I hear this in particular from female politicians, but a few men do it too, they are asked one question and spend the whole of the allotted time talking fast and non stop, will not be interrupted and talk over everyone else. This is more prominent with Labour politicians and wonder if they are taught not to let a question in. I now switch them off. They are so rude and self opinionated. Do not care a fig for the listener.
No wonder the public are looking for alternatives.

In Politics, women in particular talking fast and non stop
(68 Posts)I don’t think this is confined to just Labour or female politicians.
It the majority of politicians modus operandi in order to get out of answering the question they are asked, they just give a garbled answer they have rehearsed over and over again, which normally has no connection with the topic being asked about.
I watched an interview with Richard Tice today. He talked over the woman trying to ask questions and get a coherent answer from him instead of the rubbish he was spouting.
He was a good example of being rude and self opinionated.
I think women are more likely than men to do it through nerves. Anxious not to lose the thread of what they’re saying by allowing anyone else in until they’ve finished
Women putting down other women in this way is depressing.

Isn't it just- and Labour women in particular it seems...
I do agree....
..... because whatever trigger there was for the frustration in the O/P 's remark - a particular politician - its far more complex.
There was a discussion on R4 Question time a while back. Frankly, the two men were totally outmatched by Polly Toynbee at her best - a fairly long, very coherent contribution, covering what others had said into a very sensible statement, made with some but not OTT passion.
Beat the others hands down, frankly.
I find it fascinating to watch the dynamic between political journalists and MPs. It’s like a fencing match, attack and parry, with the odd touché. Some of the journalists grate on me as much as certain politicians. I suspect if you did a straw poll we would all say it is different people who push our buttons.
I haven’t thought of it as putting women down. It probably happens partly because women are more fluent talkers than men.😄
Women in general much more verbal than men, I have a cousin that talks non stop, not even a pause to breathe. For a politician the ability to talk for at least 10 mins without answering any question is pretty much essential whatever sex they are

Thats simply totally not true.
Men can rabbit on about footie or cricket or snooker for ever and ever till you are ready, as a character in 'Just Henry books said, "scweam and scweam". Quit the mansplaining.

William not Henry 😀
It was Violet Elizabeth Bott.

A young man came to give a quote for some work we need doing outside. DH was out but DD was here and this young man talked over the top of us, dismissed our valid questions and generally treated us like a pair of idiots.
He talked at us, not to us.
Needless to say, we have ignored is extortionate quote.

I think it’s true that women are naturally more verbal than men.
That doesn’t mean that certain men can’t rabbit on but women are more chatty.
That's an anecdote, David49!! Not valid research.
Speaking anecdotally, I have found that baby girls tend to start talking earlier than boys but could that be because girls actually listen to what is being said to them then can repeat it?
Thats right, Allira. Violet Elizabeth Bott
I've got a whole set of them collected by my first husbands' Dad, printed between 1926 to about 1940.
They are still laugh out loud.
Male and female presenters on TV and Radio shows can both talk till the cows come home. Saturday morning SOT on R2 is particularly annoying to me. Bob Harris drives me spare. "Just play the music, I beg...
And turn to the Radio channel that just gives the 70's music with some ads.
Girls aim to please more than boys do and are not only more talkative ( you’ve only got to listen to a few little girls together)
😄 whereas a small group of little boys are more action led, crashing toy cars together and so on.

Yes. DGD is a good example compared with her brothers.
Its why girls are often out-performing boys at school these days.

Although DS was very late in talking compared to his sisters but then spoke in sentences. He was obviously listening and taking it all in before he attempted to speak.
If only politicians did the same 😀
I wonder if women do it more than men because it is a learned survival skill for women, so to speak. Especially women in positions of power. They need to get in as much information as possible in the shortest amount of time possible because someone is always waiting in the wings to cut them off, mansplain, talk over them and any other various disrespectful actions.
I'm sure politicians practice this technique in order to make viewers think they are answering questions but in reality are not. It is the old dazzle them with BS trick, but also do it so quickly that they don't know which end is up when it is over. It stops the hard questions from being asked.
Yes, that did happen in politics when I was young - 1960's, imaround. In fact, sometimes actually ignored. Much much less now tho there is plenty of misogyny lurking and sometimes explicit.
I was in a great mood"gang" when I was 10. We went off tree climbing and other derring do's. Until the day we were discussing who should be the leader in this or that sub gang.
I was told very firmly by 2 or 3 (the others were silent) that girls could not be leaders although I was the best swimmer by a very long way, having swum my mile badge at 9. I went out in tears but just one boy came out, he didn't say so, but he clearly didnt agree.
She isn't a politician but Fiona Bruce is like this. She spoils Question Time for me. Asks someone a question but rarely has the manners to let them reply.

Which, I would guess, is because some boys and some girls are taught only the skills that would once, in distant societies, have helped them.
John Prescott was the one who comes to mind - he’d just keep going like a bulldozer, hardly seeming to stop to draw breath!
