So what do GNs think of Starmer’s decision to recognise Palestine as a state?

Exactly that.
Although it’s still only, the UK may recognise Palestine as a state unless certain conditions are fulfilled
What will that mean for the UK and for those supporters of either group living here?

Babs03 Mon 04-Aug-25 21:55:20

Correction I personally do not subscribe to this.

Smileless2012

Thank you Wyllow.

This is from a Muslim MP so?

Well, exactly, Smileless shock horror!!!!

yes he just happens to be a Muslim MP!!!

but in Sheffield Hallam which adjoins his constituency it's Olivia Blake, you cn check out her views online of you lie, she happens to totally agree with him.

I didn't expect to find such prejudice here, I must admit. Honestly.
They share the same POV: one is Muslim, one is not.

And naysaywers have not proof whatsoever that he doesnt care for all his constituents including Jewish ones

Wyllow3 Tue 05-Aug-25 02:20:14

If I'd said the letter was from Olivia Blake, what would you have said then, posters?

ronib Tue 05-Aug-25 05:47:07

Abtisam is female. I find it odd that you have misgendered this mp Wyllow3.
It tends to indicate that we are working cross culturally.

This is a picture of what the Israeli government is beginning to talk more about which is the Zionist ambition for a Greater Israel.

It shows an Israel stretching from the Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates.

Some IDF soldiers are wearing these badges, so it seems that the Oslo agreement is well and truly abandoned.

I think in view of this, it is imperative that the world now pushes hard for the recognition of a Palestinian state, as it is clear that the Israeli government has expansionist ambitions, and will not stop at Gaza.

It has no intention of making peace of any sort, or at least only to the extent that it allows time for the people in Gaza to leave to a life of refugee and stateless.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 05-Aug-25 07:58:11

Oh I forgot the picture

Babs03 Tue 05-Aug-25 08:15:10

Am not at all surprised about this or reports today that the Israeli government is now set to go for full occupation of Gaza in order to free the hostages and am not surprised that Trump has given the green light to these plans.
After all this has been the aim of Bibi and his cronies all along.

Babs03 Tue 05-Aug-25 08:16:40

History will no doubt give its own resounding condemnation of this period, and few will escape blame.

ronib Tue 05-Aug-25 09:03:50

Yes taking over Gaza is the best way to bring an end to this particular war. Doubtless there will be more. I hope that the twenty or so hostages are found alive. Hamas needs to find no resting place in Israel.

Today we know, what was always the intention of Netanyahu and his extreme zionist - it is just beyond appalling and the whole world knows it, but acknowledges it too late.

Yes, they will be judged, hopefully sooner than later.

And the use the expression all the time 'from the river to the sea'.

I don't really understand it. If Gaza isn't a 'state' then what is it? It must be something. If so, what??

Its a tiny part of Palestine. MOST of Palestine is separated from the little strip called Gaza.

I did assume male, Ronib, (definitely my bad big time doing that! )

But thats not the issue here, its that people reacted to her as they did as she is a Muslim, and my point was:

Would they have reacted the same if it had been Olivia Blake

Another example Sarah Champion, just down the road from both Blake and Abtisam, also holds the same views, and no one has reacted like that here to her (she's the lady who also was one of the first to shout out about grooming gangs)

Wyllow3 Tue 05-Aug-25 09:50:10

For those who ask, who is Abtisam Mohamed go to

abtisammohamed.com

There is a short video. She was born and bred locally

She is a mum, a a community leader, a senior councillor and a lawyer.

"I’m the daughter of a Yemeni steelworker. Growing up here during the 1980s and 90s I experienced the pain and poverty caused by the Tories.

I left school with 4 GCSEs, but through hard work and access to education made possible by a Labour Government.

I qualified as a teacher and then as a lawyer, while working full-time in community development"

Oreo Tue 05-Aug-25 09:50:25

That’s because you haven’t copied their letters Wyllow3 as you have with the one on the previous page.
A Muslim Asian MP who is a member of Labour Friends Of Palestine ( not a newly set up group btw) is always going to be totally one sided on this issue. There isn’t a single mention in the letter of what happened on October 7th 2023 nor a single message about the hostages.
It isn’t rocket science to see that this particular MP is biased.
There are other MP’s of course who are concerned about the Gaza situation as many people are. They just might have mentioned the atrocities by hamas and the need to release the last living Israeli hostages.

silverlining48 Tue 05-Aug-25 09:51:13

Easy mistake Wyllow, it’s not a name most of us would have come across.

ronib Tue 05-Aug-25 09:54:59

I think the views expressed by Abtisam are never going to be shared by Jewish people. In any event, Netanyahu is going ahead with a plan of action for a Greater Israel, retrieval of hostages, removal of Hamas. Not sure what Starmer is going to say about this. The news channels are not reporting on this it seems.

No there isn’t, and taking it over seems to be the obvious step as what else is there at the moment.

It certainly seems as though Netanyahu's aim for a Greater Israel is remarkably similar to those of Herzl and present-day Zionists.

Obvious to whom? If Gaza is annexed, what happens to the 2 million population? Either they're destroyed, moved out to whoever will take them or Israel is going to have a permanent civil war on its hands.

Wyllow3 Tue 05-Aug-25 10:03:29

Well it was her surname, silverlining that tripped me up, as Mohamed is a popular boys' name, in fact the most popular boys and mens name, meaning "praiseworthy" and is a variant spelling of the name Muhammad,

Oreo I just feel that if people keep talking about sides as you have, then we are seriously on the road to failing to make a solution work.

Its far, far more complex than that: as people have shades of opinion as to the whole range of associated issues.

Talking about "sides" just polarises our discussions and is the road least likely to peace on both the small and large scale imo

butterandjam Tue 05-Aug-25 10:10:51

It is by no means the best way ronib.

When Israel obliteratess Gaza and all Palestinians in it, you can only shudder to think what they will do next in the West Bank ( the parts Israel haven't already illegally occupied and settled by driving out Palestinians).

Are you claiming that all Muslims speak with one voice? Really? Shame on somebody who is always so keen to jump on bigotry when it's directed at your tribe).
