BBC report

“Israel has faced mounting criticism over the 22-month-long war with Hamas, with UN-backed experts warning of widespread famine unfolding in the besieged territory.

On Tuesday members of an international group of former leaders known as "The Elders" for the first time called the war in Gaza an "unfolding genocide" and blamed Israel for causing famine among its population.

Following a visit to the Gaza border, Helen Clark and Mary Robinson, a former prime minister of New Zealand and a former president of Ireland, said in a joint statement: "What we saw and heard underlines our personal conviction that there is not only an unfolding, human-caused famine in Gaza. There is an unfolding genocide."

I think you're right AGAA it really does look as if it's the war that's keeping Netanyahu in power sad.

Also Maremia there is a part of Wales that the English insist is theirs
Should those who have settled there over hundreds of years be forced out for those who feel they are the original people.
Or maybe they could say that part of Wales should be given back as God has said so.

That little part of Wales is about as far as you can go and is not handy for commuting.

More and more English people are 'invading' Wales as the house prices rise in England.

Italy has taken in - so far- over 100 people from Gaza suffering from malnutrition. 🤞 they will pull through, although tragically a 20 year old girl has died.

The blockade continues people continue to starve and die.

The bombings continue, people continue to suffer terribly injuries and death.

Israel is nowhere nearer th end to their stated war aims, although I suspect their real aims of ethnic cleansing snd genocide is spinning along nicely.

The 20 year old was in Italy for treatment, she had leukaemia and in the papers today it says the BBC has apologised for saying she was suffering from malnutrition.

Oreo Tue 19-Aug-25 17:53:10

I think there may be more Welsh living in England than Wales😁

AGAA4 Tue 19-Aug-25 18:39:48

That little part of Wales is actually a city now and has been disputed over time. Commuting isn't too bad from there.
This however has nothing to do with Gaza.

Allira Tue 19-Aug-25 18:42:08

Ah, we're at cross purposes. I don't know any English people who want it back, except someone I once knew wanted independence for the area.

No, it hasn't. A diversion.

Gary Lineker has been shortlisted for the National Television award for best TV presenter, a few months after his exit from the BBC’s Match Of The Day.

A win surely

Well, the Jewish people have been forced from their homeland time after time and have had to resist attempts to wrest it from them again in modern times.

That, of course, does not give Netanyahu any justification for what he is doing.

The situation with Wales and England is totally irrelevant and the analogy is erroneous anyway.

Anniebach Tue 19-Aug-25 19:15:59

The BBC , yet another apology, they have a problem don’t they

AGAA4 Tue 19-Aug-25 19:24:48

Israel has as I thought caused a problem with the peace talks. Netanyahu does not want this war to end.
Also Palestinians are being wrested from their homes, bombed and starved but it seems some only have sympathy for Israel.

Anniebach Tue 19-Aug-25 19:54:23

How brutal of Israel wanting 20 hostages released not 10 , it’s only been 23 months , seeing the photographs of the two male hostages was released by Gaza government, wonder why !

AGAA4 Tue 19-Aug-25 20:40:18

Better 10 than none.

Quite wrong.

Some of us recognise historical wrongs, we were horrified at what happened on 7/10/2023 and worry about the hostages, but can also feel anguish at what is happening now.

Not all of us are partisan.

Sympathy? understanding yes

I am not partisan but some on here definitely are. I have said through these threads how atrocious and horrifying was the attack by Hamas and how I wanted the hostages back with their families but like many including governments around the world can't condone what Israel is doing and how they continue this war.

Hamas didn’t stop attacking Israel after 7th October 2023, nothing they broadcast is questioned , nothing,

Israel is going to call up 50,000 reservists over the coming days as it prepares for the next phase of the war in Gaza City. One million Palestinians have been told to move South.

So it seems they have no intention of stopping the take over of Gaza xxx

You obviously don't follow the right media sources. Hamas broadcasts are often questioned and fact-checked.

At the moment Israel is seriously divided. Many have said that they will refuse to serve in Gaza.

Then no increase in military

AGAA4 Wed 20-Aug-25 10:03:54

Netanyahu has caused more damage to his own people after they suffered the attack by Hamas.
It has been said that chasms are forming between the people. Many want the war to end. They want their loved ones home and an end to the killing. There are others who are fervently religious who want the Palestinians gone from Gaza.
A divided country is not good for any government.
