Trump Asks Israel to Pardon Netsnyahu

Trump wants corruption charges to be dropped for Netanyahu saying it is a witch hunt.
Trump has used witch hunt to deny his own alleged charges.
Opposition in Israel think this may be a strategy by Trump to force Netanyahu to do a deal to get the hostages back and end hostilities in Gaza.
It feels wrong that Netanyahu gets away with corruption but does the end justify the means?

Is Trump just interfering in Israel's business or is he really trying to get peace for Gaza.

MaizieD Sun 29-Jun-25 12:34:03

If Netanyahu gets away with his corruption he'll just get worse. I don't see that dropping charges will make any difference.

The fact that Trump says it's a 'witch hunt' doesn't make it true.

AGAA4 Sun 29-Jun-25 12:58:19

It means he would get away with £150,000 in champagne and cigars from a famous Hollywood producer who Netanyahu is helping with a US visa

Claremont Sun 29-Jun-25 14:14:27

Just unbelievable- I wonder what s really going on between those two, and what promises and dodgy deals are going on behind this dreadful war and genocide.

Cossy Sun 29-Jun-25 14:19:31

Tbh, there are no words!

Anniebach Sun 29-Jun-25 14:28:42

I didn’t know he had been found guilty of the crimes , surely
it’s been said often here that Netanyahu allowed the attack on
Israel by Hamas to take place and he went to war with Hamas to avoid prosecution , seems Trump didn’t know this

AGAA4 Sun 29-Jun-25 14:29:27

It does beggar belief that the leader of Israel is accused of corruption. There seems to be plenty of evidence. The film producer has admitted to sending 'gifts' to Netanyahu in the hope of getting something back.

Anniebach Sun 29-Jun-25 14:35:52

I have no idea what took place, I will ask ‘Do witnesses never lie’ ?

MayBee70 Sun 29-Jun-25 14:36:36

Imo Netanyahu is just keeping various wars going to avoid prosecution. So maybe in one way it would benefit the world. But would make a mockery of the rule of law and justice. I think Trump looks at things in a rather childlike simplistic way which, in some ways makes sense.

Claremont Sun 29-Jun-25 14:39:15

You do realise that he was accused and convicted of any crimes before the October 7th attack. Fraud, bribes, corruption. Only the war saved him! Of course much worse crimes have been committed since, that make previous ones appear very light ad superficial, like the death of many more over 50.000 and genocide.

Philippa111 Sun 29-Jun-25 14:39:29

I think you can be sure that Trump will ever only do something if it’s in his own interests. I don’t believe he has any concern at all for the wellbeing of others. Typical narcissist behaviour and Netanyahu is one as well. What a pathetic and despicable pair of humans! I just don’t understand why the world just sits and watches the horrors that are going on and no action is taken?

Jaberwok Sun 29-Jun-25 14:41:11

Sad thing is that it would appear ALL governments are guilty of bribes, double dealing or worse. Even our sainted Labour government has been known to accept 'gifts'. Goes with the territory I guess.

AGAA4 Sun 29-Jun-25 14:44:52

It would be a bitter pill to swallow but if Trump can force Netanyahu into a deal and get those poor hostages home and cease hostilities in Gaza would it be worth it?
Not sure really.

LizzieDrip Sun 29-Jun-25 14:46:00

Please don’t compare Netanyahu with any UK Prime Minister. Shameful!

Even the Tory PMs, at their worst, were no Netanyahu!

Not sure really.

It would set a precedent though. Bit like Trump releasing all those insurgents from prison sad.

This is about Trump asking for a pardon for Netanyahu and the possibility of getting hostages home and help for Gaza.

I've been reading up on Netanyahu and he and Trump have much in common. Both face accusations of criminal behaviour and there are even parallels in their personal lives. I have to agree with Philippa that the world just watches while these men exercise their egos for personal gain. Who can be in favour of this?

Anniebach Sun 29-Jun-25 14:56:56

Why if he was found guilty has the many who support Hamas
Health Authority and Hamas police force not deny he started
the war to avoid prosecution ?

MaizieD Sun 29-Jun-25 14:56:59

Specially for Annieb.

I asked ChatGTP what Netanyahu has been accused of and is standing trial for. This is its response.

Start

Case 1000 – "The Gifts Affair"
Allegations: Netanyahu and his wife Sara are accused of receiving luxurious gifts—such as champagne, cigars, and jewelry—valued at hundreds of thousands of shekels (tens of thousands of dollars) from wealthy businessmen, including Arnon Milchan (Hollywood producer) and James Packer (Australian billionaire).

In return: Netanyahu allegedly helped Milchan with personal and business interests, including visa-related issues in the U.S.

Case 2000 – "The Media Collusion Affair"
Allegations: Netanyahu allegedly negotiated with Arnon Mozes, the publisher of Yedioth Ahronoth (a major Israeli newspaper), to receive more favorable coverage.

In exchange: Netanyahu would allegedly try to weaken a rival newspaper, Israel Hayom, which was free and strongly pro-Netanyahu.

Criminal charge: Fraud and breach of trust. Mozes is charged with offering a bribe.

Case 4000 – "The Bezeq-Walla Affair" (most serious)
Allegations: While serving as Minister of Communications, Netanyahu allegedly promoted regulatory decisions that benefited Shaul Elovitch, the controlling shareholder of Bezeq, Israel’s largest telecommunications firm.

In exchange: Elovitch allegedly ensured positive coverage of Netanyahu on Walla! News, a news website owned by Bezeq.

Criminal charge: Bribery, the most serious charge.

End

Of course, AI has been known to 'hallucinate' (make things up) but this is very widespread knowledge so I doubt if it is doing so in this instance.

I will ask ‘Do witnesses never lie’ ?

And I will ask you, Annieb. Do you think Netanyahu never lies?

AGAA4 Sun 29-Jun-25 14:57:48

Philippa111 I agree Trump will only do something to benefit himself even if it's revelling in the glory that he sorted out the Gaza situation. He loves praise and adulation.

Anniebach Sun 29-Jun-25 14:59:48

Thank you MazieD so not yet found guilty

Claremont Sun 29-Jun-25 15:28:15

This is just unbelievable.

Claremont Sun 29-Jun-25 15:37:25

Whether found guilty or not, this has nothing but nothing and even less to do with Trump, but for Israel and Israel alone.
