Unfolding Genocide

BBC report

“Israel has faced mounting criticism over the 22-month-long war with Hamas, with UN-backed experts warning of widespread famine unfolding in the besieged territory.

On Tuesday members of an international group of former leaders known as "The Elders" for the first time called the war in Gaza an "unfolding genocide" and blamed Israel for causing famine among its population.

Following a visit to the Gaza border, Helen Clark and Mary Robinson, a former prime minister of New Zealand and a former president of Ireland, said in a joint statement: "What we saw and heard underlines our personal conviction that there is not only an unfolding, human-caused famine in Gaza. There is an unfolding genocide."

Israel is the historic homeland of the Jewish people and is central to the Jewish faith.

Just because Jewish people were successively exiled to other countries does not mean that is not their original homeland.

As they share a common ancestor, Jewish people and Palestinians are genetically linked.

It is a tragedy that they fight over this historic homeland.

Yes, they are genetically linked, but Palestinian Arabs are closer genetically to the ancient skeletons retrieved from the area.

The territory now known as Israel has been owned by many different tribes throughout history. All of them, if they were so disposed, could claim it as their own. I'm perfectly well aware of the centrality to the Jewish faith, but their claim isn't that much stronger than anybody else's.

Nevertheless, I do support the right of the state of Israel to exist. Balfour and others should probably never have made a promise which he had no intention of fulfilling, but we are where we are now and I'm glad that Jewish people have a homeland. That doesn't give them the right to grab land which isn't theirs.

Honestly Anniebach I take my hat off to you and anyone else who comments with some truth, as I can hardly be bothered anymore.

The group of writings known to Christians as the Old Testament is the history of the nation as written down ( from oral tradition) by Jewish scholars over a long period, as everyone knows.
There are endless accounts of fighting neighbours wherever they settled - sometimes they won , sometimes they lost, but peaceful co - existence had eluded the area for....well ever, really.

look at this! good for them!

They are Jewish rabbis in New York.

I think the middle east will always be a hotbed of discontent. Whether people feel that the land belongs to the Jews or not Israel is surrounded by hostile countries.
There will be more battles to come after Gaza for Israel.

Europe was hostile to Jews too

Some of us are having a discussion. Anyone who feels it's not to their liking isn't being forced to join in. No need to waste your own time.

Never mind Annie. If you don't engage in this thread, you'll have some extra time to read a good book about the history of the Middle East. Make sure you get a good one by a respected historian and not one written by a partisan propagandist.

Oh my, such a diversion/distraction/deflection from the sad and serious spectacle of the 'only democracy in the Middle East' deliberately causing children to starve.
But, if you are wanting a 2000 year genetic re-set, so that Jewish people may have their Promised Land, then you must also consider that everyone of European heritage should de-migrate from all of the Americas, from South Africa, from Australia and New Zealand, so that the Tribes who lived there at that time could also reclaim their ancestral land.

Maremia Tue 19-Aug-25 15:49:09

Thanks choughdancer, still catching up with this thread. That's a very interesting letter.

Israel to respond by Friday, over Gaza truce plan accepted by Hamas.
Meanwhile, how many more children?

AGAA4 Tue 19-Aug-25 15:58:56

Also Maremia there is a part of Wales that the English insist is theirs
Should those who have settled there over hundreds of years be forced out for those who feel they are the original people.
Or maybe they could say that part of Wales should be given back as God has said so.

The English have no need to be original people, they just move in ask Scotland and Ireland

AGAA4 Tue 19-Aug-25 16:51:20

Getting back to the tragedy that is Gaza I have little faith in Netanyahu agreeing to the peace terms.
Hamas has said they will give back half the hostages at first but Netanyahu wants them all in one go.

I don't really believe he wants peace. Ben-Gvir and Smotrich have told him if he stops the war they will remove him from government.

Anniebach Tue 19-Aug-25 17:05:51

Qatar said it was "almost identical" to a US proposal for a 60-day truce, during which around half of 50 hostages held in Gaza - 20 of whom are believed to be alive - would be handed over and the two sides would negotiate a lasting ceasefire and the return of the rest.
