In Politics, women in particular talking fast and non stop

I hear this in particular from female politicians, but a few men do it too, they are asked one question and spend the whole of the allotted time talking fast and non stop, will not be interrupted and talk over everyone else. This is more prominent with Labour politicians and wonder if they are taught not to let a question in. I now switch them off. They are so rude and self opinionated. Do not care a fig for the listener.
No wonder the public are looking for alternatives.

Women putting down other women in this way is depressing.

Why? Someone is not right or special just because of their sex.

If I was interviewing an incompetent and stupid politician, I would put them down whether it was a man or women.

The only time I have turned off the radio off because a politician was talking too fast and in a monotone - and it was recently - the person concerned was a man.

Allsorts it seems to me that everyone on TV is talking fast rabbiting away to make sure they aren't pinned to down to answer the questions that has been asked but one they would prefer to answer.

I think Rachel Reeves speaks like a meloncholic robot😒

Wyllow3 Thu 10-Jul-25 23:14:25

I think she is thinking very hard indeed about exactly the right way to phrase things, which is praiseworthy as whatever we think of her, it is said with clarity.

that hard thinking whilst speaking reminds me of some men I know who do the same, its actually occurs less from women

if a man had said exactly the same thing things in the same way I get it would be regarded as clear and done with thought and admired

Just consider that for a moment, I think there is a real danger in the last post... of "biased thinking"?

Wyllow3 Thu 10-Jul-25 23:15:59

Oh, forgot appropriate smiley 👍 Go Rachel.

This is not a surprise, and true in my experience too. A woman nearly always speaks with a bit more sense of emotional intonation, than men do.
There are notable exceptions , just as RR is an exception too.

That’s not surprising because she is being forced to do what she doesn’t want to do - raise taxes while leaving the inefficient wasteful benefits untouched. She will stay for now but I really don’t see a long term future if she is not getting support from her own party.

Here is a comment from one of the finance traders

“Markets have been digesting recent UK data and the view remains negative. There are concerns that the UK economy is slowing down and perennial fears over its sustainability of public finances.
Earlier this week, the Budget of Responsibility released its latest risk report, and it was evidently clear that the UK’s finances are unsustainable.
The government’s answer to clearing part of the deficit would be to impose a wealth tax on the country’s richest people, although unlikely to work. The other options, ramp up taxes on the middle class. All in all, it looks ominous as always for the UK.”

That fits with my thinking, we can expect some form of wealth tax mostly for idealogical reasons I really dont see it raising much revenue. The taxation really needed to balance the budget will have to come from the middle classes

On several of the the political things I watch from the Uk the commentators seem to interrupt and talk across people to the extent I switch off and change channels. They are so rude, hopefully in real life they have better manners. It doesn’t seem to happen like that here, people wait their turn to speak ( though sometimes what they say can be very rude, admittedly).

The past master of the art was the late King Hussein of Jordan!

Women putting down other women in this way is depressing.

Indeed.
The majority of politicians are good at not answering a question directly, whatever their sex.

grannybuy Sun 13-Jul-25 13:55:32

The worst politician that I’ve seen when being interviewed by a news presenter ( Victoria Derbyshire ), was Sebastian Gorka, from Trump’s administration. He talked over her constantly in a very over assertive and sneering manner. I don’t know how she managed to stay calm.

Yes, I agree nanna8. It seems especially so if the commentator isn’t hearing the answer they want to hear. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a politician they are interrupting, either. It makes me cross, it’s such bad manners.

This is not confined to female politicians or any politician. Also Have you listened to Amol Rahjan ,journalist who's everywhere at the moment?

MayBee70 Sun 13-Jul-25 14:23:52

I think MP’s are fed up with being constantly interrupted when they’re trying to give an answer to the question they’ve been asked.

And I’m fed up with not being able to hear the answer from a politician as I bet, are most people.

Milest0ne Sun 13-Jul-25 15:19:06

Does anyone remember Margaret Thatcher , on being interviewed told the interviewer "That's not the question. The question is --" ? I don't remember the question but I certainly remember the tactic

Robin202 Sun 13-Jul-25 15:32:14

Yes its a technique they are taught - keep talking non-stop so no-one else can get a word in edgeways or ask awkward questions in the allotted time.

StoneofDestiny Sun 13-Jul-25 16:49:22

Not sure anybody chooses politicians because they don’t talk over others! It’s a regular occurrence when politicians are interviewed and not confined to women. But then, so is the loud bombastic interviewer gaining in popularity.

TiggyW Sun 13-Jul-25 18:13:33

Milest0ne Yes.👍 Most politicians nowadays start with ‘What I will say is…’, which is usually not an answer to the original question.
Nigel Farage is good at speaking in a very measured, calm way.

BLAH. BLAH. BLAH.......

I think l know what you mean about women politicians. talking really quickly. Racing along. None stop at a rate of knots

I feel really feel exhausted listening to them. Its as though they are in a race and everything they say is pre rehearsed and said in this awful tone moni tone voice with no variation. Which sounds really loud and false and lands as being devoid of any real feeling and meaning

They sound like preprogrammed Robot Drones. Like a possible future scene from The Handmaidens Tale or in a new West World film

Or maybe it's a way of competing with men?

However, I also think this way and manner of s this type of speaking/think is not just confined women politicans.

And it also seems to a be used by a lot of younger women on TV News. Digital Media etc. Who are either Interviewers or being interviewed.

Very tedious to listen to.

In the past l really loathefd patronising media class ridden, affected la de da, posh Southern voices. Which seem to be thankfully dying off.

Women have fought for years to have actually have a voice.
But this way of speaking could be really alienating.

I think women are more likely than men to do it through nerves. Anxious not to lose the thread of what they’re saying by allowing anyone else in until they’ve finished

Really????
