“Migrants are more important than residents" A statement that the Labour party will live to regret?

I think so.
It was their appeal statement in Court. To overturn the previous decision about housing migrants in that hotel in Epping it was their salvo.

Well I think it’s just put a nail in their coffin.

What do you think?

Well, if you are not concerned about thousands of unidentified illegal migrants flooding into this country then you should be.
The most serious aspect is, Who is going to pay for it?

Don't think once these people are processed, (speedily so even less is known about them), and able to earn they will boost the economy.
Their small wages will be split between paying off the gang masters who brought them here and will employ them, and keeping their family in their home countries.

It was the Conservative party that started housing migrants in hotels. Labour have said they will stop doing so but it can’t happen overnight. Yet another click bait heading that gransnet are happy to allow.

Labour pledged that they would close the migrant hotels alright. Now they’ve insisted this hotel is kept open. Brilliant! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

'In court they said the right of illegal migrants to free hotels is more important than the rights of the British people.

Said lawyers used by the Government.

Alledgedly.

They didn’t say they would close them with immediate effect though. So I don’t quite see what point you’re trying to make.

The country is not ‘being flooded’, despite what the media, Tories and Reform would have you believe.

Those seeking asylum via ‘irregular’ routes (because there are no ‘regular’ routes) make up a tiny minority of the immigrants in this, upon whom we depend.

Thank God for the Human Rights lawyers who tried to maintain the dignity of this country by supporting those fleeing war and oppression. We used to be a country that offered sanctuary to those in need.

I realise my view is unpopular on GN - I’m fine with that.

I’m with you LizzieD.

Casdon why let facts get in the way of a good immigration bashing thread.

Is this what we want our country to become?

It's not what is being reported - only what a handful of people are claiming.

Who said people aren't concerned?

The trouble is that some people seem to think there are easy solutions.

They actually said it.
“Keir Starmer's Labour government thinks the rights of illegal immigrants are more important than the rights of local people”.

Who are ‘they’? Can you give a proper link please?

Allsorts Sat 30-Aug-25 07:19:35

All this arguing about who started it, its where we are that matters.
I expected no less from Starmer, he is a lawyer, residents don't matter. If the words were recorded in court accurately how can you argue.

The DM quoted those exact words.

But that is not going to be "proof" is it?!

You are at least the 3rd poster on GN to seem to argue things one way, yet are actually concerned it seems.

I dont get that way of doing things.
Do you argue against yourself?

In your opinion!

There are many who dread the thought.

Maybe you have difficulty understanding that some things aren't always black or white.

No, it isn't. Nobody in court said the actual words. Third parties, including the Daily Mail, have used the words to interpret the appeal judgment.

They weren't stated in court. I thought that was clear by now. This is how the truth is distorted.

The why not give "balanced" posts, reflecting or saying what you and others are actually| thinking?

Doodledog Sat 30-Aug-25 07:47:53

I think we can prove that the Mail said that the judgement prioritised the rights of asylum over the rights of residents.

The day that anyone believes that a Mail headline (or a headline in any newspaper) is proof that this is actually the case is very worrying. It is a biased interpretation of what happened, not a quote from anyone the government.

Doodledog Sat 30-Aug-25 07:48:57

‘The fact that’, not ‘the day that’ 🙄
