Ex-Reform MP Rupert Lowe mistakes charity rowers for ā€˜illegal migrants’

Honestly, you can't make it up! It would be 🤣 if it wasn't so appalling.

Dinghies coming into Great Yarmouth, RIGHT NOW,’ the former Reform member wrote on social media

Authorities alerted, and I am urgently chasing. If these are illegal migrants, I will be using every tool at my disposal to ensure these individuals are deported

So who was it?

But the vessel pictured was, in fact, an ocean rowing boat crewed by ROW4MND, a team of four who are attempting to row from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for motor neurone disease

In there meantime, have a look at these dangerous "illegals"

could Lowe perhaps have just for a minute thought of maybe asking the authorities to check the boat out? You know, a telescope ?

It made me laugh, I was imagining him feverishly spending hours looking out to sea, eyes stuck to his binoculars, so he could get a coup!

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

I'm remembering the crowds on Plymouth Hoe watching Sir Francis Chichester coming in after his round-the-world solo trip. I was there, but just as well Rupert Lowe was only a primary schoolboy then!

Had to read that comment twice, it’s late, am tired and a senior moment, I thought Francis Drake at first!🤣

If only he was as vigilant when it came to the behaviour of rabble rousers (like his party leader), racist attacks, street gangs and ā€˜boring old crimes’ the media have lost interest in. But no - the one thing his party obsess about happens to wake him up. What a total ar*e of a man.

He apologised on social media for his mistake as soon as the boat was identified and donated £1,000 to the rowers charity

Of course he did šŸ™„ Wonder why he didn’t do so before he published his nonsense and landed on his a*se

Wyllow3 Fri 08-Aug-25 22:52:35

To those who say its an OTT reaction,

I can easily imagine the furore that would erupt from some posters if a Labour Party politician had posted "news" on Social Media that turned out to be firstly incorrect, and secondly, incendiary

The next day at PMQ?

This man has form. It isn't the first time he has got worked up about something that wasn't what he htought it was.

perhaps it is something they put in his tea.

I can't understand how an ex-Reform MP could have made such an error. Perhaps a visit to the optician is needed.

In Norfolk and in our neighbouring county of Suffolk there have been reports of illegal immigrants arriving on boats up our many small creeks and quays for several years.

We have also had them arriving illegally in cars and lorries in the dead of night, being dropped off in car parks and then running off into the night.

I imagine when it was reported to Rupert Lowe he had to act fast because, like those already mentioned above, they were never found. Yes, it was incorrect information but he has apologised and made a charity donation.

I think he should have donated more!

He donates his entire MP’s salary every month to charities.

He lives on income from his farm.

At least he apologised for his mistake & donated money, he didn’t have to do that but that’s the nice type of bloke he is. I like RL.

Primrose53 Sat 09-Aug-25 11:49:43

Another 400 boat people arrived today and more on the water apparently.

I know, which is why he is able to donate his salary to charities.

There are other multi millionaire MP’s do they donate their salary? If they so, good on them šŸ‘

Yes, on of those very very rich farmers who complained about inheritance tax!

I support all farmers in opposing IHT on farms.

In fact I oppose IHT full stop!

He used to be Chairman of the football team I support. He's always been a prat.

I couldn't find any reports when searching Google of illegal immigration via boats on the Norfolk or Suffolk coasts. I would think such would have been reported in local or national newspapers so I think it's unproven rumour. Rupert Lowe did not refer to such previous incidents when explaining his mistake.

It's unfortunate that his mistake led to a waste of public money in intercepting the charity rowers.

That’s not what this thread is about though. A more relevant question would be are they also irresponsible enough to make posts on social media alerting people to things which turn out to be incorrect, and which could have resulted in people coming to serious harm. One would hope not. Money does not compensate for stupidity, which is what his actions were on this occasion.

You didn’t search very well then did you?

Here’s just one to be going on with but there are others

I think it was in 2018 we came back from France in a private boat. We called up customs to tell them where we were and asked for customs clearance as you are required to do by law.
We were on a sizeable boat, a converted trawler.
Nobody came out.

I know that thank you. I did say in my post it has been going on ā€œfor several yearsā€ for that very reason.

Only the big rubber dinghies make the news because of the sheer numbers they carry but our small inlets and much quieter coastlines attract those stowing away in lorries or camper vans or buses. I know of many reports of small boats acting very suspiciously and locals are sure illegal immigrants in small numbers are sneaking in.

Casdon Sat 09-Aug-25 22:14:23

I think you’ll find illegal immigrants have always entered the country by being smuggled on private craft, UK wide Primrose53, whether several, nine or ninety years ago? I don’t believe that can be stopped altogether.

Regardless, there is nothing that excuses posting as Rupert Lowe did, whatever else people throw into the mix.
