this 'cease fire' holds? TACO, Trump Always Chickens Out, like on the tariffs.

ronib Tue 24-Jun-25 18:00:20

But we’re not talking about tariffs we’re talking about loss of even more human lives….. of course everyone should want this ceasefire to hold. Don’t blame Trump if it doesn’t- it’s upto Iran and Israel to take full responsibility for their actions.

Jenthehen Tue 24-Jun-25 18:07:22

The tariff illustrate his lack of consistency, his lack of impulse control.

That man is a disgrace to America. Can you imagine Sir Kier Starmer, John Major, Tony Blair, Teresa May Gordon Brown or Barack Obama swearing in public I think not?

The problem is that he's not achieved what he claimed. The Iranians moved their enriched uranium prior to the strikes. They nationally now support being a n nuclear power as noone is attacking north Korea. So brilliant job.

Terric Tue 24-Jun-25 21:30:45

As an American, I can truly say that Donald Trump is an embarrassment to many of our citizens. The reason he wears the hat is to continue to rile up his MAGA (Magot) followers. He has as much in common with his radical fans as a queen and her stable boy. Remember, he is the one that did not allow black people into his New York rental apartments back in the 70’s. He is the one who stiffed the laborers and contractors that built the Atlantic City casinos. He has been a known grifter and a pervert for many years. His history cannot be cancelled but his bragging, holier and smarter than thou, has to be addressed for what it is. It is coming from a person that has such high self esteem and uses threats to destroy people…of which he does just that. He is a petty coward…take away his lackey followers and what is left but a sniveling, snorting, pompous, DUMB AS A ROCK, 79 year old phony of a human. As for his hair, my lord….could anyone ever imagine having a president of this amazing country….and it really is…that applies his own face makeup and colors and styles his own hair. He is beyond vain and he is not a “normal” person. I question so often the who, how and why of this situation. I pray that this Country survives the damage that this narcissistic idiot and his team have caused.

They were trying hard to be a nuclear country anyway and if they have managed to move the enriched uranium, which isn’t as easy as moving packs of coffee, they need undamaged infrastructure to do anything with it, centrifuges and other equipment.Since many of their scientists are no longer here either, they will have an uphill struggle.
If it becomes known that they’re getting close to it then they will be attacked again so will have to allow inspectors and investigators in.

It has been said that wearing a baseball cap halves your IQ. Good job he doesn't wear it back to front because that halves it again and he'd score 0.

I'm afraid your maths are somewhat awry when you write that halving something/anything twice results in a value of zero. It results in a value of 0.25 of the original value. That's my dose of pedantry for this evening...

Gizzy48 Wed 25-Jun-25 06:26:38

Artols:
“ Fact: you don’t put a stealth mission to a vote - hence the word stealth.”

And with that statement you destroyed all of your credibility.

He had no constitutional right to attack another country without congressional consent. Labelling anything as “stealth”, by your reasoning, means that he would NEVER need to go through Congress ever again.

It’s like saying it’s OK to cheat on your partner if the affair is meant to be a secret!

So many of those “facts” that you quoted are not facts at all. They're just spin.

Menopauselbitch Wed 25-Jun-25 09:36:21

And yet the other leaders still won’t mess with him. Love home or loathe him at least when he makes a decision he see it through unlike our eejit that other world leaders are not even including.
