It is very difficult to understand what is really happening and what are lies being perpetrated by Israel or Hamas. Add to this reporting restrictions and it is surprising we know as much as we do.

For use as a template to write about Gaza

Written by my Quaker Friend from the Welsh Valleys, a Care Worker all his life, now suffering from a serious heart condition, whose passion is now all out for the peoples of Gaza:

Amended for Gransnet by myself and another GN poster. (thank you for encouragement)

Dear xx

I write to you with anger, sorrow, and hope that you will take the all the measures possible to end the suffering of the Gazan, and all the Palestinian Peoples.

Firstly, the overall fundamental action - that is to join other nations in recognising a Palestinian State. Our government must move to do this.

Secondly, all the actions necessary to stop any supplies of arms.

Third, crucially, feed the starving, the malnourished, those drinking poisoned water and Provide adequate Medical Care.

Fourth, start to Rebuild.

******

Many, many loyal Labour Party members, and UK citizens from many other political, religious and cultural backgrounds:

Have become exasperated with Starmer and other ministers, who will not yet act adequately.

On these issues I urge you to stay true to the principles and humanity…of all that is right and good, for thelong term survival of innocents in Gaza and the West Bank.

It is time, despite the many people in Israel itself, and the people of many religious and cultural backgrounds to shout that

Netanyahu’s government - the current cabinet - is now close to becoming a pariah State

Recognise Palestine as a state

Cease Fire Now

Feed the starving, the innocents dying of malnutrition, poisoned water

Use the UN and any other benign organisations to supply food, water, medical supplies, and other necessities: ^and only when there is no other choice by air drops

As opposed to situations where people are shot dead or wounded trying to access supplies.

In hope you will be moved by all that is good to support these actions

Yours etc…

(There are many to write to, but one recommended by my Quaker Friend is)

Thanks Wyllow.

This can be added Annie, I cant think of everything!

Wyllow3 Sun 27-Jul-25 21:27:45

My Welsh Valleys Friend could die at any time, although he is a small, fiercely determined man and this his passion.

Sweetpeasue I had to turn down the volume in that bit of of the news. I could not bear it, or cry the whole way through.

Sorry what can be added and to what ?

Maremia Sun 27-Jul-25 21:43:15

Thank you Wyllow3, we can all add our own wee nuances to this letter. It is very useful to have an example of issues we could raise.
You don't have to think of everything.
It's good to be pro-active, in an effort to make a difference.

Maremia Sun 27-Jul-25 21:46:25

You may take what you like from my comment Oreo. My beliefs, or lack thereof, are of no relevance to you.
Bible bashing? Surely you are not trying to dictate the narrative?

Maremia Sun 27-Jul-25 21:48:07

To the letter, Annie, should you wish to use it.
I will definitely have a go.
Thanks again.

Baby Siwar was evacuated from Gaza in June with her father and grandmother.
Her mother was unable to breastfeed her as she herself was malnourished and the baby has a problem which means she needed a special milk formula.
I hope she is recovering now.

I couldn't recall the end of the story, thank you. Thanks be.

Exactly Claremont, and many religious folk are out and out hypocrites.

I take it that you both aren’t religious either then.🤔

Many atheists and humanists are out and out hypocrites.
Many people of faith do their best to follow the faith they were brought up in, or discovered as adults. The major faiths share similar core beliefs
Live and let live and don’t sneer at faiths

Spot on in my case.

How can non religious people be hypocritical about religious texts they neither follow or believe in???

Annie, again and again, and again some more- we all deplore antisemitism. BTW Palestinians are also semites be definition.

Her pregnant mother was still in Gaza with her own mother.

Well said, Iam64

Quoting religious scripts may merely show someone is good at googling but may not not show they have true belief.

The latest news I could find is that she is in Jordan with her blind father and grandmother. I think she's still there. Her mother is still in Gaza.

Siwar is one of the lucky ones - I hope she's getting good treatment and thrives.

As regards what I missed out, I'd suggests something along the lines of "^I think that supporting Jewish people who are suffering from increased anti-semitism but are not happy with Netanyahu's regime is a positive step that can be taken^" ?

Really,,Israelis who support their government should suffer hatred ? not what any Quakers I know would support

Bizarre.

Who said anything about hatred of those who support their government?

We have a real problem with anti Semitism here just now. I don’t think it is anything whatsoever to do with Israel and Netanyahu, they just use that as an excuse to attack synagogues and make disrespectful and nasty remarks to Jewish people living here. Many , I am sure, would never have even been to Israel.

Anniebach Mon 28-Jul-25 05:42:45

Antisemitism has been with us for ever, it’s rife now in universities so will continue to future generations.
I am in contact with many Jewish communities in parts of the UK and in other countries , it certainly didn’t start 7th October
2023 , the Israeli/Palestine war feeds it

Whitewavemark2 Mon 28-Jul-25 08:03:03

“Keir Starmer to recall his cabinet from summer break for emergency meeting on Gaza crisis this week amid growing international horror over situation on ground in territory.

PM will urge Donald Trump to take tougher stance towards Israel on aid and push for ceasefire talks to resume at talks in Scotland today.”

Never stop protesting, it may seem an impossible struggle, but never lose our humanity and live for our fellow man.

One of very few post of yours that I can agree with.

Except that just like any religious/racism and the push back against the culture wars we must never stop protesting.

I would just like to gently say that my reference to the bible was related to a specific instance, where illegal settlers - who claim that they are the “chosen ones” and have a right to stolen land, were the ones trying to prevent the lorries from entering Gaza.

I am a humanist, and I hope that I am never accused of hypocrisy!

AGAA4 Mon 28-Jul-25 08:35:49

Netanyahu was on the news this morning blaming the UN for not letting the aid trucks through. What have the UN to gain by not letting the food through to Gaza? No benefit to them.
What has Israel to gain by not allowing the aid in to Gaza? The continuing plan of starving the Palestinians maybe.
Netanyahu said yesterday that the war would go on until Israel has full victory in Gaza. I think we know what that means.

Bizarre.

Why is this bizarre. It makes total sense in the context, 100%.

And no-one is sneering at other people's faiths.
