At a conference as ill attended as Trump's Rallies, yes, that is what she sang. And these are the people who tell is it's "just patriotism" when their followers start another riot or treat our flag with about as much deference as an empty beer can kicked down the street.

We know the Reform Conference is just designed to distract, after all they dont have any policies but they are the only "party" whose Conference has a pyrotechnics budgetconfused -but it was awful on so many levels.

Surely it was "God Save the King" or was it sung for Elton John.

Bodach Sun 07-Sept-25 23:11:55

My goodness me, PoliticsNerd. They really have got to you, haven't they?

PoliticsNerd Sun 07-Sept-25 23:14:38

No, it was this weekends Reform Conference and she actually sang "God Save the Queen".

She also entertained at the beginning with "Insomniac"

I appear to be reading and hearing "King" where you're reading and hearing "Queen". Are we married?

Why shouldn’t she sing that ? Just wondering.

Because the Queen is dead?

It takes years for news to reach Australia…

Maybe it was the punk version?

Magenta8 Mon 08-Sept-25 08:58:58

I can confirm, deffo King. Deffo not Sex Pistols version.

mrsmeldrew Mon 08-Sept-25 08:59:24

She is embarrassing and clearly has no self-awareness ...

vintage1950 Mon 08-Sept-25 09:14:16

I heard 'King' but there was one lapse into 'Queen'.

Spinnaker Mon 08-Sept-25 09:19:00

Made a complete hash of it by being out of sync with the music - I was too busy concentrating on that rather than the words 😂😂

J52 Mon 08-Sept-25 09:19:23

I found it too indistinct to be really sure, but her body language indicates that she made a faux pas. Did the woman in black at the end not know the words?

Bodach Mon 08-Sept-25 09:20:08

No matter how often I start off singing "...glorious King", I still find myself slipping back a few lines later into "Send her victorious...". I blame some 75 years of vocal chord muscle memory.

westendgirl Mon 08-Sept-25 09:26:28

I think she started off singing Queen and then realised that she had made a dreadful mistake. I noticed some of the platform party looking at her .Should know better.

Magenta8 Mon 08-Sept-25 09:27:04

Absolutely Bodach.

I was but a tiny child when QEII came to the throne so, like so many other GNs, I grew up singing "Send her victorious."

I also have trouble remembering that when people refer to 'The Queen' they mean Camilla.

Same here. Not that I often find myself singing the National Anthem these days. 😂

3 years to the day since we lost the Queen I still find myself slipping back into God save the Queen and send her victorious.

Allsorts Mon 08-Sept-25 09:41:27

She sang Queen once, obviously a mistake which she didn’t repeat, wish I had her singing voice. I wouldn't have had the nerve.. At least she was patriotic and didn't sing Red Flag, I still cannot think of Charles as King or Camilla as Queen Consort, I just remember how big her crown was to the one Charles wore at the Coronation.

Thank you for the out loud laugh you caused OldFrill. Hopefully you saw the link.

It about being prepared really. If others, including myself, can slip back easily, she should have prepared. It's a bit of an insult to your audience (and the King) not to.

Of course ... this may be her prepared version sad

Rosie51 Mon 08-Sept-25 12:00:09

Well she definitely sang 'send him victorious'. I'm absolutely not a Reform supporter, but if this is the most pressing criticism of them...... and I found if I listened for 'King' that's what I heard, but if I preferred to think she sang 'Queen' that's what I could hear.
No amount of preparation can always override the brain's ability to slip into auto after so many years singing one version of a song.

Oh, me too Magenta

When there's a news item about the Queen visiting somewhere, I have to think twice!!
Force of habit.

But singing in front if an audience? Really must try harder, Andrea!
