Well to be fair it's the mantra of any incoming government and they keep it going for as long as they can get away with it before the general consensus turns on them with "enough! Change the record"

The government's focus should be on what they are going to do and not what the previous governments did.

This government also had 14 years in opposition to formulate plans when they came to power, which they obviously failed to do. Other than scrapping Rwanda, cancelling the WFA and 'smash the gangs', they didn't seem to have any positive ideas

How do they make their wealth, sundowngirl. Do they have a printing press in their garages, or a magic money tree in the garden?

In truth, they are wealth takers, sucking up as much of the country's money as they possibly can and paying far less tax on it than do ordinary working people.

And they're not leaving the country in droves, they're leaving at the usual rate seen over the years. We don't miss them because they contribute very little to the economy when they're here.

Why does everyone look at the negatives and never recognise that positive actions this Government have taken? People are cross because by year one ofLabour’s term nothing changed. Change and progress take time, long term planning is what is needed.

There is just one pot if money and no magic money tree other than borrowing which is too costly. Yes we have lost WFP but many of those who complain bitterly were not in the lowest income bands and did not really need it, it was just a nice bonus., it always was a very badly targeted benefit.
Putting up N I contributions and the minimum wage has been hurtful but so was living on a very low wage and there not being enough money to fund state pensions.

What have we gained? A reduction in NHS waiting lists; more free pre school care hours; bringing down interest rates so more affordable housing. Also employing many more to address immigration processing backlogs and returning illegal economic entrants more quickly and in greater numbers.

Re immigration. If you were fleeing a country where there was famine, water shortage and war as in Sudan, would you not send your strongest family members to try and flee and take the arduous journey? They are not just coming here, other European countries have many more arrivals. Why do they want to come here? It is not for benefits it is because in many cases this country invaded them in the past and they now speak English and have a history with us.

I spent some time in Bristol talking to immigrants housed in the hotel I was staying. It is not a life of luxury believe me, they are cramped together, food they find very unpalatable at a pittance of money a week for toiletries etc and are quite bored to death.

Do not believe what the press or social media say they just want to be sensational so you buy the paper or click on an item so they make money.

Sorry for the long piece but sometimes my blood just boils st the inaccuracies I read on here.

But everyone, and the government, pushing the notion that there is a finite amount of money when it untrue is so frustrating.

Apparently the new leader of the Green Party is quite clued up on how money and a national economy actually works. I’ll be interested to see what impact he has.

They always do.

Every time we get a new government, because people are fed up with the existing government, they come on a wave of promises, then blame the previous government for whatever they can’t do.

This goes on till the GBP are fed up with the unfulfilled promises or other things they aren’t happy with.

Then we have a new government, that comes in on a wave of promises, then blames the previous government for what they can’t do.

Sometimes we get a bit of extra excitement, like redecorating or freebies, but it’s still the same old, same old.

I'm fed up with it too Nurseundercover they've had a year to do something about the problems and have just about trashed the economy. I want to hear what they are doing to improve things instead.

Thank you everyone for your various points of view on the many aspects Britain is struggling with. Politicians have to stop using excuses when they don’t manage to improve things. They committed to and are getting paid to do a job, admittedly a difficult job. So it is only reasonable that the British people call the government out when they a failing in their tasks.
Take the illegal immigration problems; many who arrived on boats have travelled through numerous safe countries. Some have been denied asylum in various safe countries, so instead of them being sent back they think Britain is easier.
They have paid vast sums of money crossing eastern & Western Europe, finally paying more to get on the boat from France, knowing if they wave enroute they will be picked up and assisted to land. Setting that aside, do we enable our British homeless people to live in hotels, provide them with food, clothing, a phone. I don’t think so, they depend on people donating to charities, that’s when they can access this. Our homeless live in danger, are hungry and cold. Many of whom are homeless through no fault of their own.
Surely it’s not too much to expect that British people, many of whom have paid into the system all their working lives, have priority. We have to look after our own first. With the best will in the world we cannot solve every other countries problems.
