How many people have been waiting years for social housing in this country? They live in B&Bs, disgusting private accommodation running with mould, overcrowding relative's homes, many living on the streets yet the government are thinking of using empty properties for migrants to use?
What the hell is this country coming to? No doubt these long empty houses will be refurbished and made brand spanking new with new kitchens and bathrooms etc for these people to live comfortably in at great expense. When are we going to put our own people first?
We don't know who these, mostly, young men are, what they've done in their own countries or what they bring into our country.
We've had multiple cases of foreign looking men sitting around our beach front trying to chat up young girls out enjoying the beach. One said he was the young girl's brother when someone challenged him, which certainly was not the case, he was chased off by locals.
We're going to get lots more of this till we stop being the soft touch of Europe and make the UK undesirable to come here. I doubt the French are giving out £50 top ups for 'essentials' each week

I helped a young, local couple to get social housing. It took 4 years to get something which was a flat. I have heard of people waiting 10 years.

Starmer reckons there is plenty of empty accommodation but when asked he couldn’t say WHERE. He is living in cloud cuckoo land if he believes what he says.

There is no way locals around here will accept illegal immigrants being housed before them. It is very wrong to even consider doing so.

We were gobsmacked watching Starmer say that, and not being able to say where all this vacant housing is! Nobody believes it.

You can't get much more safe than France yet day after day they make the trip over to our country, and why is that? I wonder

And yes, France does give them pocket money to spend too. I think it is around 50 euros a week.

The government is planning g to move them into empty housing around the country. Starmer says there are plenty of empty houses so there might be some near you. This has already happened in Ireland.

If there are so many empty houses which can be used for asylum seekers, why can’t they be used for people from this country who are living in B&B Accommodation, single mums with children etc?

Those young men are illegal and most are just migrants and certainly not asylum seekers.

Home Office statistics show that 75% of 'illegal' immigrants are successful in their asylum claims.

Well I certainly don't want them in a house near me. In a town nearby one of our premier hotels has them and they wander round aimlessly with nothing to do.

Premier Inns do not take asylum seekers and state that they have no intention of entering into a contract with the Government to do so.

There is actually loads of vacant accommodation in the UK. The problem is that it's generally in places where unemployment is high and people don't want to live. There are whole streets in some towns where many of the houses and shops/offices are boarded up. Presumably Starmer knows that and has decided asylum seekers could live there. He's done the calculation empty housing + homeless asylum seekers = solution.

Unfortunately, the areas where there is empty accommodation are some of the most deprived in the country. There are already social problems and people are encouraged to look for scapegoats. Those scapegoats become their neighbours. It's a recipe for disaster.

Hotel companies are free to enter into contracts with whoever they like. Some will take a government contract because they may not be getting enoughcustom from the local economy.

Most hotel chains do not have government contracts to house asylum seekers- so this is a bit of a non-story really...

It really doesn't take much to look up the statistics for empty properties in the UK - and where they are located. Nobody needs to be a brain surgeon to get somebody to look up the stats. I doubt if Starmer has the time, but a drive round some of our towns would show him where the empty properties are.

Yes, if no ownership can be established they are ultimately returned to the crown. Local Authorities also have powers to force owners to bring vacant properties back into use, and to initiate investigations where the owner can’t be traced.
