Much as I dislike Trump I believe he might have enough influence to achieve this.

Allira Thu 07-Aug-25 21:08:33

Oh I wish.

Rather unpleasant, even if you don't agree.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 07-Aug-25 21:15:33

I thought that too Allira. 🤷‍♀️

Claremont Thu 07-Aug-25 21:20:23

Agreed, and I'll apologise. But this constant denial is truly pushing many of us to the limit.

StripeyGran Thu 07-Aug-25 21:21:50

HAMAS must be completely eradicated. Either by Gazans themselves

Any ideas how a starving person can do that?

I can't tell you what to do, of course, but best to skip past posts that might upset or annoy you.

This might be one, of course!

So the final solution has been decided.

Those poor hostages - the families must be devastated.

Evil persists and nothing will save the children of Palestine now.

I will never forgive this Israeli government.

Babs03 Fri 08-Aug-25 07:06:37

Yes a full occupation will go ahead.
A very sad day for families of hostages and Palestinians alike.
And for a world that can only watch it unfold.

A final solution indeed. Evil just evil.

foxie48 Fri 08-Aug-25 07:53:37

There is huge opposition to this both in the Knesset and on the streets of Israel, the families of the hostages are certainly not in support. We can only hope that this appalling decision is one of the last that Netanyahu makes and it will lead to his downfall.

Surely it will go to a vote ?

So Netanyahu’s evil plan to occupy Gaza has come to fruition; agreed by his security council.

What, no vote for the whole Israeli government? Where was the vote Annie?

There are many high ranking people in Israel who vehemently disagree with this move, not to mention the Israeli people themselves - yet it’s going ahead.

A sad day for both Gazans and Israelis.

State of Palestine
UN
“When Israel says this is a war of civilization against barbarism, it means that its barbaric acts have to be condoned because the perpetrators are Israelis and the victims are Palestinians.

It does not even see the irony of it resorting to such images that have been used and abused by colonial powers who claimed to represent civilization against barbarism to justify their atrocities.”

Whitewavemark2 Fri 08-Aug-25 08:15:03

Jews world wide are appalled - there are so many letters of protest etc, it is difficult to pin point just one, but they all argue that this will bring nothing to harm to Israel in the future and insecurity to the world wide diaspora as the world rejects the evil and racist acts being carried out by the Israeli government and supporters.

An example of one of the letters - and I agree with every word

Amongst its demands is a call for the Israeli government to “permanently restore and enable the provision of food and humanitarian aid to the Gazan population” and to end the war and bring the hostages home in a single deal, and to clampdown on extremist violence in the West Bank.

Damningly, the letter also cites the fact that members of Netanyahu’s government have used “language of racism, hatred and incitement without censure” adding such statements are “a moral abomination and a chilul hashem – a desecration of Jewish values and Israel’s founding principles. ”

It begins by stating:”We are members of Jewish communities around the world who passionately support the State of Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish people. Our solidarity is always with Israel and Israel’s citizens, never more so than since Hamas unleashed its barbaric attack of October 7.

“We are under no illusions about the actions and intentions of Hamas, other extremist forces and the states that support them, and we acknowledge the painful dilemmas any Israeli government would face in addressing these threats.

“Yet we also cannot escape the fact that the policies and rhetoric of the government you lead are doing lasting damage to Israel, its standing in the world and the prospects of secure peace for all Israelis and Palestinians. This has severe consequences for Israel but also for the wellbeing, security and unity of Jewish communities around the world.”

It also calls for Netanyahu to “provide assurances also that Israel will not seek to resettle Gaza or pursue or advocate any policy of expulsion of Palestinian civilians under any guise.”

Addressing the violence in the West Bank it adds:” If Israel’s military, when given the bold order by you, can send a missile through a window in Tehran to take out an Iranian general with unerring accuracy it surely has the ability to maintain order in the West Bank, prevent Jewish extremist violence, protect Palestinian civilians and apply the law.

“That it does not, suggests a lack of will. We therefore urge you to prevent attacks by settlers and their supporters and ensure arrests and prosecutions of those responsible.”

Condemning the use of extremist language by some in the Israeli government, the letter names Heritage Minister, Amichai Eliyahu, who recently boasted that “the government is racing toward erasing Gaza…Thank God we are erasing this evil…All of Gaza will be Jewish.”

It ends by saying that as “past, present and future leaders of Jewish communities we do not remain silent in the face of Israel’s external threats, but nor will we remain silent when we believe the policies of Israel’s own government are wrong, and endangering the resilience, security and sustainability of both Israel and world Jewry.”

This will alienate Israel from the rest of the world even more.
What incentive do Hamas have for keeping the hostages alive now?
I believe that this has been Netanyahu's goal from the start. An evil man along with those in the Knesset who approved his plan.

AGAA4 Fri 08-Aug-25 08:54:42

The father of one of the hostages fears for his son. He alleged that Netanyahu wants all the hostages dead so he can go into Gaza with brute force.
The families of the hostages will be even more worried today. What a catastrophic situation Netanyahu has engineered for the hostages and the Gazans.

Smileless2012 Fri 08-Aug-25 08:59:37

He's already gone into Gaza with brute force with no care for the consequences.

Of course it will. And one of the reasons many Jews are so against what Netanyahu and his knesset, with the unquestionning support of the IDF, are doing.

There was so much support for Jews after the diabolical events of the 1940s - but since 1967, the wheels have turned, and now, anti Israel (and not necessarily anti Jew- but it depends what side they are on) is rising- and if Netanyahu goes on to flatten Gaza and take over the West Bank and expulse the few Palestinians left, the rise of anti Israel will be exponantial (and sadly, the rise of anti Jews with it, as they will be seen as complicit and responsible).

Why do so many people hate anyone Jewish? Had this when I started work after school & 65 years on it is still the same!

Equally, why do so many abhor the hatred and prejudice against Jewish people?

My own half-brother who is Jewish is critical of the Israeli government's policies, decisions and actions in Gaza.

How many times does it have to be re-iterated that criticism of the government and the IDF is just that? It is not hatred of "anyone Jewish".

I'm sure you did experience anti-Semitism when you started work, I've witnessed it myself; I've heard the blathering of the Holocaust-deniers, the Hitler-apologists, and the fabricated anti-Semitic tropes of the conspiracy theorists.

But, surely, you can appreciate that being critical of Netanyahu / the Israeli government, does not mean we are automatically aligned with those ignorant bigots?

When you at heart know that you are not a bigot or a xenophobe, when you judge a man, or a group, on their actions, not on their religious or cultural identity or the colour of their skin, it's quite hard to tolerate accusations of hatred because, from that point on, it invalidates anything further that you say. Debate becomes impossible, it becomes personal.

I feel so sad for Israel. Hated on all sides. 🇮🇱

Yes same as the 30’s , 40’s, they were hated in Europe

Israel wasn't hated in the 30s and 40s. It didn't exist.

LizzieDrip Fri 08-Aug-25 09:40:47

We see the same with Islamophobia.

One Muslim commits a crime and some people immediately jump onto the ‘all Muslims are criminals’ bandwagon.

It’s clearly not true but it happens.

Sadly, Netanyahu is committing war crimes on a massive scale…

Because neo-Nazi groups now have cover for what they do.
