BBC report

“Israel has faced mounting criticism over the 22-month-long war with Hamas, with UN-backed experts warning of widespread famine unfolding in the besieged territory.

On Tuesday members of an international group of former leaders known as "The Elders" for the first time called the war in Gaza an "unfolding genocide" and blamed Israel for causing famine among its population.

Following a visit to the Gaza border, Helen Clark and Mary Robinson, a former prime minister of New Zealand and a former president of Ireland, said in a joint statement: "What we saw and heard underlines our personal conviction that there is not only an unfolding, human-caused famine in Gaza. There is an unfolding genocide."

Israel hasn't yet responded to the proposals agreed by Hamas at the weekend or a period of cease fire so perhaps this is their response.

We'll have to wait and see how many reservists if any, refuse to serve in Gaza.

Israel have demanded the release of all hostages which casts doubt on any peace deal.

Hamas doesn’t want peace

Smileless2012 Wed 20-Aug-25 11:04:16

Hamas doesn't want peace neither does Israel.

Anniebach Wed 20-Aug-25 11:24:23

Israel cannot have peace whilst Hamas exists

I don’t think that you need have any fears annie

Israel is almost certainly going to succeed in getting ride of the Palestinians both in Gaza and West Bank, genocide through starvation and bombing and ethnic cleansing by forced movement.
How many deaths that means are beyond thought and frankly endurance, but there you go.

Israel will succeed.

They will however never be forgiven.

I have just read, and been astounded by, that Israel claims jurisdiction over the rain that falls and that the Palestinians are not allowed to collect it for domestic or agricultural use. I don’t know how they can enforce it but the mere fact that they make this claims is shocking. I have double checked this and found several sources that state this.

I’m not surprised. They aren’t allowed fish in their own sea either I believe?

Israel will not survive this assault in the long term.

It's reputation is in ruins.

It will become a pariah country and may eventually lose its democratic status.

I really don't think they care now- they just want to bring about a total decimation of what was Palestine.

I suspect in another generation they will wonder if it was all worth it?

Smileless2012 Wed 20-Aug-25 13:07:39

It well become a pariah country and may eventually lose it its democratic status Israel shall reap as it has sewn.

They have been treated as pariahs for centuries

No they haven't Anniebach. Israel was a respected nation by many countries.
Now people are disgusted by what they are doing in Gaza including some Israelis.
The stain on Israel will be hard to wash away.

Smileless2012 Wed 20-Aug-25 14:07:57

Nothing to add Annie to AGAA's response.

Jews have never been respected, Pogroms in Russia, antisemitism in Europe led to Holocaust, Jews started the 1st WW , this week 2 comedians have been stopped from performing in a Fringe in Scotland, yes they are Jews, Co leader with Corbyn has announced she is anti Zion, Jews now been attacked in Europe, in America , in UK , holocaust denying , comparing the war with Hamas / Israel with the Holocaust, anti semitism is rampant, pointless denying it. As for such lies as rainfall, it believed because it’s wanted to be true
,

Parsley3 Wed 20-Aug-25 14:19:43

Not a lie, Anniebach.
Israel doesn’t directly control the rain, of course—but it does exert substantial control over Gaza’s ability to collect, store, and manage rainwater, due to broader control over infrastructure, materials, and border access. This is part of the larger context of Israeli policy toward Gaza, which includes land, sea, and air blockades.

Parsley3 Wed 20-Aug-25 14:20:58

Organizations like the United Nations, Amnesty International, and B’Tselem have criticized the level of Israeli control over Gaza’s water resources, calling it a violation of international humanitarian law, particularly because clean water is a basic human right.

UN ? , less than 2 years ago several UN aid workers took part in the Hamas attack on Israel, saying “only 10” doesn’t change the truth, I can’t share trust in charities claims they are dependent on monies given , and on protection in war torn places .
That’s it .

Sorry forgot, yes the allegations about water has been stated for quite sometime, why an announcement now about rain water ?
feeding a need to pump up hatred

The allegations are true and water does come from rain.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 20-Aug-25 14:58:16

Of course when this is all over and the bodies have been buried out of sight, Israel will deny every single horror they committed, but people must never forget.

Their settlements will be built on the bones of children. I hope that they never prosper.

You did ask why an announcement about rainwater.

This wont be forgotten either,
On 23 March 2025, in the Al‑Hashashin area of southern Rafah, Gaza, a convoy of clearly marked emergency vehicles—including five ambulances, a fire truck, and a UN vehicle—was fired upon by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). This attack killed 15 aid workers, comprising 8 Palestine Red Crescent Society paramedics, 5 civil defense personnel, and 1 UN staff member.
A mass grave was discovered days later, where the vehicles and bodies had been buried under sand. The recovery operation—comprising heavy machinery and manual digging—uncovered the victims in their uniforms, with some bodies showing signs that suggested execution-style killings.
